This is something in between a dumpling and a bun? Tasted mediocre! No surprise for $ 1.5 each! Something my mom can make much better at home ! I will never going to let my mom knows that paid $ 1.5 for this!

First, these are not really dumplings like the kind most people are used to. These are more like pan fried buns, sort of the like the buns on a BBQ pork bun/char sui bao but then cooked on a pan. The flavors are OK, a bit inconsistent. The quality is also inconsistent; if u get a freshly made one, it’s quite good, but the ones that’s just sitting there for awhile less so.

I heard its good and I had a chance to try it today since I was there for the orchids show. Luckily the line was not that long when it was still early. I picked the vegetarian, chicken and cilantro and cabbage and pork. I like the last one the most, very juicy and fresh. The vegetarian tasted very bland. Also part of the wrap was undercooked. I will still come back again for the cabbage and pork though.

I’ve passed Happy Dumpling every time I’ve gone to the Stonestown Market, but I’ve never tried it. They always have a long line. They were at the Grand Opening for Off the Grid Stonestown today and I had my chance. I like it! Had 3 Vegetarian(tofu & noodle) for $ 4 and the special Shrimp and Chives for $ 2 each. The dumplings are bigger than I expected. They are doughy and filling and worth my money. I’ll come back for sure.

We figured it must be good since there were a plethora of people waiting anxiously for these dumplings. We’ll don’t be fooled, because this is probably the worst undercooked/reheated/doughy dumplings I have ever eaten in my life. My husband and baby eats everything and they didn’t even touch it. We just ended up tossing it in the trash. Save your money and stay away.

I wanted to like them. I really did. After hearing all the hype about happy dumpling I got myself to the farmers market at stonestown for the specific purpose of trying them out and ordered the pork dumpling as well as the shrimp one. The biggest flaw I feel was the sheer amount of grease on the dumpling was so unpleasant. I felt like I was licking the Exxon Valdez. It was so hard to get past how greasy and oily but the pork was far superior to the shrimp.

Happy Dumpling didn’t make me so happy. I tried the shrimp and chives. It wasn’t too bad but kinda dull and didn’t have much flavor. Seemed fresh though and costumer service was great.

for those who complain about the thickness and dough. it’s a translation mistake. what they call«dumpling» is really a «bao» just google 水煎包 It is a type of street food sold in china and taiwan it’s a bao that’s pan-fried. . it’s SUPPOSED to be that thick. it’s just one of many variations of street food. Usually baos are steamed, but this variation is pan-fried I dunno why they call it «dumpling» maybe they think it’s easier for ppl to understand. Also maybe Happy Dumpling sounds better than Happy Bao.lol. i think their vsn is pretty delicious. it’s actually comparable to the ones i had in taiwan. the chive/egg/shrimp is my fav. like one of the revewer said. if it’s too thick. just don’t eat so much of the dough, like a hollowed out sandwich. i personally don’t like too much filling, feels too heavy. There are vsns on asian streets that have more fillings and less dough. Really it’s all up to the vendor creativity. Diff. vendors create diff. variations. There’s no absolute RIGHT or WRONG way to do it as long as it taste good :-) and people are buying.

Happy Dumpling is definitely a low risk, high reward stop at OTG. Even though you may be picky about how you like your dumplings, you can’t go wrong with Happy Dumpling. At $ 4 for 3 big dumplings, you will definitely be satisfied with your snack. There are several different dumplings to choose from, but I generally get the ones with the meat(the shrimp, chicken, or pork cabbage). After trying all of them, I actually don’t have much of a preference just because of what a steal you get from Happy Dumpling. All in all, I will definitely come back again! Eat well and prosper,

Love the chicken and cilantro. Come here almost every Sunday just for these dumplings. The price has gone up though. Used to be cheaper.

Happy Dumpling is a very indifferent dumpling by Bay Area standards. I experienced them in a booth on Telegraph Avenue. The booth was fairly large and I got a few of them. The line was small and they were ready quickly. As I bit into them, the exterior was somewhat oily. The taste was somewhat crisp and adequate, but the price for a snack was not that special. It was nothing that couldn’t be found in another city. If you’re looking for a light snack, Happy Dumpling might work.

We actually got a happy dumpling in Berkeley on Sunday. We got one of each flavor. The only one that was good was the shrimp. The others were not so great. It was located on Telegraph and Haste if you want to try it out. It was pretty cheap, though I guess you can get fresher dumplings elsewhere.

My first stop at OtG Fort Mason tonight because who doesn’t want pillowy deliciousness and I’ve been regretting that stop ever since. The dumplings were barely warm, greasy, and bland. They had stacks of already pan fried ones they were pulling from at 7:30 and it seriously sucked. I should have been wary when I didn’t see a line. Worse yet, my stomach almost immediately knew something was off with the dumplings and I couldn’t eat much afterwards. Dropping from outstanding to one of my saddest food decisions, I’m not sure I’ll give them another try anytime soon. But you have been warned – only get them if they’re making them fresh – otherwise, you might be in for a wish you had up chucked burp-tastic night.

