Kelly-Moore Paint Store

I just had the worst experience ever at this Kelly Moore outlet. The employee was so rude and condescending, I actually finally had to say, «You really don’t want to help me, do you?» He then refused to help me and I walked out. I have been using Kelly Moore products for 40 years, and this is the first time this has happened.

I work for a painting contractor in the city and the manager here, Vandana, is excellent at color matching. She should be everyone’s go to in the city. Quick, professional and friendly.

5 stars for a pain free experience with Terry. He even recommended types of brushes based on what i was painting. he could have just let me fail. great pricing & great service!

Been going to this store for over 20 years– considering its one of the 1^st KM in SF. The store and personnel are very knowledgeable of standards and products. They are always with a smile– love walking in and getting em ready for work–
They will get products and or equipment to me next day if given the proper time and I don’t–
Since I started my Buisness 5 years ago these guys are 1 of my hired guns!

Rodney is the main man. Walked in and he helped me out and gathered everything around the store in 5 minutes.
I dropped by to pick up some materials to fix up a dresser and was greeted by a jolly fellow, Rodney. He asked me what I was in for, my budget, made some recommendations, and had everything at the counter ready for me. He helped pack my things into my car and waved goodbye with such cheerfulness. Thanks Rodney!

I like working with Rodney Robinson the assistant store manager. He’s the best there in my opinion. Friendly, professional, fast, smart, and goes the extra mile.

If I pay more than other places I expect quality. I also pay more out of convenience because I live a block away.
I tried to return a spray paint can that stopped working and was two-​thirds full that I bought a few months prior. I would not have even cared but I really live just a block away. The sales person would not stand by their (defective) product! I just asked if he could swap it out and he wouldn’t. Lost me as a customer over a $ 5 paint can. Glad it was only a cheap lesson.

Grant was extremely helpful and patient. We came in with several ideas for pet projects without thinking them all through. Grant walked us through several options and ideas and provided excellent advice. What a great starting spot for two newbies trying to tackle DIY projects for the first time.

They carry a variety of paint but lack all tact and manners known to mankind. Zero customer service and I honestly felt that the inside sales agent… Grant was mocking me. All my business will go to Sherwin Williams

I really like this store. I know next to nothing about painting, but the guys who work here always give me really good & ernest advice. They have often guided me towards the less expensive foam brushes or primers rather than upselling me an expensive brush for my projects.

Very good customer service

There are only two types of experiences you can have when visiting the Kelly-​Moore on Divis. Which one will you have?
If you go there knowing exactly what you need, your visit will be quick, easy, and painless. It doesn’t mean you have to be the undisputed paintwork master; even if you’re a novice, if you go in knowing a little bit about what your project entails you’ll be fine. They say women like men with confidence, and this Kelly-Moore’s playing by similar rules.
If you go there under any other pretense, best of luck to you. Prepare to be dazzled, almost to intimidation, by the plainness of all your paint and paint accessory options. And don’t expect anyone to read your body language and stop over to offer some advice; you’ll have to flag someone down and hope they aren’t too busy to cater to your myriad of questions. Oh, and make sure your bank account is well fortified.
No matter which experience you have, all visitors will have the opportunity to cut through the lump of day laborers looking to handle your next paint project. If their presence has been a problem for you, rejoice as the shop now posts a rent-​a-​cop for an illusion of increased safety.

That parking lot is ridiculously small. Add to that a big ass truck trying to deliver paint and you end up with… no parking lot and a terrible neighborhood to try and find a spot.
Lots of contractors come in here. I was there in the middle of the day during the week, though — but that’s what it felt like. The point is for you to get in there, pick a color, pay, and get out. Don’t go there expecting someone to help design your room, hold your hand on your choices, or otherwise cater to you as a prima donna who wants Ralph Lauren textured paint in the perfect shade of aubergine on a shoestring budget.
All that said, my Ahoy Blue wall is bee-​you-​tee-​FUL! Thanks, Kelly Moore.

This is their slogan… I beg to differ.
First off let me say that the people who work here are pretty nice, so I can’t say anything about them. My problem is with the lack of PRODUCT that would actually support the Painter’s Paint Store mantra.
I am a professional painter with over 10 years experience, and this is BY FAR the worst paint store I have ever frequented. No, the swarm of day laborers do not bother me like the other reviewers, only the meager selection of supplies and sundries I need to do my job. Over the last few years, I have been forced to come here from time to time to get things for work and it seems like 90% of the time they don’t have it or don’t carry it at all. Real basic stuff, not some fancy glazes or faux finish tools, stuff like Bondo, paint brushes, or the actual paint, to name a few. Yes, actual paint, «we don’t have that particular base in», is what I’ve heard on more than a few occasions. Basic brushes frequently out of stock. Many times they have (helpfully) directed me to other hardware or paint stores in the area, but why don’t they stock up on the basics themselves? They’d make more money and have happier customers who wouldn’t have to make extra trips. Today I tried to get a stepladder which they didn’t even carry. Bummer…

Never thought I could give a paint store five stars, but the helpfulness of the employees here definitely made my life easier. I visited here twice, and both times the staff was incredibly attentive in a very positive way. I got excellent advice about painting a room, such as types of rollers, and on how to save money doing so – which gave me a lot of trust in their advice too. Aside from that, the paint is very high quality and the service is very quick.

