Oh yeah. This is THE Place. Good, stiff drinks, friendly, but not intrusive environment. The price is right.

Nice little bar just off the busy Broadway/Columbus drag. Every other bar too noisy? Too crowded? Too pretentious? Don’t want to pay a cover? Grasslands is a cozy establishment that never seems to be too full or too loud but nonetheless has a pleasing vibe, good drinks, and a friendly bartender. A good place to just hang out. What more could you want?

A must while in the city. Bartenders know everybody by name and are extremely welcoming to outsiders. Great spot to just grab a quick drink or post up all night. 10⁄10 would come back.

I like this place but I’m having trouble describing why. The last two times I’ve been there it’s been me and the bartender. Yayyy! no waiting for the next drink. On the occasions when it’s been busy the clientele have been… unique. In a good way. A man who looked homeless but was a former music director for the sf symphony(or so he claimed) with an expansive knowledge of music history. Be careful talking to him as he’ll lecture the crap out of you with assistance from the jukebox. He spent 20 bucks on playing 11 different versions of bing crosb’ys white christmas. That went over about as well as you’d expect. Two retired longshoreman, two guys on what looked to be a date night, about half a dozen boisterous asian men who claimed to be brokers/traders/big money of some kind, a couple of chola’s by the door, and a small group of admirers of the bartender(both male and female). These all made up the late night clientele, which I call eclectic, interesting, and unexpected. The wall is pretty decent, as are the taps. Prices are good and you get a free bowl of snacks with your pint. I like that. The Jukebox has like 1200 songs ranging from k-pop to rockabilly and back which is both good and bad depending. When it’s just me I revel in the quiet relaxed pint. when it’s busy I like watching the people. I consider it to be the best dive bar I’ve found in the city so far.

It’s alright and dirt cheap! They have specials per day and that’s pretty rad. They also have a vast selection of alcohol and a divey feel. The bartender was nice, knowledgable, and efficient. I don’t know if I would make this a destination but I would come back if the opportunity presented itself.

The Owner is awesome, the bartenders are pretty great with cocktails. Shout out to C-oNe, the mixologist who got published for her cocktails. I’m usually here for the $ 5 Jameson Thursdays and Fernet Sundays.

At first glance you will think dive bar. And you would be correct. But it is very inviting. The regulars are very nice. C1 and Gaby are nice, friendly and very knowledgable. Gaby is an artist. You can spot her work on the ever changing sign outside. C1 is a mixologist. Not just a fancy title. Go in and ask her to make a specialty drink and watch her work her magic. This place is at the corner of north beach meets china town meets the fidi. So in other words this place has a diverse crowd but a fun and energectic crowd. This place has become a bit of a regular spot for me and its always a good time. They have a jukebox that has a huge variety of music. I have been there where one minute its 2 pac the next Michael Jackson, then some Sinatra and Bing Crosby. If you are lucky sometimes they have some old school video game(Street Fighter 2 anyone) available to play on one of the TVs. If you get hungry there is quicklys right next door, busters a couple blocks up and pizza places galore. If you find yourself in the area stop by and take a look. Probably will be the first of many trips here.

Wow. Came here for the first time with a few friends, I ordered an IPA my friend ordered a cocktail and it was amazing! He had asked for something strong and sweet and usually bartenders automatically hop to a long island or something boring like that, but nope, not here! What she had concocted was a grape soda tasting cocktail with a kick. We had been drinking before also, but, wow. That drink ended the night for my fellow binge drinker. I enjoyed the ambience of the bar, it matches its name quite well. Also, they have great daily specials along with what I thought was a little funny, goldfish as snacks. I would give it 5 stars if the bathrooms were a little bigger, though they were very clean for a bar.

$ 5 for daily specials!!! Each day is a different alcohol special(yay for Jameson Thursdays!!!) This is a clean dive bar with bar and high table seatings. They also have a jukebox with a great music selection with a small price to pay. Also… two old school arcade machine if you’re feeling like gaming! Nice and cool bartenders. Don’t forget to ask for the chex mix/goldfish snacks!

