This is definitely not what I think of when hearing House of Pancakes. It’s probably even better. I’m not the biggest fan of traditional breakfast with piles of cake batter and syrup. However, this place does pancakes right; with scallions, beef and all other things good to get you through the day. It’s a small sized location but seating is adequate, depending on what you go. I went with coworkers for lunch and we were seated without any issues. The table ordered beef rolled pancake, stir fry hand pulled noodles with beef and mustard green, lamb and chive dumplings as well as an order of the pickled cucumbers. Every single item was delicious in its own right. The beef rolled pancake was cut up into four pieces and had good chunks of beef in it. I would order again. Everyone raves about hand pulled noodles and I can see why. The noodles are stretchy and chewy without being overly cooked. I would order again but have it done in the traditional soup instead of stir fry to be healthier. Lamb dumplings were pan fried and my first bite resulted in juices flying everywhere. It even hit my glasses! I wasn’t one to let a little blurry vision impact my eating so I powered through and enjoyed some cucumbers, which was lathered in a sauce of chili and garlic. Don’t let the name confuse you, this cozy Asian restaurant is rolling up pancakes well. It might not be the cleanest but that’s not the right expectation. Come with the mindset of enjoying some tasty food cooked from scratch. It won’t make but a minor dent in the wallet as well.

This time around, I was not that impressed with the food. The service was very good. A man whom I believe is the owner was very kind and attentive to serving us. He greeted us when we arrived even said«Thank you» to us while we were dining and when we were leaving. There was a party of three of us on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30pm. We waited for around 20 minutes for a table. We ordered: — Preserved Vegetable/Pork Hand Pull Noodle $ 6.95. This was my favorite dish out of all the dishes we ordered. The noodles had a good chewy texture, the preserved vegetables and the pork tasted fresh, and the soup was very tasty. This soup had more flavor than the Master Green w/Pork Hand Pull Noodle $ 6.95. — Eggplant w/Tofu dish $ 6.95. It was tasty but spicy. — Pot Stickers with Chicken $ 5.95. It came with 6 pieces. It was good but not crispy at all on the outside. — Fried Rice with Shrimp $ 6.95. There were about four large pieces of shrimp. The fried rice was ok.

WOW! Their hand pulled noodles are perfect. The meat was tender and the soup wasn’t salty. Not sure what kind of pancakes we got as my cousin ordered for us, but it was nice and crunchy! I’m drooling just thinking about it. Unfortunately we came here as a late night snack so 4 people shared 2 dishes. Wish we had gone there for dinner. Took of a star because the restaurant was a bit dirty, but not so dirty it’ll keep me away.

Hand pulled noodles, tender, toothsome, unbelievably satisfying, especially in my favorite application, the Master Green soup with pork($ 6.95 and can easily feed two) and seriously in the top five best noodles places in the city is delicious. The chicken wings are also crispy and delicious and the pancake with egg is a must —(a wok fried crispy classic onion pancake layered with fried egg and rolled up with a light sauce– $ 3.95 and great as a meal for one, appetizer for two or shared app for 4). The couple next to me had the black bean sauce noodles which look amazing — next time for sure. Not gonna lie, this places is a dive in the truest sense of the word. It has so little atmosphere that it’s zero-ness IS it’s atmosphere. Ugly beige walls, cheap plastic table fan mounted to the wall, ugly laminate tables, absolutely no décor — just ugly chairs, tables and a cash register station, BUT you get your food and if it bothered you before it won’t anymore. This places is all about the food. To prove the point, I was there at 11:30 on the dot when they open and they were full with local Chinese patrons within 10 minutes if that tells you anything. It should. This is Chinese home cooking, Asian soul food, and food for the true foodie that turns over every rock in every neighborhood looking for the perfect noodle, perfect broth, etc. This is not for show ponies. Please hipsters and faux show-foodies — stay away. Imagining your waxed mustache and suspendered skinny jeans or your $ 300 hoodie and gladiator sandals across from me talking about ‘umami’ and ‘mouthfeel’ while I’m trying to slurp my soup in peace would ruin the atmosphere they’ve worked so little not to have. I would really hate to have to throw my bowl at you and waste such amazing noodles. But I will.

