what… closed? I will have to verify. But I loved this spot because it was before you jumped on the freeway. Not only that, but it was drive thru set up on both sides… Why I gave 5 stars? The staff were always friendly!!! The price was always great! The service was fast!!! And they had a great selection of drinks that tasted outstanding!!!

Sadly, this location has closed. It was very convenient and had good coffee and breakfast sandwiches. I’ll miss it.

I don’t care how long I have to wait for the drive thru as long as I know that I’m going to be receiving excellent customer service from them, oh and some delicious coffee! I ordered the white and black mocha, small, and a chocolate muffin. When the lady came back, she came out with a hot black and white mocha and my muffin. I knew I messed up cause I forgot to say I wanted the blended white and black mocha. She didn’t hesitate to make it– she also gave me a medium instead of the small size I ordered! I’m gna keep coming here after dropping mom off to work lol. Chocolate muffin was on point too. Thanks guys!

For a drive through coffee place, I was shocked how slow this was. Literally took 15 minutes for them to serve 2 cars in front of us. Both of which only had 2 drinks. Would have been much quicker to park and run into a coffee shop. Coffee was so so

I like to compare Java Detour to that really pretty girl you sometimes get to sit next to on the bus. Sometimes she smiles at you, sometimes you talk about the weather. Sometimes she even laughs at your jokes. And then, just when you have gathered up the nerve to ask her out to dinner, she makes you sit in line for a half an hour and then pours hot coffee all over your crotch. I used to make a point to drive by here in the morning to get a medium cup of black coffee before I start my commute. On that very rare occasion when there is no one else in line, I could drive right up, hand over my $ 2 and be on my way with a pretty good cup of coffee. All without hardly even having to touch my brakes. And then there is EVERYSINGLEOTHERTIME I GO. There is a line of four cars ahead of me, which doesn’t seem like much. And it really isn’t. Until EVERYSINGLEPERSON decides to order a 3 course breakfast and a coffee drink/dessert that requires more time to assemble than whiskey drink at a hipster bar. As I sit there watching the few staff working there,(and quite hard I might add) I keep hoping that someday they will start some type of triage process, parking the cars that want to have a Starbucks experience in their car, while letting those of us who only want a simple, cash in hand, no cream, no sugar, no frozenmochacramelwhitechocolateoreofrappamericanonutmegwithwhipcream, medium cup of $ 2 black coffee pay and be on our way. I know it sounds ridiculous to want to be in a rush, just to sit behind a Google bus full of smart people who probably brought their own coffee. And I know I should simply bring my own. But I LOVE to buy my own coffee. I love the entire experience. That is why I always kept going back to Java Detour. Because some days, she smiles at you and makes you feel special. But most days, she’s just a huge pain in the ass. So, Java Detour, I have decided to start seeing other coffee shops. The 5 star reviews from all the breakfast sandwich eating, Oreo shake drinking fans you have makes me feel like its not you, its me. Maybe its them. Maybe we should all start drinking regular coffee like adults, without whipped cream and sprinkles. But until then, every time I drive by and see you have a new drink made out of another candy bar with a line of BMW3 series lined up, blocking traffic on Van Ness, I’ll remember the good times we had and be thankful I got a Keurig for Christmas.

So I have been coming to this place for years. But over the past few months things have definitely changed. Not sure if it is new management or new employees or what. But each time I have gone here, my coffee was not what I ordered, or it just was simply not drinkable because it was that bad. I went back like 4 times just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and have been disappointed each time. Now I will not be going back which is a shame because I used to always go here. I would give it one star except the employees are really friendly so two stars for that. So from a 5 star rating to a 2 star rating. Hopefully they get it together. But I am avoiding them in the future for sure. If you really crave Java Detour, go to the one in San Rafael. Much better!

