I cannot begin to say enough good things about Dermot. I originally met him when I was looking for someone to do the cabinets (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room) for our 1890’s Victorian. We were undertaking a large scale remodel/​restoration. He was extremely patient with changes and offered great ideas and suggestions. Fast forward 4 months and I contacted him again as our plans were finally done and were ready to get going. I asked him for some General Contractor referrals, which he gave me, along with himself. I had no idea he was a GC! After getting three bids we decided to go with Dermot.
From day one he stepped in and help us sort out some problems with our plans, driving up to the architect in Santa Rosa several times without hesitation. The remodel took approximately 9 months, start to finish. We left our home for 5 months and he worked tirelessly to get us back home as soon as possible (we were in the house during the last 4 months of the job). We have dealt with many contractors and projects over the years (never anything of this large scale) and never had anything gone as seamless as this. He came in on time and on budget, did many extra things without asking for money, and the quality of the work was superb. All of the subs (plumber, carpenter, electrician, floors, drywall, etc.) were great to work with as well. In summary, Dermot was a joy to work with and is a person of high integrity.
Lastly, we are thrilled with our Kraftmaid cabinets! They look beautiful, and the fit and finish is outstanding.

Goodlife kitchens has the best prices for Kraftmaid cabinets, but not just that, they also have great service. Dermot provided professional advice and helped us layout our kitchen exactly how we wanted. On top of that he was always around for questions and support. He even helped me install parts that my installers couldn’t, with no extra charge. After we finished the cabinet installation he recommended a great contractor for doing the backsplash. We’re happy we decided to go with him.

Not only did Dermot help us pick out the exact right cabinets for our new kitchen, but he helped us design the space, had the materials delivered in record time and handled all communications with the supplier. And almost two years later, we had a very minor flaw appear on one of the cabinet doors and he had a replacement ordered and handled within a day of our email. Personal service, very professional and sells great products that they stand behind.

I manage a guesthouse for seriously ill children and I chose Goodlife Kitchens to replace the kitchen cabinets in our 6 kitchens. Dermot really knows quality kitchen remodels and is great in sharing his wealth of knowedge and working with you throughout the process. He does things the right way and only the right way, and will not cut corners or sacrifice quality. Having his store, Goodlife Kitchens, close by is a huge plus. When you go there, you have his full attention and truly get the best kitchen for you and your home. That said, you don’t even have to go to the store, as Dermott is great about meeting at your home with all sorts of materials and samples. Dermot remodeled 2 full baths and a kitchen in Miraloma for us in 2012. We are very OCD and did a lot of research beforehand. We interviewed a wide range of contractors, designers, companies — everything from trendy design firms to Home Depot and Lowe’s. Dermot is your go-​to for kitchen cabinets, bath cabinets, and and kitchen remodel jobs. He’s very communicative, honest, gives you the bottom-​line price (and tells you it’s not the rock-​bottom price), and can throw in some ideas about design if you’re clueless or about to do something you will regret big-​time. He’s extremely patient (one of our email threads went over 100 messages), completed our project in the time frame he gave us, and was always cheerful about his work. He helped us on every aspect of the project: design, cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, electrical, demolition/​permits, etc. Several months later, he and his subcontractors have been out to fix/​follow up on any issues that came up rather than dumping us like I am sure others would have. It might be a bit cheaper to do this through Home Depot, but the hassle and headache won’t be worth it. Save money by going for the generic toilet paper, not the corporate contractor. We wholeheartedly recommend Dermot and Goodlife Kitchens.

About 9 years ago I bought kitchen cabinets at Goodlife Kitchens from Dermot Howard.
Not only I received an outstanding service and advice during purchasing process, but the quality of the kitchen cabinets was (and currently is) outstanding. The cabinets are looking now exactly as they were brand new after their delivery nine years ago.
Recently I noted that the screw on the one of my cabinets was bent (credit to my grandson who was using it as his playground gym),
I contacted Dermot and asked for an advice. Dermot reminded me that the cabinets carry a lifetime warranty and immediately ordered for me the entire new hardware set free of charge.

I started my cabinet search at lowes and home depot and after getting really bad customer service I began looking for other options (thinking I was going to have to pay more). I was shocked when the pricing I got was considerably lower than the huge sale that the big chains were offering. I saved over a hundred dollars per cabinet by going with Good Life Kitchens. Even better than the price was the customer service I received. Dermott knows his cabinets and does what he says hes going to do… a very rare thing in the construction industry. He is friendly, personable and very knowledgeable. The day after placing my order I got a delivery date from Kraftmaid and the turn around time was even less than what he had quoted me. I highly recommend Good Life Kitchens! I came from the East Bay because of the reviews and it was worth the drive.
The only down side is that there is not a lot of parking at the show room. So as with most of SF, so be prepared to walk a block or two (but at least its not metered parking).

I started working with Dermott at Goodlife Kitchens two years ago when we bought this place. After several false starts, we completed the project this year. Each time, Dermott was patient in taking us through all of the options, explaining the pros and cons thoughtfully. He sent us drawings and estimates, no fuss, no pressure. He’s a funny guy to boot, so it’s a pleasure to work with him. Dermott took care of all of the details. The carpentry and cabinets are perfect, exceeding even our wildest expectations. His tile guy was amazing, taking ordinary tile and making it into something truly special. The counters and floors are exceptional. The entire time, Dermott was great at letting us know what was happening. In the end, the prices were reasonable and we feel like we got a new kitchen for a steal. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Goodlife does it right. He is very budget friendly. How many times have you spoken to a salesperson and instead of pressuring you to buy, they tell you to go check out his competitiors? My dealings with him were honest, and he actually advised me against some cabinet features that others tried to sell me. When I took his advice and went to Home Depot for a quote and went back to him, I was surprised how much I was able to save. Never thought I’d get a local merchant able to beat the hated big box behemoth! What was even nicer was his attention to detail: I was on a budget and he knew it, and while my wife and I were deliberating over to glaze or not to glaze, he gave me a phone call telling me there was a promotion that was running and saved me even more money. I got a kitchen from this guy over 5 years ago and when I asked him recently about bumpers/​stoppers for my cabinets (I had lost them) he called into my house with a bag of them. Now my cabinets are soft close again and banging them has way less dramatic effect!
Tell me if you have a home depot/​lowes guy call in to your house and remember your kids name to boot.
As a Nopa Mama with kids in the local school it is nice to walk by his shop and kids always get a wave and a tickle.
Support your local biz, huge corporations or this guy? He is so cheery and the follow through is unique. Also waaay cheaper then the big guys which was my motivation to buy my kitchen through him in the first place. It still looks great (I am a foodie and hard on my K) but what I remember about his shop was he asked are you a baker or a cook? What do you cook? Still I think about the guidance I got and how my dream kitchen is v. productive cos he asked the right q.“s. I t would be silly not to get one of your quotes from him.