One of the best Chinese pancakes I’ve had in America. House of Pancakes belongs in its own pancake tier. Prices are decent. Dinner for 3 at $ 50. Portion sizes are average. The only negative here is the high amount of added sugar in most dishes. Must orders: pancake, pig ears, and hand pulled noodles.

House of Pancake– they got delicious beef noodle soup, the noodles are hand pulled and taste very fresh. They don’t clump together when you order take-out. It comes with spinach and the beef pieces are very tender. The broth is rich and tasty, and if you love spice, add the chili sauce and it becomes even more wonderful! The tripe is very good too as an appetizer, a bit pricey for a small appetizer $ 5.95 but it is good… got that sesame oil and spice flavor. I recommend getting the soup version of hand pulled noodles over the chow mein style, because there’s so much more flavor with the soup.

Really impressed by the quality of service, considering that there’s been only one lady running the front of the house during the times I’ve been here. She makes a genuine effort to connect with customers like saying«Hey, It’s been a long time since I saw you. How are things going?», making food suggestions such as ordering the lamb hand-pulled noodle spicy(off-menu), or explaining all the sauces in the condiment rack/caddy even though our party didn’t ask. Although this mom and pop shop is called House of Pancakes, my favorite thing to order here is the lamb hand-pulled noodle. I’m usually averse to eating lamb because there is often a pungent aftertaste, but they’ve managed to cook the lamb noodle soup in a way that minimizes the aftertaste. You can order the lamb hand-pulled noodle spicy(and probably any of their other noodles spicy as well) although this option isn’t listed on the menu. The spicy edition of the soup isn’t spicy in the traditional sense, but rather adds flair to the soup because of the additional spices that are used. It’s kind of like drinking stew that’s used for Chinese stewed meat(滷肉). The noodle soups are roughly $ 7 – 8.

While the ambiance or décor may not be that great, the food here is so delicious and cheap, it’s what’s gonna keep you hooked! This is a hole-in-the-wall little restaurant, cash-only, but trust, the food is delicious! When you order the hand-pulled noodles, you can choose either stir fry(chow mein) or soup form. We chose stir fry and please know that when they give you scissors, they are for cutting the noodles! Do not embarass yourself like we did trying to scoop these long-ass noodles into our little bowls. The black bean noodle also tasted hand-pulled and chewy and super flavorful. It was a little oily so make sure you mix it thoroughly before serving! We also ordered the Unilocal-famous beef-handrolls which lived up to their hype! The roll is so tender and the sauce is slightly sweet and tangy. It was a little small but we just bought another one for the road: D

My friend wanted to eat here. I am sure there are better dishes than what he got. He is a vegetarian and got tofu with vegetables and green onion pancakes. The tofu with vegetables dish was awful, but of course I eat meat, so that’s probably why it seemed totally dull. The pancakes were okay. Maybe i’ll come back and do the restaurant justice. Small space.

Delicious Chinese food at affordable prices. YASSSS… you speak my language, House of Pancakes(erm, except in your misleading title– this ain’t an iHOP here). I enjoyed all the food we ordered– beef roll pancake, green onion pancake w/egg, and master green pork hand pulled noodles. Distinct flavors. The homemade hot sauce chili oil adds a WAPOW kick. A few tables ordered the green beans– looks to be a popular side dish. Very friendly service. Small hole-in-the-wall feel. Really affordable dishes, say $ 6.95-ish. Typical Asian restaurant restroom. Cash only– for those who need to withdraw cash, there’s a Chase and Bank of America on the same block.

