I’ve been going to Debra since 2002– Fourteen years! She’s guided me through short bobs, tints, long waves, highlights — and every time my hair looks fabulous. One could say that’s she is a truly gifted stylist! I won’t let anyone else touch my hair. Here’s to fourteen more years and then some! Thanks, Debra!

I have found my new salon! Neil and Susanare great!!! My first time there, I went to Susan to have just a trim done. Today I went in today to get a full haircut. Neil did an amazing job.
And it’s only a block from my home!

I found Debra in 2006, when I was still new to the Bay Area and looking to be rescued from a bad cut that another, more expensive salon had provided. I still remember how kind she was at our first meeting: She listened to what I wanted, checked in to make sure she understood, and then executed — all with a kind, gentle, and friendly demeanor. Since then, Debra has earned my undying loyalty. No one else touches my hair — and that is quite an endorsement, because now I travel about three hours round trip from Sacramento in order to make her appointments. This is a privilege and a pleasure. I highly recommend G-​Squared for anyone who’s looking for excellent hair care without pretense or attitude. The entire staff is professional, talented, and approachable. See Debra, in particular, for color, which is her specialty.

Awesome! I have very tough hair to cut and it is very thick. Got it perfect the first time. Not cheap ($ 60 for a mens) but I suppose you get what you pay for.

I’ve been coming here for a number of years to get my haircut done by Susan. Conversation is always friendly with a good amount of humor. The haircut itself is always done well, I feel so much lighter walking out of there.

Time for an update. For whatever reason, I started jumping around to other stylists. Call me fickle, a ho, woman in search of the fountain of youth, but I strayed. Anyway, I was getting married on a Friday and made an appointment for a cut and color the day before. When I got there Debra remembered me and didn’t make me feel bad for being away. When she heard I was getting married the next day we had to laugh and say «no pressure» but don’t f%^& this up! As a 60 year old bride I didn’t need anything fancy– something classy and sexy — and I got exactly what I wanted. The color was great and she put in a gloss that made my hair shine like a disco ball. The cut was fabulous. I didn’t need any styling tools like I usually do for volume and 2 weeks later styling is still easy. I can’t say I won’t stray again because it’s in my nature, but for the big moments and when I have to look good, she is my go-​to lady.

Just had an amazing haircut from Sue and the conversation was real baseball! This is a great place, great location and ALL the people are real and friendly. You may not believe it but this is San Francisco hair style cut or anything. Don’t even think about anywhere else!

I would absolutely recommend Cecelia for children’s hair cuts! She was great at giving my son a trim and it always grows out so great. She was easy to book with and would also work around nap schedules. Thanks Cecelia!

I went to get a new hair color and I must say, the kind of service they offer is quite impressive. Since I did not take any prior appointment, I thought I’ll have to wait for a long time before I get seated, but to my surprise the staff was able to accomodate me in just 5 minutes. The told them how I would like to get a new look and they exactly knew that should be done. I was quite impressed with the lowlights, and I’m sure they’ll keep on serving in the same manner. Also, the place looks quite clean and hygeninc for that matter.

I took a new route to work one day and just happened to pass by this salon. It is only a block from my work and I’ve been overlooking it this whole time. It is right next to the Chevron station on busy 6^th Street. You can easily miss it. I was in DESPARATE need of a haircut and really wanted to change my look. I thought there has to be a reason that I ran into this place. I looked at the reviews and was pleasantly surprised to see the positive feedback. I called and left a message for an appointment. My call was returned right away and I made my appointment for the next week with Susan.
Let me just say that Susan is not only amazing at what she does, she is a wonderful person inside and out. I think I could of talked to her for hours! It’s rare to find a stylist that almost feels like a friend in the first meeting. Susan listened to my hair needs and gave me a great cut w bangs and color. I couldn’t be be happier with the result. Not to mention that when I walked out someone yelled, «Cuitie on the loose! Yaoooooow!!!». That really made my day (even if it was a bum:) Susan did you pay him? Hahaha. Thank you Susan! I will be back.

Cecilia is amazing! She has been doing my hair for the last 2 years and I won’t trust anyone else but her. Last year I wanted to cut my hair really short but didn’t know how or what I wanted and I told her to do whatever she thought would look good and she ended up doing an awesome A Line cut on me which I loved and got plenty of compliments on! I started to color my hair red and again, I will not trust anyone but her! She always gets the color and cut down perfectly.
If you want someone who is experienced but also up on current styles or you just want something different, I would definitely recommend Cecilia. You will not regret it :)

First of all, Neil is a genius. He is incredible with cut and color. I have been going to him for 12 years. I live in Marin and I still go to him because he is amazing! I also love G Squared because it is a RELAXING environment and everyone is really nice. I absolutely love it. It feels like home and my hair looks awesome!

with a beautiful eye and technique, highly recommended for any transform ation. He listens very casually and the salon is unpretentious. Will make sure it’s very natural and long lasting if you desire.

Susan is a true master when it comes to long hair! I have long, almost to my lower back, highlighted blond hair, and she does an amazing job with it every time I see her. I strayed from her one time… never again! Her skills are worth every minute of my 2hr (one way) drive to see her. The blond highlights she gives me always look soft, pretty and natural… plus, she’s one of the few stylists who can get them really close to the scalp. I have very unforgiving hair when it comes to cuts… every mistake shows. Susan gives me long layers that always work great no matter how I style my hair. She gives me sexy hair, and what woman doesn’t want sexy hair?! Not to mention, she’s a miracle worker with combing out wet knots, never painful, never pulls it, and makes it look smooth and healthy even after blowdrying and blondifying it!
The salon is modern & comfortable, but parking can be a bitch after 3p. There are a few dicey characters outside and some homeless people that wander past every so often. It’s not too bad though.

