This review/low-rating really hurts me to write. I have ordered delivery from Golden Kim Tar on multiple occasions and the food is very tasty and HUGE portions, with some of the least expensive prices for SF Chinese food. I love big portions because my life revolves around food. I’m sure at this point you’re wondering why I’m giving one star. It’s because I have always ended up incredibly nauseous later in the night after eating this food. It happens without fail, every time. Sometimes the nausea even wakes me up in the middle of the night after eating it. Maybe it’s an MSG reaction? The first couple of times I figured it was a coincidence(in denial and refusing to let go of my adoration for the massive portions) but it’s happened many times now and I have made the decision to never order from here again. My stomach isn’t delicate, and I haven’t gotten sick with any other Chinese place in SF. Getting super sick to my stomach AND seeing their disgracefully low health score on Unilocal makes me question what exactly Golden Kim Tar is doing to their food.

Terrible food. Chicken didn’t taste like chicken. Long, stringy Asian people hair was in 3 separate dishes. Crab Rangoon was missing the cream cheese. All the food tasted old. Will never eat here again.

I eat here almost everyday, fried rice is amazing and always made the same. The staff is very friendly and always remembers to put my sauces with my order. I love this place, I’ve tried the General tso’s chicken(which was amazing!) The BBQ pork(which is very yummy)

Ordered here with my team for work lunch. I ordered the Mongolian beef chow fun, and let me tell you, it was not fun at all! This large box of food only had 2.5 pieces of medium sized beef… 2.5!!! It also contained 2 slices of green bell pepper, and 5 sprouts. YES i counted. The rest was a bunch of cooked chow fun(super duper bland btw) stuck together. The whole meal was bland tbh. I think I had a few bites then pushed the rest away since i spent most of my time playing scavenger hunt for meat and veggies. We had delivery to our office and it was a huge order. This place couldn’t label what was what? or put our names on there? There’s a few of us with dietary restrictions and it was frustrating to figure out what was beef and what was pork. I think its safe to say, never ordering from here again.

Tasty American Chinese food! I’ve ordered delivery from here 3 times & it always arrives on time and hot. I’ve tried — hot and sour soup– alright — crab ragoons– ok — pork wontons– amazing! I always get it — Mongolian beef– delicious. Flavorful. Great portion — garlic fries– good but not worth the price — orange chicken– hella good. I will certainly order again when I want Chinese food

The best experience ever especially on Christmas!!! Food was still hot when it arrives to our hotel room and only took about 15 – 20 minutes from when we ordered it. Considering how far we are from Larkin street that’s a really good time.

This was one of the worst experiences I have had with food delivery. First off, we ordered off Eat24; my co worker put in the order at 11am today, not only did we not receive the food until after 2pm; the driver was rude and argued with me through the phone on where the drop off was, and kept yelling that he was here and that I wasn’t when he was the one at the wrong place. After making several complaints through Eat24, not only were they dismissive, they pretty much ignored this whole situation. We had much better luck through Grubhub and Postmates. We waited for almost 3 hours for the food, where were you coming from? Sacramento? I thought the restaurant was located only a mile away from us? We received cold food, and got yelled at by the delivery man. Complaints were all dismissed… We’ll go elsewhere, thanks Briana.

Based on food delivery. I was craving for Chinese food and was browsing on Unilocal and found Golden Kim Tar. I ordered peking duck, chow mein, spring rolls, and they added a free salad. I was starving so everything to me was good! Ordered came on time based on EATS24 status. I haven’t had Chinese foods in a while so if I have another craving then I will definitely order at Golden Kim Tar. P.S thanks for the free salad :)

I got delivery — the food arrived hot, fresh, and it was all tasty. The hot and sour soup was nice and spicy. The General Tso chicken(requested sauce on the side) was nice and crispy because they added a bunch of dry fried noodles in the bottom to soak up the moisture. The crab rangoon was exactly what you’d expect from a crab rangoon(maybe a bit short on cream cheese, but that’s not a bad thing). The free salad that came with it was a bunch of lettuce, some grape tomatoes and a tub of thousand island — no complaints, but a bit out of place. Still, the delivery was quick, the food was hot — I can’t complain.