I love this place! It’s one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the Bay Area in my opinion. Cash only and friendly owners. Below are a few favorites I order every time I come. Beef Roll Pancakes: This definitely lives up to the hype of other reviews! Not only is the beef juicy but the pancake roll is delicious. It’s a pretty mind blowing combination. The first time I came we had 5 people and there are only 5 pieces. The second time I came with 5 people we got 3 orders. :) Noodle Soup: I’ve tried both the Pork noodle and fried veggie pork noodle. Both are delicious! The portions are huge and the homemade noodles are the star of these dishes. Garlic String Beans: Really garlicy and smells amazing. A great choice for a veggie dish. Dumplings: I’ve tried the shrimp/spinach and pork/napa dumplings. The pork ones are my favorite but both are great. I’m pretty sure they are homemade and they are generous with the filling. Overall a solid mom and pop joint for authentic Chinese food. It’s a small place so be prepared to wait unless you come during off hours.

First time here. Where have I been. Everything perfectly delicious. The best Hand pulled noodle in the Bay Area. Black bean paste hand pulled noodles was juicy, awesome texture. Mustard green noodle soup was full of meat and mixed vegetables. Slit if Spinach and mustard greens. Perfectly balance, good size portions. Pork pancake was hot, crispy, juicy and full of meat. Gotta come back. Food is worth ever bite. Our left over noodles was not soggy. Everything here is freshly made with love. Lotsa flavor, hardy and tasty. Reasonably affordable, cash only. Small place with great customer service. Try it out.

This place is pretty small and there isn’t really any waiting space inside. So expect to stand outside. They have their waiting list hanging inside on the door, so be careful when you open the door cause someone may be putting their name down! Also there’s only street parking. You’ll also probably hear a bell ring throughout your meal here. I believe it’s the kitchen telling the servers there’s food ready for pick up in the back~ Came here and ordered: –BEEFPANCAKEROLL. This was yummy! They give you an option of getting it rolled or having them flat. Later heard from a friend that their sesame beef pancake is bomb. We’ll definitely come back to try that~ –GARLICSTRINGBEANS. I just love string beans! I wish a lot of the garlic actually stuck to the green beans. Ended up finishing this with a ton of minced garlic left in the plate. –HANDPULLEDNOODLES. You can get this as a soup or stirfry. I got this as a stirfry and the table next to me had gotten it as a soup. Not sure if it was just us or if it was suppose to be like this but our stirfry noodles came out cool. Not room temperature or cold, but cool. Its our first time eating this, so we’re not sure. But when you think stirfry, don’t you think it should be hot? Still good none the less. We’ll come back next time to find out, taha. There seems to be a lot less meat in the stirfry than the soup. When the table next to us got their soup it looked very hearty and full of meat! Overall I left full and pretty content.

Wow, will definitely come back here. My friends suggested this place for lunch and the name threw me off for a bit but it is far from IHOP, from the food to the environment, definitely not your typical«pancake» place. I reckon it’s called pancake house because of the Korean pancake they serve here. So good! The restaurant is very cozy, it’ll fit about maybe 40 people? It opens at 11:30. There was already a line when we got there at noon. The wait wasn’t too long though. I think we were seated within 15 – 20 minutes for a party of 5. Everything on the menu sounds so good so we had a difficult time deciding. We ordered 2 orders of the beef pancake rolls, stir fry green beans, pork & Napa dumplings, shrimp dumplings, stir fry beef hand pulled noodles, and dried vegetables hand pulled noodles. The dumplings were good, but not as good as some other places I’ve tried. Everything else was excellent. The hand pulled noodles had really good texture and very flavorful. String beans were stir fried with garlic, crispy and flavorful. Best dish was the beef pancake rolls! Yummy in my tummy! Just a warning that it’s CASHONLY, so bring some cash with you.

The weird name actually worked for me. It made me curious why a Chinese restaurant would be serving pancakes for dinner. Turns out«pancakes» is a bad translation for niu rou shao bing, which is a pastry-like appetizer with marinated sliced beef and green onions stuffed in between the layers. These«beef pancakes» are pretty good. I’ve had them before and these measure up nicely. They are more on the doughy side, and aren’t really crisped on the outside like others I’ve had, but the beef inside is well flavored and it’s generally quite tasty. They also make their own la mein noodles here. The noodles taste really fresh with terrific texture. So far, this sounds like a solid 4-star review right? Unfortunately, they blew it on one thing. Everything we ordered was waay too salty. To the point that we could barely finish the dishes on the table. Our beef chow mein had an overly intense oyster sauce taste, and the zajiang mein was also too salty. It’s really too bad because outside of the flavoring, I feel the dishes were well executed. Feels funny to say that… «yeah the food was pretty good except for the flavor». Too bad. I feel like this is not a hard thing to correct tho. Or maybe you can even tell them to hold the sauce a little bit yourself.