Neil is a terrific stylist. He cuts and colors amazingly well. He is so kind and listens very carefully to your vision, asking clarifying questions and summarizing so that he gets a good idea of what you want. I don’t think that man has a mean bone in his body! So kind!
I go to him for highlights on occasion (otherwise I try to do them on my own). I put in my own hair extensions and he consults me about them, checks them for me, and cuts them to look beautiful.
Neil gives a quality service! If you’re nervous about trying someone new, he’s a great stylist to go to. He’ll definitely make you feel at ease and help you achieve the look you’re going for.

Patrick is amazing. Transforming my hair from dry, accidental ombré with a decidedly scary root situation into a beautiful, natural, conditioned brunette color with perfectly cut waves was no mean feat. Now with only the slightest amount of blow drying I have beautiful, seemingly deliberate curls, and I love my color and the way my hair flatters my face.
I’ve had so much less quality for so much more money, and I’ve put off recommending Patrick for some time just because of how amazing he is –I’d normally like to keep the secret! He’s also a dear to talk with about San Francisco and more. Recommend G-​Squared highly, have sent over friends with even more-​in-​need-​of-​TLC hair predicaments, and they’ve come back beaming just as much as I have.

Colorist extraordinaire, Patrick, is officially a part of my beauty team! Not only does he do great color, but he’s also quite entertaining. You leave looking fabulous and full of knowledge.
I may be finding excuses to come sit in his chair more often!

I heart Debra! She is the only stylist that has ever gotten me compliments on my hair.
I’ve asked her to change up my look a few times, and each time she makes me look fabulous. Once I asked her to make me honey blonde because my boyfriend wanted it (but I didn’t). She gave me some carefully constructed feedback about what would look best with my skin tone, and face shape, and we decided on a mid-​way compromise that gave my hair a light golden tone without washing out my complexion. Most stylists would have just given me exactly what I asked for and I probably would have ended up being unhappy. After all, I’m not the expert. So I appreciate that Debra can be my stylist as well as my hairdresser.
She is the only stylist who has ever layered my hair the way I like it, and given me the perfect soft sideswept bangs that complement my face shape. Everything she does is carefully thought out and done with careful consideration to your personal style, face shape, skin tone, height, and overall look. That is why she is a true STYLIST, not a hairdresser.
I also love that they see me right on time, or at least within 5 or 10 minutes of my appointment time. And once your appointment begins, your stylist is dedicated exclusively to you. I used to think it was normal to spend 4 hours at the salon! I also thought it was normal for my hardresser to let hair dye sit on my head for an hour while I sat under the heat lamps. I was SO wrong! When I told Deb about my previous experiences, she gave me this look like «Oh honey, who have you been letting touch your hair?!» At G-​Squared, my entire appointment last an hour — this includes the cut, color, wash and blow dry. The dye is only in for 15 minutes, NOT an hour. Fast, simple, and so much healthier for my hair. I feel like I’ve been living in a fog and they’ve made me see the light!
And not only is Deb super talented, she is extremely sweet. I brought my younger sister in with me one time and Deb made sure she was happy and entertained. She brought her water and magazines and checked in with her from time to time. She is totally awesome.
I haven’t been back to G-​Squared in a while. To be totally honest, I’ve been out being my typical stubborn self, trying to find a less expensive and equally fabulous haricut. But just like in the past, I’ll be back with my tail in between my legs because I still can’t find anyone who knows hair better than Deb. I’ve learned the hard way that when it comes to beauty, you get what you pay for. Never again will I subject my hair to second rate, because nobody compares to G-​Squared!

I have the non-​stereotypical Asian hair. And it is an uphill battle everyday I am wishing for the sleek straight lines in the morning, but I lose every time and the defeat follows me into the office with a mane of unruly wavy + straight hair. Add in a little humidity during the warmer months and poof, you’ve got a puffball coming right at you.
So, after attempting to figure out which salon to go to, I usually have a set of guidelines I use when trying out new stylists:
1. Look at their hair, because that is a good indicator of their inclinations and style.
2. Is the reception a bitch or cool. I’m a client, so I don’t need to deal with arrogant staff.
3. How are the stations? Are they clean, or is the floor carpeted with a new brand of diversified carpeting in multicolor.
4. Price price price. I was already paying $ 55 in Sacramento, so $ 100 for a haircut seems a little ridiculous, unless Fekkai agrees to do my hair for a Swan makeover, then his $ 300 per cut may seem plausible.
So saying, after reviewing various Unilocal reviews, I decided to hit G-​Squared because of the location.
Incidentally, the location sucks. Only because there is a lack of parking so I had to park on the other side of the 76(?) station and deal with the panhandlers along the way. Otherwise, I zipped down Harrison so it was a smooth ride.
The receptionist was so cool, I totally forgot about the gross walk there. She was nice, funny, and immediately eased me in as a new client. The salon is modern and a bit smaller than the huge space I am usually accustomed to, but I don’t care about stuff like that.
I had my hair cut by Jocelyn, who was the BOMB. She was friendly, social, energetic and communicative throughout the entire process, which encompassed an hour. I told her exactly what I wanted in terms of attacking my big hair and she complied by basically cleaning up the choppy layers that had grown out into some sort of brush indicative of the brush lands in Africa. Thinned out the pouf and flat-​ironed my hair to the point where a raindrop would have slid right off my new hair: it was shiny, smooth, and sleek. She handed me a mirror and when I shook my head, the long layers settled back into place, like water. Too bad I was not going out anywhere, but I felt a visit to Banana Republic would do my hair justice.
I paid $ 78 because my hair is midway down my back, but for only a $ 20 different from Sacramento, I’ve found my new SF stylist and have rescheduled for my next haircut.
