Found this hole in the wall on Unilocal. We were looking for something quick and easy around our place. We ended up going to this place and now it is our new spot. Atmosphere isn’t very good, but the food is bomb. They make family style chinese cuisine and massive portions. I would totally check this place out!

Hole in the wall, no thrills or frills, fast service, ridiculously cheap prices, friendly service with a guan smile and seems like a lot of locals/regulars. It’s a great place within walking distance for Sunday morning dim sum and pork porridge. Feed 2 people for under 10 bucks, what else do you want.

This restaurant is located in such a random neighborhood. It’s on a very quiet residential street with very few other businesses around it. Unless you live in the area, it’s probably going to be somewhat out of your way. It’s definitely a hole in the wall but there is some cheap, decent Chinese food to be had here. My boyfriend and I got the chicken curry and the Yangzhou fried rice. Both platters gave you plenty of food for less than $ 10 per person. I thought both plates were decent. My boyfriend really liked the food. I thought some of the chicken pieces could have been curated better(some inedible pieces) but whatever, it’s cheap food. The lady who ran the shop was also pretty cordial. It seemed like a lot of regulars stopped by to eat there. I think the people who run the shop are Cantonese.

I personally have been coming here ever since I could remember. It’s a love place by my family and we honestly love getting out Saturday breakfast from here. Highly recommend the soups and pastries.

Holes on the wall, mom and pops kinda place. But let me tell you, their Chinese food is soooo good! If I wake up early enough, I usually would come and get some shrimp rolls and bbq pork rolls if they didn’t sell out yet.(You’d be surprised at how fast their rolls gets sold). For dinner, I would always get the salt and pepper ribs over rice or the scrambled eggs with beef over rice. Love love this place!

This is a solid restaurant for Cantonese food. So far I’ve tried the chicken with broccoli, beef brisket with vegetables, chicken with mustard greens, and the beef with scrambled eggs. It’s all nicely done with good basic flavor. None of it is overpowering so I could eat it for dinner regularly and not grow tired of it. I think it would even be a healthy diet because it would include perfectly done vegetables where the nutrients haven’t been overcooked out of it.

This place is the gem of the neighborhood. Expect a line during breakfast, lunch, and after work hours. Most popular for the Asian crowd is the steamed catfish. On weekends, the Chinese donut(fried bread stick) sells out fast. About average on the steamed rice rolls with beef, pork, shrimp, or just about anything you ask for. You can judge the place by the crowd it gathers. At meal time this is the only place that is crowded in the area.

A bunch of my co-workers decided to order from this place. We did a mass order of broccoli beef and I was amazed at how delicious my food was. The rice was cooked to perfection, not too hard or soft. They didn’t use cheap rice like some places do. The beef was nicely sliced and the flavoring was very good, not too salty or bland. They didn’t use cornstarch to thicken their sauce which I don’t like. The broccoli was just right, cut proportionally & not overcooked! I like a nice crunch in my broccoli but not raw. The portions are big with lots of beef and broccoli. We will definitely be ordering from this place again. I was told it’s a bakery and they don’t have a menu. You just tell them what you want and they’ll make it for you. I gave them 5 stars because I’ve eaten a lot of broccoli beef over rice and this was very good. About 10 of us ordered and everyone LOVED it!

The place deserve this from me. I been here since it first open many years ago when I was still a kid. I know the owners. Mom and pop and the old grandpa. So why is it bad? 1) the place is dirty and sticky! 2) they overlooked my beef chow fun 3) they don’t clean their wok correctly. 4) one time there was a metal template in my food. I told them about it and they said you get to eat for free. 5) they jacked up the price once it got popular 6) a lot of construction workers that smell funny. I don’t need them to wear a tie but I also don’t need them smell like a homeless. I grew out of this place.

G & L Bakery & Restaurant has been around for probably over 10 years now. It is one of the places to go to for breakfast, lunch or a quick snack when you are out here in the Visitacion Valley area. I remember coming here with my parents and sister to get pork and preserved egg porridge for breakfast. I normally order my food to go and for a little disclosure, I’ve came here a few times with my dad to order food to go for dinner. A quick fix for less than $ 10, we can’t go wrong and this is something that has scored bonus points and a 5-star rating for this restaurant! I’m craving for a bowl of pork and preserved egg porridge with some rice noodle rolls as I write this review! The next time in this area craving for a bowl of porridge and some rice rolls, I’m definitely making a pit stop here at G & L Bakery & Restaurant! I’ll provide an edited/updated review once I try some of the other menu items here. Parking: Street Parking Quick Tip: CASHONLY 04/09/2014&04/10/2014: I’ve tried: — Egg and Beef with Green Scallion over Rice — Mongolian Beef over Rice Both items are delicious! The tables tend to be sticky, but they can do a better job on cleaning these tables. It is possible for them to do a much better job with cleaning the entire restaurant facility.

