The salads looked great but I got the Banh Mi, which was just alright. My partner got«phad thai» which was really just noodles swimming in a pool of watered down peanut sauce. I think they try to do too much. I’d say pick your best 15 dishes and do those super well and scratch the rest.

The service I received today was kinda awful. There were two others than myself in the restaurant and the service was very subpar. I used to love this place, I’ve worked in the area forever and have been watching this place get sadder and sadder. They also typically forget to put the noodles in my Ramen. Today was the 4th time.. . At least it wasn’t a pick up order on this occasion. Merr :( Really wish I had something better to say

Great selections. Nice place. Some of the food can be bland. The sautéed kale and macaroni salad were very under seasoned and underwhelming.

Seriously, don’t come here Horrid service, as you have probably read extensively below. It took so long we actually left after our appetizer. Gross backyard is uninspired and dingy. Server was having an argument in parallel with another table made the entire experience as awkward as hell.

Ok so, horrible service. The worst ! What sucks is the food is pretty good and consistent across the locations. Showed up tonight hungry and tired, ordered my food, curry soup and garlic bread, gluten free, then another server came back and asked me if I ordered the shwarma, I said«no» and retold my order and repeated gluten free 3 times to which the new server said«yeah gluten free». This was a non issue and was actually kinda amusing, In general I try not to sweat the small stuff and let things go. The soup arrived with wheat noodles, when I said something the server pretty much Ernst of on me about how I hadn’t told him and he was a different server so it was my fault then he proceeded to tell me they didn’t offer gluten free noodles. When I informed him that I was there two days ago and had the glutten free noodles he went into the kitchen to see if I was in telling the truth. Upon confirmation that I was in fact telling the truth her told me they could give me a side of the noodles and that was all they could do for me. I was pretty shocked. I asked for a clarification and he told me that because it was my fault all they could do was take out the wheat noodles and give me a side of the rice noodles. It seemed to me that if I stayed I’d have to eat the soup that had had gluten noodles in it, I told him that want going to happen and I left. To which he seemed content. Hungry tired and trying to take a quick break between work everyday I thought this was a good option but, the service here is the worst. The other day the server, different from the one tonight seemed tired and angry and wouldn’t look me in the eyes starting off into traffic when she asked me what I wanted :( The funny thing is this same server from tonight told me the other day that all the soups would be gluten free from now on. I think there might be something mental wrong with this guy. Bad way to run a business if your the owner or an employee. Herbivore has never had great service but, it’s going down hill, with so many places to eat now in sf you think they’d try. That odd interaction cost them hundreds of dollars as it was the final straw, I will never be back to that location and there’s never parking on Valencia good bye herbivore! I need lunch in sf 5 days a week too bad this won’t be one of my stops anymore. Trust me there have been other issues, small to big and they have all added up :( Try at your own risk

Was so excited about the menu and when we got our food it was so bad… I ordered noodle soup & got rotten basil on the side, the kale was old, turning yellow & not fresh at all. The soft tacos were flavorless, kale salad was meh and the shawarma was horribly bland with burnt up bread. Won’t be coming back here that’s for sure. Waitress was super friendly, that’s the only good thing about this place.

The only reason for a one star review is the fact that I ordered 3 items on the menu and they forgot to put one of them. I realized when I got home, so can’t rate the food because I paid for it but never got it. :(

I went on Sunday around 1pm — not much people in the place so we sat in the cute(but dirty) patio outside. Originally, I wanted to put 3 stars because we just had one of worst service ever: 30mn to get someone take our order, 45mn to get the food(for salads dear god!!!). I had no patience anymore by the time the check came, I went up to the counter and paid cause we would have waited 30mn to get it done. Food was nothing great but nothing terrible. But hey why only two stars then? Because both my friend and I got sick from our salad … Do not go there. Please. There’s no many better options in the neighborhood

Great food. Nearly most inattentive service period. Takes 5 – 10 min for anything to happen(beverage, order, check please). No I’m not impatient… things just move slow here(and customers feel forgotten). Again, awesome food though! :) …and 5 stars if there was better service.

I’ve really liked everything I’ve had here, and I like meat so much I consider bacon a condiment. The last time I got the Ramen, and it was really delicious. Pancakes and scrambled non-eggs breakfast things were really good. Service has always been fine for me, too(just read some horror stories). I’ve almost considered coming here without my vegan friends. It hasn’t happened yet, and probably never well(unless I stuff some meat in my pockets before hand? is this place BYOM?), but still highly recommended.

I debated writing this review because I generally like to support vegan and vegetarian restaurants, but dangit Herbivore — you’ve gone too far this time. This place has the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Our waiter ignored us for the first 20 minutes. Then we approached him and asked him to take our order — he said he’d come back to us, which took another 10 minutes. 30 minutes later(so we’d been waiting a whole hour), it was clear our order had never been entered into the system and he’d forgotten what we ordered. At that point, we walked out hungry. Being a vegan restaurant is no excuse for sucking at life, Herbivore! Get your sh*t together! P. s. I’m writing this review from the Thai restaurant down the street from Herbivore. This restaurant is a place that will treat me like a human being, actually cook some food for me, and so it on a timescale compatible with the norms of «dinner time» in America.

Brunch has to be my favourite time of day to get food @herbivore; well, anytime is a good time. Food is great, comes out a little slow, but that must be because it’s fresh & house made. The breakfast combo is satisfying, mashed potatoes with lentil loaf & mushroom gravy are so tasty, nachos piled high with ingredients. Service can be a bit slow, but overall the experience is worthwhile.

