As of November 2015, King’s Café on Ocean Ave. is no longer in business. :( If anyone knows why or if they’ve relocated, please let me know!

I’ve been coming to this place for a while since I live in the neighborhood. It’s so good to have a super affordable food choices in the city, and most importantly, it tastes good. The staff are so friendly and always down to explain what they have for the entrée + sides picks. I love to support local business. I haven’t tried the bread/pastry section but my roommates love them. I tried the boba but it was alright. I’m more down for the food tho. The space is in a good size and I would totally get my dinner here to go whenever I don’t know what to eat!

The price for the food is exceptional. $ 17 for two entrée dishes and two drinks, not bad for a lunch within the bay area nowadays. I ordered the braised pork belly with pickled veggie in steamed rice. It’s not bad at all, they also gave me a side of string beans. The beans were on the colder side and it was a little chewy. Probably came from the trays they left out in the open for combo meals. But the meat were fatty and the sauce was pretty good. I also ordered the lemon tea. That drink was BLAH! It’s the honey they use, it has this sour plum taste to it, it just doesn’t go well with the tea and lemon mixture. Their first attempt was SO sour, I had to ask them to pour half out and just insert more tea. I think they tried to add more honey to my drink instead, thinking the sweetness to eliminate the sourness, but it just made it worst! Then they gave me another cup of just tea and honey, thinking I can manually adjust the drink to my liking. I took a sip of the tea and honey and sure enough, the unpleasant taste came from there so it’s got to be the honey or the tea they use. Needless to say, the whole drink was left untouched. However, I really appreciated their effort in their attempt to keep me satisfied. I will skip the lemon tea next time, their drink game is not on point, but I don’t mind revisiting for their cheap eats.

Last Saturday me and the boyfriend were on our own for breakfast. Got going around 10am and didn’t want to go far. Saw«Congee» advertised on the outside window and walked in. Told we could sit anywhere. The service was incredibly friendly. We had menus quickly. I chose the pork and preserved egg congee and the Chinese donut «Ah, you know how to enjoy Chinese food.» I was complimented. Yes. Yes I do. Boyfriend chose a chicken and rice dish. And there was tea. Good lord, I’d just come here for the hot tea, it was so absolutely delicious and full bodied. Congee was delicious and filling, the donut crisp without being too overly greasy. Boyfriend really enjoyed the chicken and rice he had. So much food and just barely finished it all. Paid at the counter and left, giving them a tip and the compliments«It was really, really good. Thank you.» I left smiling and full, the boyfriend left smiling and full, and hopefully they were left smiling as well. Totally recommend this place for breakfast. They probably do excellent lunch as well. Very nice, relaxed, Hong Kong style sort of place.

If you are looking for somewhere that has salty greasy and fatty food then this is the place for you. There were minimal options for food but I stayed because I trusted Unilocal(this is where I messed up) they had no fried rice the only choices were round oil drenched noodles or flat oil drenched noodles. I chose round. Then they had chicken or red chicken. I chose chicken. My chicken was cut so you got a sliver of bone in every bite. Yum. And the skin was moist with oil. Double yum. Anyways, I am not eating this it was a waste of money and I will never go here again. I would like to say that the lady at the front was nice at least they have something going for them.

Been here a couple times and they have good food hands down. Their food and drinks are an affordable price for students and they also provide wifi. Although, funny story… Before I sat down, I asked the lady what the wifi password was and she showed it to me. Then after ordering food, eating and sitting there on my iPad getting work done for about an hour, the wifi got disconnected. Then I looked up and the lady in the front counter looked at me and smiled. It felt like they disconnected the wifi intentionally. I guess they don’t want their customers to be sitting and feeding off of their wifi for so long… Lol. I couldn’t help but walking out giggling.

Ordered a Taiwanese minced pork rice(lu rou fan) and grabbed a pastry(Sweetheart cake). The cashier charged me twice on the rice, I didn’t even notice until my boyfriend pointed out as I was signing the receipt. The owner eventually voided the transaction but it’s still sort of sketchy. It says in their menu that the minced pork rice comes with soup but I didn’t get it. But I didn’t bother asking them for it. The minced pork rice plate was extremely salty, it is not up to quality compared to other restaurants that carry the same dish. I probably won’t visit again. On a good note, the sweetheart cake was pretty yummy.

