I received a gift from the Kid Tech Toy Shop last year. I was insulted by the gift as it was called«Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?» Isn’t it obvious? HUMPH.(BTW, do you know what animal lives in a holt? Or what town super sleuth Nancy Drew lives in? Or what month more US presidents were born in? Or what a mazurka is? Or which sports field is the longest? What kind of freaky MENSA kids are these 5th graders anyway?) Recently, I went to the Kid Tech Toy Shop to help pick out a birthday gift for a 1 year old. We perused the puppets, puzzles and other fun and educational toys but went with a cute plush cow that mooed and had lots of brain stimulating toy bling like a mirror and a rattle. Woo! Baby Girl ended up ignoring her birthday gifts. What had captured her interest instead? A box of Kleenex. :)

This is a cool little shop and the owner is super nice. They have all kinds of erector sets and other brain building toys. I only wish they had more stuff.

these guys are great! like others have said, they have toys that actually teach kids things — but at the same time the toys are fun. for the holidays, i bought my nephew a kit to build an electric car that pops wheelies. i bought my niece an origami kit that will show her how to fold a bunch of different african animals. i bought the baby two toy robots whose heads, arms and bodies pop off and can be put together all different ways(and they are soft plastic but free of pthalates). i’m always looking for smart toys for my sister’s kids. i was so excited to stumble on this place. i wasn’t even looking for it when i found it — i was on my way from running errands to a friends’ house and had a few minutes to kill and decided to go in. i ended up buying basically all of the kids’ holiday toys this year at this place. that’s how good…

Another great local find! This newish toy store has a great selection for all ages. I was recently shopping for an almost four year old and I was surprised at all the cool toys you can buy for that age. I always assumed you had to be 8 or 10 to do the really fun stuff. I love that they try to stay away from all that bad soft plastic crap you see so often. Instead they focus on educational and scientific based toys, masked in the form of fun games, puzzles, magic and experiments of course. 3-D puzzles, kites, chemistry kits, and jewelry kits to name a few of their tempting options. The staff was really helpful, they even provided free gift wrapping. I highly recommend them for your birthday/holiday needs.

If you have children, grandchildren, siblings or family or friends with children, this is the store to shop for them. It really does offer the science stimulating toys that our children need as one of the reviewers put it «give a boost to one of childshood’s great gifts – curiosity» I have an 8 year old daughter who loves science and magic(very curious). She was so excited about the magic set that she saved her birthday money for this special toy. This stores not only provides a young child some alternative to T.V., but helps stimulate your young one’s mind with the selection of toys that you won’t find anywhere else. This will be our toy shop store for children’s gifts. Not to say the least, the young couple that run this store are innovative thinkers and have a child of their own so you can’t go wrong buying from them. It’s a pleasure to support the Alvarengas!

Passed by here the other day(was on my way to the Marsh), and wandered in … great little store, some fantastic toys that you won’t find in other places! Support your local stores, drop by and visit when you’re in the neighborhood :)

It was surprising to find this science/learning focused toy shop newly open in the Mission. A young couple have put their interest in science and business together to give a boost to one of childhood’s great gifts – curiosity. They are just starting out so the store isn’t full, but everything displayed is a kit or has educational value. Parents are sure to love having a non-traditional toy store in the neighborhood. Supporting new entrepreneurs like the Alvarengas is going to be a pleasure.(Personally, I bought models of a virus and a bacteria for a closet biologist).
