Head Spa

I just had my first experience at Head Spa yesterday after buying a Gilt SF deal. Prior to buying the deal I had looked at Unilocal and the reviews did not disappoint. McKenzie was awesome! She is super friendly, prompt, a good listener (about how I liked to style my hair), and fun to chat with throughout the hair appointment. I told McKenzie that I am afraid to refer Head Spa to anyone else for fear of knowing the secret will get out and then I won’t be able to get in when needed, but I can’t help but write this review recommending both her and this salon to others.
I also booked them for my wedding in two weeks for all the blow outs for the weekend events as well as an up-​do on the big day with Camie. I met Camie while McKenzie was cutting my hair yesterday and she seems amazing — can’t wait to see how she styles my hair for the wedding. :)

After weeks of hating my hair, McKenzie worked her magic to bring life back into my strands. I showed her a few pictures for inspiration but she knew exactly what she needed to do to make my hair shine again. McKenzie even taught me how to style it just like the pictures I showed her. Love, love, LOVE!

McKenzie is the jam! Super rad chick and extremely passionate about what she does. Her talent is undeniable, absolutely incredible color work and with my technically tough cut, SHE NAILED IT!!! Truly, best salon and hair dresser in this city by the bay!
Also, just wait until you experience their lay down shampoo station beds. Be careful, coupled with McKenzie’s head massaging skills, they just may lull you into a relaxed snooze :)

Finally, a great cut and blowout on Chestnut. I saw McKenzie based on Unilocal reviews and was thrilled with my blowout. She did a cut and color consult at the same time. Saw her the next weekend for a perfect haircut. She’s totally personable and professional. Also watched her colleague Cammie turn out some beautiful heads of hair on happy clients too. Head Spa is a great find!

Robin did my hair for a particularly special night out. I got the head massage (heavenly!) and blow out combo package. I have to say, I’m not stranger to doing my own hair and to getting it done, but it’s always a pleasure to meet someone who actually enjoys what they do.
Robin took her time, I had a great time chatting to her, she’s so fun and nice, I walked out with exactly what I wanted, my hair looked fantastic for the next two days. what more could a girl ask for?
I don’t live in the area, but if I did, I would most certainly frequent the place!
Oh and also, the products they use are awesome! I had no residue, greasiness or flaking even though to achieve the volume we were going for, Robin had to use quite a bit of product, but I was left with silky soft, touchable hair — what a win! So glad I gave Head Spa a try!

I have never liked getting my hair cut. I generally find it awkward, and I feel bad for the stylist that has to deal with this frizzy mane. To get through it, I need to chat. I have to trick myself into feeling like I’m just hanging out with a friend for the morning. With many a stylist, this has been nearly impossible. It’s not their fault, but the connection just isn’t there. I have tried — sometimes even for years — to make it work, but there is no faking it.
Enter Camie. Once every two months for the past year, for about an hour, Camie has been my best friend. She gives me restaurant recommendations, I update her on my relationship, we talk about celebs. It is so natural. I miss her in between hair cuts and look forward to telling her about my life events. I am not kidding. She is a dream for a girl like me, and, to make it even better, she makes me look like a Pantene model every time I leave her chair. People text me and message me to ask where I got my hair done. Pretty fantastic right?

I went to Head Spa wanting a quick haircut and came out with an entirely new look! Camie is amazing and caught on that I might be looking for something more edgy. I have never received more compliments on a haircut. Will definitely be going back!

I am thrilled with the haircut McKenzie gave me! She is a joy to talk to and really understands what styles will work as well as hair treatment/​health. She took the time to talk about what works and doesn’t work for me, what I can do to protect my hair from breakage, and how to curl it Pinterest-​style :P Not to mention the relaxing wash and blow-​out! I feel like it’s one thing to just get a haircut, and another to come out of the salon feeling like you had a fun and informative experience! Thanks McKenzie!

McKenzie was great! This was the best haircut I’ve gotten in SF thus far!
The warm shampoo is legit and super relaxing, and they have these big-​ass tables you lay on like a goddamn King. Headspa offers head massages, and I highly recommend you do yourself a favor and go get a haircut and head massage. You will look fresh as hell, smell like heaven, and be treated like a prince.