YES… YES…YES!!! New spot in the area that I am finally trying. Every time that I have passed by the line was been out the door but today I finally got my chance. I walked right on in and the first thing I noticed was all the pastry items!!! The breads here are so good. Especially if you WARMTHEMUP!!! Of course I had to get a pork bun because that always tells me the quality of their products. I also got a THAITEA because it is just the BEST!!! I got here around 10 so there were only 2 other people here. The lady behind the counter was getting the food ready for the meals. I saw a couple of dishes already sitting out. I had hoped to great some food as well but it was not ready… hmmmm…if you open at 9am and I come in at 10 and there is no food ready… what does that say about the service!!! I mean, that does not go over well!!! I wanted to get some chicken sausage but it apparently was NOT available… that is disheartening. However, the items that did purchase wound up being very good. I think next time I will get a loaf of bread because I know it is going to be the BEST!!!

Clean and Spacious. Awesome restroom. Awesome backert corner. Quick easy menues. Fast FREEWIFI!!;) Definetly will have future Business meetings Here! Bobas, slush, and a kitchen for actual dine in food. This place is the Future of hipsters and old schoolers. Great friendly family Vibe. Free Tea is off the wall! Great taste! Wanted to dine in, but they packed my stuff to go. I told them just give me a plate and silverwear and don’t sweat it. Not far from my gym. Needed some fuel. Stomach is full. Generous Rice Portions. Fresh ingredients. In terms of Flavor, it lacks some real zing. But Hey its an honest attempt. Fried Calamari and Popcorn Chicken is Fresh, but lots of batter. Pop chicken has some flavor. Calamari is a nono. You want a Flavor expierence, Chopsticks Basil Chicken OMG! I gotta support all my local eat joints. I love food. This place King has massive Potential for Greatness!!;)

Good Chinese food that is very reasonably priced. I ordered the Chinese chicken and mushroom steam pot and it came with a heaping full of rice and soup and veggies for $ 5.99. Not going to get much cheaper than that! Their milk tea was surprisingly good as well, not too sweet and had a strong tea flavor(toppings are free). $ 10 min credit card charge. Will def be coming back :)

This has been my go-to place for lunch during my ½ hour lunch breaks for the past half year. And it’s about time I write a review because I have developed such fond feelings for this place. Their heart-warming hospitality in addition to delicious AND affordable food kept me coming back. It is not exactly a restaurant, café, or a bakery. It actually feels like a hybrid of all three, but with an added sense of «home.» Upon arriving at the register to order, you can either choose from their assorted prepared food, order off their paper menu, or even make special requests for your own creative order. If eating in the store, you are told to make yourself comfortable and you pay AFTERWARDS. They trust that you won’t run off, and I believe this has a lot to do with how satisfied I am with this business. You really let your guard down and eat to a full belly. Maybe it’s some strong business psychology, but it works! Some noteworthy points about the food: — If eating in the store, they give you their soup which has always tasted like traditional Chinese home-made soup with minimal MSG! — I usually pick from the prepared food which includes but isn’t limited to string beans, chow mein, fried rice, mapo tofu, and fried chicken drumsticks. I’ve also tried the pork chop rice. They all have just the right amount of flavor. All in all, I would definitely recommend King’s Café! If you’re looking for a place to grab lunch, get some work done, or chillax a bit after a meal with friends – this place won’t disappoint!

A small little restaurant/to go type style place with boba drinks and bread. I love their popcorn chicken, their steamed spareribs with rice and their milk teas are cheap! The place is very clean too. Worth checking out if you’re looking for something a little further from CCSF.

What’s not to like? Rice and noodles, baos and boba milk tea under one roof. Best of all, it’s very cheap and tasty! It fills my stomach without breaking the bank. If they stay consistent across the board with their offerings and price, I’ll be a regular in no time. I got the steamed chicken with Chinese sausage and mushrooms. Sure, there was lots of rice compared to the meat and veggies, but that was fine with me. It came with a side of soup and veggies. The jasmine milk tea was unexpectedly good. Sweetened just right and had a strong tea flavor, just the way I like it. It seems everything is made fresh.

This place offers a wide variety of items. The spot is pretty big in size. Inside you can order boba drinks, buy scratchers, to go food ready to pack, and sit down service. Boba drinks: so far I’ve only tried their regular black milk tea. Reminds me of a quickly’s version of boba which is ok since there’s no real great milk tea places within the area. Scratchers: a few months ago, they would sell a variety of scratchers but now the whole part is empty. Not too sure why. I believe they still sell lotto tickets. To go: There are a variety of chinese foods at the counter ready to be packed. From chow mein to chow fun, friend rice and mixed vegetables theres meat dishes and all sorts for to go purposes. Pretty convenient for fast asian food. Sit down service offers a full menu and also daily specials for $ 6.50! Convenient place on ocean avenue for quick asian food and decent taste.