I stopped by the Stonestown Farmer’s Market for the first time! My boyfriend and I saw this food truck and kept seeing people lining up for days just to get these dumplings so… we decided to try it out! We decided to try three different dumplings. –Pork Fennel: This one was my favorite in terms of flavor. The fennel is INTENSE and probably from the farmer’s market. The savoriness goes great with the pork which I thought was juicy and flavorful in itself too. My boyfriend thought the flavor was too much but I liked it! –Shrimp, Egg, and Chives: This one was pretty good but I would have wanted big, juicy prawns instead of teeny dried looking shrimps. –Pork and Cabbage: Simple but delicious. Pork is savory and juicy and the cabbage adds texture. I wouldn’t say best dumplings everrrr but the dumplings are good!

Never thought I could get 水煎包(pan fried buns) in America. Pan fried buns are like potstickers. Instead of dumplings, they use buns. I used to bought those after school when I was in Taiwan. Those buns taste not exactly the same as ones from my memory but they are good no the less, especially the caramelized crispy bottom skin. Wish they putted some napkins around there booth. It is not right eating buns with knife and fork(which they did offer) in my opinion. Napkins are nice to have after eating those oily buns with hands.

They had a fungus, egg, and glass noodle dumpling once that was amazeballs, but I haven’t seen it since. If my parents knew I paid $ 1.33 a dumpling, I would be disowned.

We got some giant momos(dumplings) at the Fort Mason site. We chose the shrimp and egg filling, and they were pretty light. Soy sauce was key. The skin had a good bite and was obviously fresh and hand made. I wish more places would do Nepalese food, so yay for doing more unique Asian food. Cash only.

«The hell is this?» I thought, as I walked past a long line of marketgoers on my way to the Renegade Craft Fair. I checked: it’s a line full of people who would stand in line for… dumplings? Hmm. I walked away and got my juicy peaches(seriously brought me to tears). A few hours later, the line was still there, and it was nearly 2, so… I joined the fracas. It was almost closing time, so beggars couldn’t be choosers — but I’m so glad I ended up with pork and cabbage. They were SO good. I’m not a huge fan in general but they were juicy enough to taste like potsticker-crisp xiao long baos — thick, like the amount of dough I like in knife-cut noodles. This is the best possible combination. Its perfection can be noted from space.(And all they need is a splash of black vinegar!) I live in the suburbs. How can I get more of these in my life?!

These pan fried dumplings ROCK! Decided to give these a try because I’ve never had Shandong style Pan fried dumplings, so I got like a trio of their flavors-6 pieces which came with Black Vinegar and Sweet Chili dipping sauces: Cabbage and Pork Chive, Egg, and Shrimp Chicken and Cilantro Nothing but pillowy soft goodness with a slightly crisp exterior, kinda like a cross between a potsticker and a pirogie. so far, so good… on to our next tasty bite… ALOHA!!! Fresh, Hot, Fluffy, Crisp, Porky Chive Goodness! For months, I’ve wanted to try Happy Dumplings after seeing my friend’s post on Facebook. Happy Dumplings is normally at the Stonestown Farmer’s Market on Sundays, but the majority of my Sundays are spent«recovering» from the weekend so needless to say I never made it out there. Luckily enough for me, Happy Dumplings happened to be at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration in Little Saigon/TL on Saturday(5.21.11), so I finally got a chance to try them. After reading some negative reviews on Unilocal,I didn’t have high expectations but was more than pleasantly surprised. For $ 3, we got three MASSIVE, I repeat MASSIVE Pork & Chive Dumplings. They’re normally four dumplings to an order, so I’m assuming prices were hiked up/portions downsized for this special event. Regardless, they were worth every penny(even though my friend paid). Everything is fresh and made on-site; even the dough for the dumplings and the dumplings are pan-fried in fresh batches. Bottled condiments like soy sauce, black vinegar, white vinegar, sriracha, and Thai sweet chili sauce(very odd) are available for your slathering pleasure, though it would have been nice if they had some house made dipping sauce to give it that edge. PORK&CHIVEDUMPLINGS: One of the BEST Pan-fried Dumplings I’ve had! I’m normally not a fan of pan-fried dumplings because they tend to be overly greasy, but not these. Happy Dumplings’ dumplings are a cross between a potsticker and a steamed bun. The dumplings are light and fluffy with a perfectly browned bottom for that nice crispy texture contrast. You can tell the dough is fresh as it has a soft, chewy bite to it. The savory pork filling is succulent and juicy with just the right amount of chives to add an oniony freshness without overpowering the porky flavor. Each bite made my tummy smile! :) One dumpling was just not enough, so I guess«lazy» Sundays will start having to be a thing of the past…