I got home from a long trip craving veggies and some simple chinese fare. Golden Kim Tar delivers quickly and have very good vegetarian options. Food is so expensive now, but their portions are quite decent and arrive hot and fresh. Worth a hike to the restaurant. Thanks Golden Kim Tar!

A great place for lunch in the Civic Center area. Prices are reasonable. Rice plates are served with a bowl of soup and a fortune cookie. Also comes with hot tea. Typical Chinese fare. Food is tasty. Restaurant can get very crowded during the lunch hour.

Ok, this place is straight up mediocre chinese food. But on the walk home from the Bart after hitting up the bar, it’s exactly what I needed. Their lo mein isn’t anything special. But it’s exactly what I wanted. Thick noodles & some veggies! The one dish that stole the spotlight for me was the eggplant tofu. The lady asked if I want it spicy & I told her yes. Chinese food is not usually spicy to me(even Szechuan), but they made this dish perfectly. The tofu was fried, but still soft. The eggplant wasn’t mushy or slimy! And it was perfectly seasoned. I will definitely be back to order this dish. The vegetable dumplings are ok. Also, I’ve been here a few times & it’s never crowded.

Golden Kim Tar seems like the go-to Chinese restaurant for tenderloin residents. I can see why! It’s cheap food with great flavor. I wasn’t really a fan of the salt and pepper spare ribs but the scrambled egg and beef over white rice has me coming back. I actually CRAVE this dish! It’s huge! Definitely two portions for me. The lady that runs the front of the restaurant on almost any given day is SO nice. She seems to be working solo every time I drop in so I can’t help but to cut her some slack. She takes phone orders, seats people, takes orders, buses tables, EVERYTHING. I feel bad that she’s doing everything on her own! Service is on fleek though, considering it’s a one man show in the front house. I saw a small roach roaming on the counter the first time I ate here. But if you can get past that(which I kind of can nowadays after traveling all over SE Asia), this place is bomb. Take it for what it is. Peep the environment. You can’t expect a fine dining experience. TLDR: Good budget Chinese food. Huge portions. Can be a little dirty. Pro tip: Wipe off utensils… just in case :)

Super fast service. pretty good food. Really weird plastic chopsticks. :/ I got walnut shrimp with steamed rice. The dish could’ve used more walnuts. The rice was a bit overcooked. Plenty of sitting and very pleasant waiter. I still prefer ken’s kitchen because the food is somewhat better there but I should probably try more than one dish before judging.

I ordered a delivery meal, and got very disappointed when I looked at the chicken wings and noticed how hairy they were. I almost had to take them to the barber. The crab ragoons were really chewy and poorly stuffed. The only thing that I could actually eat was the salad. I wonder if I can complain at eat24, because ordering from this place was a total waste of money and a disappointment. :-( Never ordering from here again.

Stopped by here for a quick dinner before a show at the Regency Ballroom(shout out to Watsky and Dumbfoundead!).The food is alright but the service is really good. We both ordered chow fun noodles – one beef and one veggie. Although the portion size was really generous, the noodles were a bit salty and lacking in ingredients. BUT the service was so good. Our waiter was attentive and checked on us a few times. When we asked for the food to go, he politely helped us package our meals and even gave us warm wet towels to wipe our hands. I didn’t expect this given that this is a casual neighborhood restaurant, but we were both pleasantly surprised. TLDR: Good place to grab a meal if you’re in the area, although admittedly, there are better Chinese food options in the city. However, the service is wonderful!

Too much«golden» and not enough, um… well, actual food. I really wanted to like this place as a friend had mentioned it a couple times and said how good the vegetarian options were. Sadly, I found that everything was quite over-fried and on the bland side. Though I love scallion pancakes, theirs were so fried and flaky that they fall apart in your hand as you ate them. For my main dish I ordered the meatless orange chicken and it was equally disappointing. The fake chicken was quite bland and there were no veggies with it! I’m giving them two stars simply because they do have fake meat/vegetarian options, but really there are plenty of places(at similar price points) that deliver a much better value.