It’s a hole in the wall, no doubt about it. But I’ve been coming here since they opened up in the ’90’s. They know me by name and judging by who I’m with, and what time of the day I walk in, can guess my order. It’s really inexpensive and they give you huge portions. If you eat it, they give you free soup. What to get: –kung pao beef/chicken. It is served with onions, bell peppers and jalapenos. Sometimes they add in another vegetable. The meat is really juicy and tender. It also goes really good with the vita lemon tea. –stir fry beef fat rice noodles. Super delicious. They know how to make this perfect –ox tail. Really good for the price –jook. I like to get jook from this place for when I am sick –beef’shrimp/bbq pork wrapped in race noodles are good for breakfast. Don’t bother with this place’s dim sum. No matter your expectations, it will disappoint you. And cash only

I’ve been eating here ever since I was about 12 years old, which is about 10 years NOW!!! And I always order the same thing, Salt & Pepper Filet over Rice which is by far my all time favorite! The crispy, yet tender filet and the heat from the jalapeños that the salt balances out never gets old. The portions that they give you is ridicolous… when you order it TO-GO, you’ll probably have some left-over if you can control yourself! Is just one of those restaurants that won’t break your wallet, but will break your diet(: FYI: Cash ONLY!!!

Cheap price, cheap eats! Hole in the wall(SIRENSIRENSIREN) I have been going to this place ever since it has opened more than 5 years already. Everything on the menu is really good. I usually order the typical fried rice, noodles or a la carte for dinner. This place does decent breakfast like congee, fresh rice noodle wrapped in(shrimp, BBQPORK, cilantro), Chinese bakery style: pork bun, pineapple bun, etc… Lunch time, this place gets busy as the typical Chinese construction workers eat lunch together or bring their hard working amigos to lunch and its cheap. When you dine in, they usually have a soup of the day and it’s a freebie. I would recommend — Beef Chow fun — Salt & Pepper pork chops — pan fried noodles Overall, hole in the wall restaurant and cheap and decent portions. –Parking– Parking can be hard as they remolded the street of Leland Ave and have cut down on the parking spaces. This place is a bit ghetto and it may look a bit scary if you have never come down to this part of town. *cash only* cash only*

Came here to get Dim Sum. Had to wait twenty minutes for them to «heat it up». Counted three small shrimp in the shrimp dumplings and the poker and beef was awful quality. Also, the dim sum was a gelatinous mush that was pretty gross.

The definition of a hole in the wall. My coworker brought in some food from here, and I just had to know where it was from. Holy guacamole, its 1.5 miles from my house! The roomies and I were craving something yummy, so we took a short drive to this spot. We all ordered the ox-tails over rice. So bomb! The only quirk we had was there wasn’t enough meat, but the overall flavor made up for that. It came complete with potatoes and other vegetables. A huge plus in my book is a poop load of steamed rice. I’m all about that shi*!! I found a new fave take out spot close to home. Cheerio!

I found it! My hole-in-the-wall authentic Hong Kongese-style café in Visitacion Valley. Don’t be put off by the raucous ambiance or lack of English signage upon entering. Instead, enjoy one of their house specialties; like their catfish– which runs out by around 12:30(so get there early.) Or try the house ox tail rice plate(with tofu and cabbage.) And every table seemed to have the house soup: a giant bowl filled with meat, ginseng root and broth. The final thrill of eating here is that, like in China, you can spit(or politely place) your bones on the table. This is common practice all throughout China at less expensive places, and as this authentic spot is an extension of the Chinese universe, the same rules apply.(And your gonna get some bones, so be ready.) G & L will not provide the most gourmet experience in life, but it makes up for this by taking you to another place(and you don’t even need to have a passport!) I left here happy and thrilled to find this gem– And I was happy I avoided the other empty Chinese buffets down the street. I suggest the same for you,