I’m in love and can’t believe it took me this long to try HOUSEOFPANCAKES! I got there at 8pm and no wait. Decided to come here because my friend and I really want the some hand pull noodles because of Anthony Bourdain. We order the **Master Green with Pork Hand Pull Noodle Soup. It’s a huge bowl of noodle soup for $ 7. Wow. The noodles are so long and tender that they give you a pair of scissors to cut them if needed. I had to use it a few times. It’s a light base soup which is perfect because everything else was full of flavor. We got the **Beef Pancake Roll. It crispy on the outside and lots of savory and sweetness on the inside. **Dried Tofu with Sauteed Pork was with of spices. They made it spicy and its so good. You can ask for nonspicy as well. Saving the best for last. Their **Pork Dumplings with Napa! It’s Delicious! It’s not soup dumplings but its super juicily inside. So much flavor. So good. Best dumplings I had in the states. MUSTGET!

This time we tried something new, the Spicy fish filet and tofu with mushroom. Surprisingly, the spicy fish filet is really good! The fish is very soft and it is very spicy. There is a huge amount of oil, do not freak out, this is normally how the dish is cooked. The tofu mushroom is actually spicy as well, with a good amount of mushroom. Other than that it is pretty average. This time we also give the fried noodles another try, and once again, very disappointing. Taste like soy sauce and very salty, not trying it again…

We ordered the beef green onion pancake, garlic green beans and vegetable soup with beef broth. All of the food was decent. The garlic green beans were fresh, crunchy and flavorful. The soup was a task because you had to cut then noodles up but I suppose that’s a part of the experience and appeal. The noodles were doughy and bland but the vegetables were fresh. The onion pancake was tasty but next time I’d order a different filling. The beef was nicely flavored but I liked the pancake better and would want to pair it with something more timid. Overall, a nice meal but the venue is small and kind of grungy. It was easily noisy and I felt our voices bounce around the small space. We tried to whisper to avoid disrupting people. Also, the tea smelled like soap which I disliked so left it untouched. The staff was very nice, the place just needs some sprucing up and some better tea.

Delicious food and the prices remind me of being in Taiwan! Note it is cash only but there’s a wells fargo and chase nearby. Very cozy, fast seating, and a little heater was by our table. Note it was great on a rainy day!

**CASHONLY** One of the better hand pulled noodle houses I’ve been to in SF. The beef noodle soup is great — noodles are fresh and chewy, broth is flavorful — meat pieces are a bit tough but ok. The pork and mustard green noodle soup is bland — skip. The soup noodle portions are huge. One bowl is enough for 2 to share if you want to order other items. The dumplings were a bit of a disappointment — the pork and cabbage filling just didn’t do it for me — bland and lacked taste. The skin was the thicker dougher type — not bad but not amazing either. The appetizers are pretty good especially the pig ears! Perfectly seasoned, crunchy/soft, and cut in nice thin slices. The cucumbers were really good as well but at around $ 6 – 7 for each dish — the portions are tiny. Good yes — portions no. The tofu with vegetable app — I would skip — it was a bit too salty. One of the best things on the menu for sure — the beef roll — ask to get an egg added to it — so delicious and tastes exactly like you would get in china. The lamb skewer is so good — again pricey $ 7? for 4 sticks but sooo good — grilled and seasoned perfectly Overall — great mom and pop shop to get your comfort chinese food fix. The couple(I’m assuming) that own the store are some of the friendliest people. Food quality can be a little inconsistent though — I got a bowl of lukewarm noodle soup the last time I went — bleh. Appetizer portions are small for the $ but good. The best things to get — soup noodles, beef roll w/added egg, pig ears, lamb skewers, and cucumbers.