I was really disappointed in the blow out I got here. It looked okay for about a minute while I was paying, but didn’t even last for the five minutes it took me to get home. This was my first blow out experience, and I was hoping it would save me time and worry while getting ready for an evening event. Instead, it left me wishing that I had just done my own hair (and saved my money). At least then I wouldn’t have been rushing to try to salvage my hair while getting dressed and doing my makeup.
The woman who did my blow out was not friendly and didn’t seem like she liked doing hair at all. I prefer a quiet experience when I’m getting my hair done, but it’s nonetheless a little unnerving when your stylist is in a visibly unfriendly mood. She was kind of rough with her hands, both when she was washing my hair and drying it. I had been excited about getting a blow out, but the tense interaction with her put a damper on the whole thing.
I’m not a neat freak, but the condition of the salon could use some work. While my head was positioned downward at one point, I spent a few minutes staring at the dirty floor and baseboards, covered in hair and dust.
The manager was there during my appointment, and she was very friendly with me. It actually seemed like she was trying to make up for my unfriendly stylist, which I appreciate. I think she genuinely cares about the salon, so it’s a shame my experience was so bad.

Cut, colour– she does it all!
I came in as a platinum blonde needing to get roots retouched and had brassy parts throughout hair. Camie spoke to me about my options and concerns.
I ended up getting roots retouched and toning out my brassy ends of hair to get the full Khaleesi Game of thrones look. Prices are affordable and salon is very clean.
Highly recommend Camie for any colouring needs!

I recently got my hair done by Camie and I absolutely love it. Camie is very knowledgable about hair and knows what she is doing!

Management was very kind in offering me a re-​do and, showed me why all the others gave it a five star rating. They told me that they overhauled the staffing. I certainly wasn’t disappointed this time.
I trusted them with a very special occasion and they totally came through. Camie was my stylist and, she is extremely knowledgeable about the various products they carry. She also listened and gave me exactly what I wanted. Bonus-​my blowout lasted for days! The lady is extremely personable… Looking forward to seeing you all again.

I told her this a million times: McKenzie is magic! I literally gave her an Internet image (it was a comic book rendition of the Phoenix from X-Men…yes, I’m a nerd), and she brilliantly matched the color for my hair. I came in with the intention to defer my hair decisions to her expertise, and I’m so glad I did! McKenzie is precise yet quick and very professional. What I appreciated most was that she talked me through her process so I knew exactly what she was doing and why. For someone that gets her hair done once in a blue moon, this is critical.
We went with red full highlights with a trim and layers. I couldn’t be more happier!

I’ve been going to Head Spa for a year now, and I feel so lucky to have found Camie! Seriously — she’s the best and does it all. So much so, that I won’t let anyone else touch my hair. Not only does she give fabulous blow outs and hair cuts, but she does excellent color too. I came in with old highlights and wanted to change up my look and go darker. She quickly pulled up an idea on her phone, showed me and explained exactly what she would do and executed it to perfection. I could not be happier with it! Camie is professional, listens to what you want/​are looking for, and provides recommendations when necessary. I completely trust her.
She’s also just a gem of a person — I adore our chats. The appointment flies by and we talk about anything and everything. She’s the kind of person that has a knack for making you feel comfortable, as though you’ve known her your entire life. Honestly, if I ever move, I think I HAVE to convince Camie to move too!

Okay– so let me preface this review by telling you that I have gotten a blowout at almost every salon in San Francisco, with varying degrees of satisfaction. Some places are good but they take too long to do your hair, some are always booked or they are flaky with appointments, and I’ve had plenty of experiences with stylists who really just didn’t know what they were doing. I was ready to give up on getting my hair done and resign myself to just wearing ponytails everyday.
That is, until I found Camie at Head Spa.
I originally came here because my blowout appointment at another salon was cancelled last minute and I didn’t know where else to go. So I stumbled upon Head Spa on Chestnut and had Camie do my blowout. She was AMAZING! Seriously– she was friendly and talkative, offered me beverages, and knew exactly what to do with my hair to make it look FANTASTIC! And– best of all– she really knows what she’s doing, so she can do your hair really quickly and have it looking amazing.
It’s been over a month and a half since I first went to Camie, and now I get a blowout with her weekly– she’s that good. I love that she really listens to me when I describe what look I’m going for, and not only does she make my hair look better than it’s ever looked, but her blowouts also last longer than ones I’ve gotten at other places. Seriously, I wish I could have Camie do my hair every day.
So if you’re tired of lackluster blowouts from inexperienced stylists, go to Head Spa and REQUEST CAMIE. Because she’s freaking amazing and you won’t regret it.

Eoanna is incredible. Friendly but not overly talkative, attentive and knowledgeable in her trade. Her expertise shows through in her confidence both in words and actions. I LOVED my blowout: volumized hair, touchable curls, instant self esteem boost.