The bar where«good friends and girls meet» has transformed itself post-fire into perhaps one of the classiest stops along your chinatown pub crawl. Lots to like about this upscale dive — friendly service, happy hours, daily drink specials, and Street Fighter arcade machine. But my favorite aspect of the bar is the variety of beers on tap which set it apart from Chinatown bars. Usual suspects like Asahi and Blue Moon to more unique brews like 21st Amendment’s Brew Free Or Die and Black In Black IPAs. As an added bonus, you can grab some deep fried grub from Quickly next door and bring it into the bar — popcorn chicken and calamari rings make perfect companion to brewskis. The sum of all changes made to Grasslands guarantee a return visit. I sure did.

I don’t care how cheap your drinks are, the service here still sucks! Went here for a friend’s Birthday Pub Crawl thing this past Saturday, and I was so put off by the service. Order your drinks and expect the bartender to rudely tell you that you may not sit, nor stand anywhere near the bar. I get that you’re trying to cater to customers spending big money, but you don’t need to be rude. Seriously. Why did I even bother to tip you? Basically, if you want to sit at the bar, you’re going to have to buy a bottle of Hennessy. Mark my words, I’m never coming back to this bar ever again.

Came here with my coworkers to try a new HH place. They actually have HH specials. I’m on that Vodka Soda diet and it happened to be grey goose special for $ 6. Every day is a different liquor. The place looks really ghetto outside, but very nice inside. They also have clean bathrooms, but who knows how filthy it can get by 10pm. They have gold fishes as bar snacks and the bartender refills it quickly. Recommend!

A classy, remodeled dive bar that’s like a cool mini-lounge w/leather seating, music, and video games! Oh, and great prices on their drink specials! Nice! Also, Happy Hour Beer is only $ 3!

One of the coolest dive bars that turned into a mini lounge. Great establishment with a cherry bartender, nice bathroom, great drink specials, a video game with multiple games, and an online jukebox. Chinatown’s dive bars are slowly evolving to the times. You can have that more upscale feel to a dive bar but still get those dive bar prices. This is definitely one of the bars you need to visit besides the usual suspects of Mr Bings, Li Po, and Bow Bow’s.

Row row($ 8): Tastes like orange sorbet soda with alcohol! I wish I wasn’t so full from drinking at the previous bar. Service was awesome! They have a digital jukebox, dollar digital games around the bar, TV, and a ATM machine! I think the downside was it was too bright inside for a bar.

We stopped here on a cold walk across SF. The girl behind the bar made us coffee & some had drinks. The tables were comfortable… but the girl was watching some Kardashian show, so we had to too… There was a video Trivia game that we played… you could pick Strip trivia… between 5 educated adults, we couldn’t get most of the questions— not much stripping happened with the 8 quarters we had… oh well clean bar, clean bathroom and decent prices. Oh and it is a few doors down from our favorite Chinese place(House of Nanking)!!!

12.9.11: This place is awesome. Most drinks was about $ 5 or $ 6 and they have a check-in offer that is $ 1.50 off any drink. What more would you ask for? Well how about the ability to play street fighter? Yes I said it. And its free, they provide the arcade type controller which is hooked up to their flat screen tv. It’s a very chill divey spot, this is not a place to go to for dancing or for looking for hot chicks. It’s simply a place to drink and maybe catch up with old friends. There was no music for awhile, so just ask the bartender to put something on… Overall love the cheap drinks.

For all you Unilocalers, check-in here and you will get a $ 1.50 off any one drink! It’s a small bar with maybe 4 or 5 belly bar tables and a row of booth seating. There aren’t a lot of options in terms of beer either, but it’s a pretty solid joint if you’re not expecting much. A lot of professionals tend to come here after work since it’s located near the FiDi. ehh, not really. it’s more like the outskirts of Chinatown to me. The service is pretty good, prices are cheap, and it’s clean! Yay! There’s a $ 15 credit card minimum. I hate that.