I like places cater to vegetarians and vegans, it is something that is not easy to do, and when you find a place that says it as such, you go in with high expectations. sadly for this cat, my expectations were not met. I came in with some friends on a Friday night and we were pretty excited. we had heard good things about herbivore so we were happy to be able to try it for ourselves. maybe we should not have put our expectations so high. upon arrival, we were seated all the way in the back, which we thought was a bit odd as there was much seating in the front, but it was not too much an issue. for some reason we were only given one menu for three people. this was a bit strange? maybe they do this here but I haven’t been to a restaurant that does this as such. it wasn’t too much an issue as we were happy to share the menu, but it was a bit strange. we decided on the dishes we wanted and were ready to order. we waited, and our server did not come back. we finally waved someone down and said we were ready to order. «Ok just a moment» we were told and he went off to the kitchen it seemed. Never came back. after waiting a bit more, our original server came back and took our order. So here’s the thing. I have worked as a server before and in the restaurant industry. I know that sometimes it can get busy and you can forget, it happens. But it was not even busy this day at this time at all, and I think the reason we were forgotten is because we were the only 3 put all the way back at the very end of the restaurant. anyways, we got our food quite quickly which was nice. I had ordered a Pad Thai, which is one of my favorite dishes when I go to Thai restaurants, so I figured I would like theirs. I was met by a very creamy sort of Pad Thai and I was a bit confused. Creamy? this was new to me, but I gave it a shot. This was very bizarre. The cream was like someone melted peanut butter and cream and poured a ton of it over noodles. it was much too strong and heavy and I had never tasted anything like this before. My friends tried it and also said it was quite strange and too heavy. I don’t believe in wasting food so I ate the rest, but this was starting to make me feel a bit sick so I stopped. it literally was like trying to drink peanut butter. We asked for the check twice before we finally got it the 3rd time, and got out of there. I am sad that I was disappointed by this place. Everything in me wanted to like it so much, and maybe I just had the wrong dish or somehow came on a bad day, but this was not the experience I was looking for. I will try to find vegetarian and vegan options elsewhere for now. *grr.*

Great food! Nachos are amazing! A must get and its a BIG portion so be ready to take it home or share. Price is fair for the amount of food you get. Service is a little slow(to give order) but once it’s in food came out very quickly! Awesome vegan food whether you’re a vegan or not!

I had ordered a grilled seitan lavash wrap for dinner to go and it came with a side salad. It was ready in 15 min, pretty quick! I wish I could’ve eaten it in the restaurant when I picked it up I noticed it was a really cute classy little joint I definitely wouldn’t mind dining it. Buttttttt I was supposed to eat dinner with coworkers at 4505 Burgers and BBQ like a block away, and gave up meat recently so knew I had to eat something from somewhere else. ANYWAYS The wrap was really delicious and super satisfying. The side salad is pretty pathetic it was probably like one large lettuce leaf cut up haha. But the wrap totally filled me up so no biggie. Ya’ll vegans/veggie heads should come here. I WILLBEBACK.

We were here on Sunday for brunch, and the restaurant was mostly empty. We asked the waiter if that was normal, and she said she didn’t know because it was only her 2nd day.(I couldn’t believe any restaurant would expect someone to be fully trained in two days!) The food took a long time to get to us, and was just ok. I ordered the combo plate, and everything was good, but nothing special. In 2007, my first visit, this was the vegan restaurant to beat. I don’t know if they’ve gone downhill since then, or if all the other restaurants have raised the bar, but unless it looks like they’ve upgraded their menu, I probably won’t be back. Blueberry cornbread was awesome.

Went here a few years ago, loved it. Went back tonight… was the food always this boring? Everything was bland. Nachos didn’t have enough fake cheese, my Indian wrap wasn’t really, uh, Indian… unless you count putting pickles in your burrito as Indian. The chocolate milkshake was fantastic, though. Maybe my bar has been raised because I’ve found better places, such as Real Food Daily in Southern CA – not to mention finding awesome vegan cookbooks, which make meals easily better than what I got at Herbivore tonight.

You know a restaurant is good when it’s almost impossible to pick something off the menu. Both my mom and I had to pretty much do eenie meenie miney mo so we wouldn’t spend all day drooling over the menu and so we could get on with our dining. Lots of smoothies, shakes, juice and sodas. Meals spanned many types of cuisine and included bigger meals, lighter fare, appetizers, etc. I’m not a salad person, but the salads here were incredible and I even ordered one of them as my meal! Hey Herbivore, how about opening up a location in Naperville, IL?! Doesn’t that sound like an awesome place to set up shop? And you know you’ll have at least one very loyal customer.

There’s nothing inherently bad about Herbivore, but there’s also nothing that great. I’ve tried pasta, curry, chicken, sandwiches, pie — and it’s all just been okay. It usually seems like a bunch of store-bought stuff put together to make a new dish. Service is always slow, though not totally unfriendly. Anyway, I can’t take away any more stars because it’s just so nice to have a fully vegan restaurant around.

What a disappointment. After waiting at least 10 minutes for someone I take our order, I get greeted by ms whatever. I ask for the pas thai not to be to spice she actually tells me «it’s already made». Really?! What is SHE thinking. The pad thai is like a thick gravy on noodles. More like a spaghetti noodle even. No in adiantum here. Terrible. NOTGOODATALL. I have microwaved better. We also get the Mac and cheese. Ok. This is basically a soup. Lacks flavor and the«grilled» tomatoes ARENOTGRILLED. Kraft beats it! Maybe it’s all REHEATED here.
