Hey Kate’a Kitchen!!! Are you there? This is my 3rd time trying to eat at your restaurant. I wouldn’t even bother, but my bf still has one of your groupon and all we want to do is use it. On Saturday June 11th, we went to your restaurant and found that you were once again close. 3 times already, every time you guys are close. WTF!!!

We decided to give them another shot on a weekday morning. Went in right around opening. This place is so much better when it is slow. The waitress was very very nice. The food was cooked beautifully. This was the first time and only time we have had a good experience here.(though we have only come in on the weekends so maybe that’s the problem). The biscuits and veg gravy was excellent. We will start coming here again but only on week days. Never again on weekends.

Wonderful spot for breakfast or brunch, offering a wide variety of typical brunch times, specifically French toast and pancakes. their cornmeal buttermilk pancakes are unique and delicious. they come with several options for topics. definitely worth the trip for a wonderful and fulfilling brunch experience!

The«big guy breakfast» is really good! It has eggs, home fries, bacon, homemade sausages, and pancakes!

Terrible breakfast. I’m not a picky person, so terrible means terrible. They some how had no way to heat water for tea, the eggs were like continental breakfast eggs, and the bacon was rubbery.

Looks promising inside but the thing I had(sausage sandwich was pretty terrible) the sausage was cold and tough, the cheese like Kraft cheese. The bun wasn’t even toasted. Service a little moody but they had a good grapefruit mimosa.

I love this place! The ten dollar chicken special is awesome! Food is super good! Pint of beer, two pieces of chicken, mash potatoes and beans with ham. Yum!

I normally only take the time to post 4 or 5-star reviews of the things I love. However, this place is so mediocre in a city of fabulous food, it prompts me to help others save themselves(and their wallets) from this experience. First, their wait staff isn’t very committed to the customer. Our waiter dropped the bill, but never once asked us how our food was or anything else to verify our satisfaction.(A low, even for CA service.) The kitchen and bathroom are near one another. I saw pans of food sitting out, unrefrigerated, that should have been in the walk-in cooler they don’t seem to have.(Food health seems important, but we did check and they have a 94 health score so I will let this lie.) All the food was simply… meh. In a city where I am overwhelmed with amazing food choices, I’m bummed I forgot to check Unilocal first to check their rating and relied solely on a «hidden brunch» article elsewhere. Lesson learned.

Came for a quick lunch. Really liked the ambience; laid back and fitting for Haight St. Prices are very reasonable and you get a lot of food. Got the daily egg scramble, which had kale, butternut squash, Gorgonzola, and whole cloves of roasted garlic. It came with a scratch made biscuit that was excellent. The hush puppies were less dense and crispy than I was used to — wound t recommend if tire looking for southern style pups.

Cute small neighborhood spot — the seating is a bit strange as they sat us with another two top — but the place is small so they have to fit us in some how I guess. Friendly service with decent prices. I ordered Mindy’s Hash Browns — hash browns folded with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheddar. It was like an omelet surrounded by hash browns — pretty delicious in my book. And a good sized portion — it lasted me two meals.

Kate’s Kitchen is a Lower Haight staple. In a word– southern. The portions are large and the restaurant’s atmosphere is casual and quite homey, making it a very pleasant breakfast experience. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you’re getting. My only complaint is that the restaurant is cash only.

It was pretty empty when we came. Started with the wings. Half buffalo, half bbq. The wings were oddly small. My favorite was the bbq, and my bfs fav was the buffalo. It all worked out fine. I really liked the ranch sauce they served with it. We shared the mahi mahi. It has a sweet and sour sauce. Which was good and they didn’t like the sauce on top of it. It was weird because half of the fish tasted good and the other half was fishy and salty. It came with mixed greens on the side. The plate was light and very balanced. It’s an alright place to check out.

Awesome brunch served up by real people without emptying your pockets. Try the biscuits and gravy for brunch– the biscuit is filled with salty, chivy, cheesy goodness. Meals are best shared between friends as portions are. Well. «Southern style». Love the friendly service here, the heaping portions of simple goodness and the fact that you don’t need to wait two hours for some hash browns. Solid.Brunch.Spot.