Recently I found myself inspired to redecorate my room, and get rid of the vanilla walls that plagued it. Entertainment Weekly had conveniently come out with a 4-​page article about the décor on the set of «Cougar Town,» starring Courtney Cox, a show I’ve grown to love.
Long story short, I wanted the paint color used in the living room of the show, so visiting the color wall at Kelly-​Moore was in order.
I’m fortunate enough to live about 3 blocks from Kelly-​Moore, but have always hated the corner it resides on, because you’ll find a plethora of immigrant workers on the corner just waiting for someone to yell out «I need 2 painters!» Then watch as they all fight for who gets the job.
Let me clarify, I don’t hate immigrant workers, I don’t hate that they hang around on the corner all day looking for work. I’m not a fan of the snide remarks that are made as I walk by, minding my business. I’ve been thrown more lines there than an understudy in a high school play.
But back to Kelly-​Moore. As a woman, walking into a paint store can be intimidating and uncomfortable. Nobody walked up to me to offer me any assistance, so I immediately decided to play the part, and look like I knew exactly what I was doing. After about 4 minutes at the color wall, I emerged confident, turning to a sales guy asking him what the smallest can of paint I could get. He was a nice gentleman, helpful and not condescending at all. He was able to get me 2 quarts of «Zanzibar,» plus all my necessary utensils without making me feel ripped off.
I was able to finish the project myself in 2 days, but have now realized that my project needs more color and thus will be returning again for more paint.

After trying virtually every brand of paint out there in the universe (we’re first-​time homeowners who are busy making every mistake it’s possible to make, paint-​wise) I have to say that Kelly Moore Enviro Coat Eggshell is our favorite for walls and ceilings. It goes on thick and rich so you get really opaque, professional-​looking results even if you lack painting skills like us. A lot of the other hippie (low or no-​VOC) paints that we tried were watery and required a bunch of fixes later.
The store is not exactly a fun place to get creative decorating ideas; it’s geared towards professionals, but the plus is that it opens at 6:30 on weekdays. If you’re frantic and exhausted and in the middle of moving and painting and you need your paint at the crack of dawn, head over to Divis and have a good story ready to get past the day laborers. Or hire them, I guess.

Totally adequate. Nice selection of paints and brushes, everything you need around the house, and very convenient to have in the City. And on my way out a helpful fella offered to come paint my project for me. No thanks, but welcome and enjoy our country.
Parking sucks, and driving on Diviz is a risky thing to do.

Lemme tell ya a little somethin about paint fumes. If you inhale too many, you get not so bright like. Last week, I inhaled enough of them to drop my IQ down about 43 points, but with my place almost done and only the trim left to complete, all I needed was a nice dark brown and my project would be done. This sounded simple enough and so I woke up early and drove down to my neighborhood Delux Paint store and selected a Tobacco Brown (against the better judgment of my new friends at the paint store) as the store was closing for the weekend. And once back to the pad, wouldn’t ya know it… wrong brown.
Drats!!!
Since Delux was already closed, we needed a plan B and Kelly Moore was it. So we drove over and parked in their lot after fightin off a wall of Latin men offering their services. Thankfully I didn’t get any «chi chi» references or tongue wiggles here (see my North Hollywood Home Depot review). We then walked in to find a wall of colors and the PERFECT dark chocolate brown to help pull all of the colors of my place together and I was a happy camper once again. Yay! After about 5 minutes I was out the door and we were on our way back to the pad to lose a few more brain cells.
I still prefer the people that work at Delux better, but for a quick fix on a bad judgment call, Kelly Moore did the trick! :)

So, a good-​sized hole was punched into my wall by a friend and I freaked out! Searched the INTERWEB for how to fix drywall holes. It became my very first handyman home project! When the time came to paint my new handy piece of wall, I gave this paint place (only 1 block away from my home) a wall chip of the damaged wall so they could color match it. I had freaked myself out by reading stories about how impossible it is for stores to match the exact color, but when their paint dried, it was nearly undetectable. Can’t tell there was ever a hole or new drywall underneath (only thing saving this store from a 3-​star review). The acrylics dried fast and I painted my project in 2 days. Waahoooo!!!

I do not understand why the acrylic primer was more expensive ($ 9.56) than my color-​tinted acrylic paint ($ 6). Also, why is the front door locked before your closing time, and you make me go around into the sketchy back door in the parking lot?
The cute guy who helped me was unfortunately an airhead both when I dropped off my wall sample and when I picked up my paint (couldn’t write down my phone number correctly, even though I told him like 5 times) so I guess that makes him a perpetual airhead. I also asked him for advice on things I needed to make sure I did when painting, and he offered me none. Make sure you know what you are doing with your paint project and what you are looking for before coming here.