Lots of baked goods off to the side — including savory & sweet items(which most are labeled as being from Suzanne’s Cake & Pastry bakery in Millbrae, CA). I’ve been hoping to grab several different types of veggie-friendly savory buns = though no success. Perhaps they run out prior to my visits? Their green onion bun is okay. Re: other flavors, I’ve gotten taro(YUM!), custard, pineapple, and others(hmmm I don’t remember!). Furthermore, this place has a great variety of delicious breads. Cheaply priced milk tea + free toppings(including boba)! I’ve tried their taro and Thai tea flavors… Not bad(though I’ve had better boba elsewhere — just sayin’). FYI… Reasonably priced. $ 10 minimum for use of a credit card. Fast & friendly service.

Went in the usual Spare Ribs over Rice and I noticed that they switched owners recently. Went in to the shop and was greeted by a different lady who was introducing me to the entire menu. I just went with the Spare Ribs over Rice which came with soup and vegetables. While I was waiting, I noticed that they opted in to allowing people to sit down and order off a full service restaurant menu. I got my order and I was very disappointed in the portions, I only had about five prices of Spare Ribs and was mostly packed with rice and broccoli. My food was also very bland when it came to flavoring. I noticed that the business has declined after the new management took over, but I really hope they improve on their portions and quality of the food. I might give them another try in some point in time.

King’s pretty much has it all: drinks, snacks, meals, seating, and WIFI! Their boba drinks are one of the cheaper options in the area, but they’re not as bad as I would’ve expected out of a cheap drink. My jasmine milk tea had a noticeable tea flavor and wasn’t too sweet. The boba was the right texture, as well. They’ve got a good variety of milk tea and tea options like honey green tea, rose milk tea, earl grey milk tea, and more. Their topping variety isn’t wide, but they’ve got the basics like boba and various jellies. They’ve also got an assortment of baked goods like cookies, buns, muffins, and other pastries. Since they’re pre-packaged, they’re not as fresh as I’d like. I’d rather get fresher buns elsewhere. My pineapple bun wasn’t the same fresh pineapple bun you’d find at Chinese bakeries. The bread wasn’t as soft and fluffy, and the topping was just a thin spread of sweetness rather than the usual sweet crust topping of pineapple buns. I’d pass on their pastries. For snacks, I got the popcorn chicken and won’t be getting it again. The portions are decent for $ 4.00, but the pieces were mostly batter instead of meat. The café itself is a bit small but nice and cozy. There are various booths and tables for larger groups. There’s also free WIFI and outlets, making it a nice spot for working. Props to King’s for their wide offering and convenience!

Free Wifi for customers Outlets everywhere Have booth style seating and also tables with chairs. Large arrangements of breads Decent selections of food The price is definitely affordable Purchased two milk tea: Mango milk tea with rainbow jelly was yummy! Peach milk tea with mango jelly had a weird taste to it, so I asked the girl behind the counter to replace it to the same one I had(mango milk tea) and she did. I’m glad. Went on a slow and rainy day(still here actually lol) I actually don’t know how busy it gets during the day since CCSF cancelled class today. Overall, If I live nearby, I would come here.

This is your one stop shop for a good, cheap hot meal, boba, coffee, and Asian bread. The hot meals are a new thing since I’ve been here, but I can honestly say that I love the food for the big portion sizes and cheap prices. They have a wide selection of individually wrapped pastries and buns, and tons of milk and non milk tea boba flavors. I came in today and ordered fried fish with a side of rice for only $ 3.95!(You can mix and match the entrée with either rice or noodles). My friend ordered a meal of steamed rice with mushroom, Chinese sausage, and chicken for under $ 6. It came with veggies and soup. We also ordered strawberry gt and honey gt without boba(cause we claim to be on «diets» mhmm), and they were made really well. Thanks David!

At first I thought this was a restaurant, given how big the entrance was, but it turns out this place is actually supposed to be a bakery, that also happens to sell chinese food on the side. What? I got the steamed rice, which was cheap(of course), and surprisingly good. It came with a side dish of pure steamed veggies(nice), a soup(flavorful), and the steamed rice itself, which had a lot of different toppings on top, and had a LOT of rice. The steamed rice tasted great, and you can tell it was actually prepared on the spot. Not sure how they made money on that! They also sell bubble tea – unfortunately the bubble tea is not their specialty. It was still pretty good though. Will probably go back for the steamed rice.