Kate’s Kitchen has a diner feel meets trendy breakfast spot. The service we had was incredible, accommodating and quick to take our order and meet our needs. They had great prices and breakfast and brunch selections. I ordered the Lauren Special: Two eggs any style on a kaiser roll with sausage, cheese, tomato, red onion, avocado, and chipotle aioli. Served with home fries. YUM!

There are much better brunch places in SF but this place was across the street from my apartment so I could put our name in and walk back across the street instead of waiting outside with ~15 other people during weekend brunch time. One thing I noticed is they have very reasonable prices, compared to other SF place, but that’s because the atmosphere is very casual as opposed to the usual upscale city brunch. No need to fear– yes they have mimosas. If the ideas of a cornbread/flapjack hybrid excites you, definitely come here for the cornmeal pancakes. I had them plain although they have a ton of specials on the wall, the more interesting ones I remember were peach/ginger, strawberry/granola, and strawberry/banana/lemoncurd. They have the classics like blueberry and banana/walnut as well. The french toast was pretty good but nothing special. Nice hint of cinnamon although you can barley taste any orange flavor. I’ve also had the hash before; again, good but nothing special. Fantastic coffee. They now accept credit cards!

This place is quite delicious, we initially came in the lower haight area to go to nickies, however we didn’t make it in time for brunch and accross the street was this packed hole in the wall called Kate’s kitchen. We made our way there, put our name on the list and waited patiently. Once we sat down we ordered the mimosa carafe with orange and pomegranate, my fiancé got the corn beef hash with the onion biscuit which was delicious, and I got the breakfast sandwich and added sausage, everything was great we also ordered the hush puppies which were probably the best ones I had in sf, especially matched with the strawberry jelly and butter they have. All in all, great place, great atmosphere, great food and the waitresses are very friendly. We will be back :)

Very homey place to dine in. We came here early on a Saturday evening to catch dinner. I love the décor, and the diners seemed to be locals. The beet salad was good. Sliced beets, lettuce, lathered up in a creamy cilantro dressing sprinkled with some cheese. Added a side of salmon, but it wasn’t cooked all the way. Good thing I like sushi, so it was like eating seared salmon LOL. The paella didn’t really seem to have a paella identity. It had chunks of salmon, small grilled shrimp(almost bay sized), rice, and tomatoes. Reminded me of gumbo without the sausage and beans. Tasted like salsa with rice, in a good way. Not my favorite choice. We were a bit excited about the fried chicken, but disappointed. The breading was crunchy and tasty, but the overall dish lacked seasoning. I ate it the way it was supposed to, whole. My girlfriend got picky(literally!) and picked off the skin and breading(oh the agony!) and noticed that the chicken meat itself was not marinated. The beans were bland, however the mashed potatoes were creamy, moist, and had good flavor. My girlfriend likes her drinks sweet, and I like mine fragrant and not sweet. We both found the perfect drinks here. For her, the lemonade spritzer. I thought it was too sweet, even for a sweet drink, but it was tasty. Freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mmm. I had the herbal berry iced tea. Tasted like hibiscus tea with a hint of blackberry(or was it my imagination?). No refills on the drinks. Overall a bit disappointed, but on the positive side, the service was good. The server was very accommodating and polite. I may come back just because of the good service and neighborhood feel of the place and give some of the other dishes another try. We’ll have Kate’s on the radar for the brunch, which seems like what Kate’s is known for! The hush puppies looked good, but it’s not available on the dinner menu. FYI, the online menu’s prices are not up to date as of this review.

This place was GREAT! Some of these reviews don’t do it justice! I found this place as a «must go» on Haight and I’d have to say, I agree 100%. The food is not only delicious and inexpensive, but the portion size is waaaaay more than enough. The French toast-to die for, the hush puppies and pancakes were interestingly different and delicious. The service was also great. Erin was so attentive and nice and her recommendations were spot on! I’d highly recommend this pale to anyone anytime! Like the internet said… a must go on Haight!