Something must be going on lately… I’ve been coming here a few times a week for a long time now. I enjoy the coffee and the breakfast sandwiches are good… Twice in the last two weeks I’ve waited over 15 minutes to get a simple iced coffee and breakfast sandwich. The sandwich I got this time wasn’t even the one I ordered. I’d also like to point out that it wasn’t very busy either time. I stop on my way to work and if the lines long I know to keep going. These times there was no more than two cars in line. It shouldn’t be taking that long. Either they are understaffed, mismanaged, the walk-ups are throwing things off, or they’ve just stopped caring. I no longer feel comfortable stopping Before work because I feel like ill be late every time. Which is sad because I liked this place a lot

The coffee here is fantastic! I had just a plain iced coffee and my friend had the iced habiscus tea. Both were amazing! I work around the area, so I am definitely coming back soon! The service was amazing, as well. The girl at the window was very nice and I left her a good tip. She seemed genuinely happy about people being there!

Great blended drinks! Chai blended is delicious! I had it made with non-fat milk. Green tea blended is to great as well. My boyfriend orders the banana/chocolate/peanut butter blended drink. It’s his favorite drink there thus far. Drive thru wait isn’t too bad… then again I haven’t been there during rush hour.

Alternative route. Richmond brunch adventure is on hold. Sun way shining and Dolores Park beckoned. But still needed caffeine. Detoured here. For less than $ 4 had a smooth and delicious three shot Americano with sugar free vanilla syrup and nonfat milk. In other words perfect. Some detours in life prove to ultimately be the best path forward.

Did a day trip from Fresno to San Francisco with my brother and saw this place on our way home. He got the black and white something… I forgot. It’s their most ordered drink there. I like anything Mocha so I got the iced Mocha coffee and it was great! If I go to San Francisco I’d go back here, but I don’t travel there often. To all the locals I’m sure they find this place very popular.

Well… it’s been three months and I live nearby so I thought I’d give this place I used to love and frequent often another try. The food & coffee was better, but again they were only running one window WITHOUT a sign stating the second one was closed. While I waited to be helped three other cars got into the long line on the other side. I mean, how difficult is it to put a sign up in the closed window. This isn’t rocket science. And the female worker with glasses and tight braids needs an attitude adjustment. I will say that the your man who helped me at the window was very nice and listened when I complained about the other window. An inkling of customer service at least… I think some of the crew need to be reminded that it isn’t about they want, it’s about what is best for the customer. And I work in the service industry, so I have some cred when I say that… I guess I’ll try back again next quarter to see if the management has taken any action to improve this place. That visit will most likely be my last attempt.

This is your last Java stop before hopping on the central freeway off of Van Ness. The traffic getting on the central freeway from South Van Ness is always bad, so why not drive through and get something you like? Beats honking the horn.

I’m finding myself looking forward to getting on the freeway so that I can have an excuse to stop at this cute little place first. Yeah, the prices are a tad high. Convenience comes at a cost, right? I like that, when I ask for extra cream cheese on my bagel, they really lay it on thick, not just an anemic little pat like at other places. For me, a bagel is merely a vehicle for cream cheese; they get it, and they get it right every time. *pats belly roll, sighs with satisfaction* They speed you through by running up and down the line of cars taking advance orders and handling transactions; by the time you get to the window, you’ve already paid and all you have to do is collect your goodies. My favorite part, though — even more so than the cream cheese slabs — is how sweet the youngsters are who work there. A bunch of really nice kids. I always drive away feeling cheerier than before I got there. Can’t put a price on that.

If you don’t like to get out of your car to order your breakfast you can stop by this place. Also is convenient since is right near the Highway. Service is pretty friendly, but too many questions and too much time consuming. Ordered a Iced coffee Small with Ham and Egg Croissant for under $ 6.00. Not bad Coffee is pretty well done. The croissant was pretty oily but it was hot and steamy with a big chunk of egg and moist Ham.

There aren’t many options for coffee in the area where I work. I’ve tried many places around my work area and I’d rather risk my life jaywalking across Mission street, dodging the crazy crack heads in the urine drenched back alley and line up next to cars to get my coffee at Java Detour! This is a drive thru coffee joint, but they are more than delighted to help you if you walk up to their back door. Someone comes out and greets you immediately. When they’re busy, they acknowledge your existence and tell you they’ll be right with you. The employees there are very friendly, have great sense of urgency, and are attractive! One employee referred to me as «honey» and I tasted the extra love in my cup of coffee that morning. I took a sip, closed my eyes and moaned«MmmmmMmmm…»
