Closed which is a shame because it was a cheap and exciting place to eat. You got to meet locals here and get an idea how city life was from different walks of life. this place will be missed.

This review has to be one of the most serious service & customer violations, I have yet experienced in my lifetime. Is there some substance in San Francisco’s water, which is making people so verbally harsh, violent, and abusive. Just take a walk down Market Street, from Van Ness Avenue to 4^th street, I promise you will have the opportunity to observe it or be accosted by someone. It’s a living Fellini movie.
On Tuesday, 4÷14÷2015, I had errands to finish for getting my 2014 taxes in by the Wednesday 4÷15÷2015. I first had to go to a copy store, then to the post office. All of this was done quite easily. I was really famished, as I hadn’t eaten breakfast that morning. I decided to just walk down Market Street– towards the Ferry Building, and see what types of restaurants & food «hit the spot.» I had passed the L & M Café, 1081 Market Street, SF, CA. It’s between 7^th & 6^th streets on South side of Market street. What an unbelievable bad choice for me! This whole experience should be an episode for the Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits. I know, I am «TV Carbon Dating» myself. Crazy, crazy, crazy, I am still trying to process what happened. I would sincerely suggest, if you are planning to go to the L & M Café, do not stop– just keep walking as fast as possible.
I read the menu, which was posted on the window of the L & M Café. I ordered the following:
a Patty Melt, 3 Pot stickers, and coffee with cream. The owner/​waitperson took my order in a couple of minutes. She appeared to be OK to me. This turned out to not be the case-​at all! She brought me my coffee & cream. I simply & politely asked, «Can I have some mustard for my Patty Melt?»
She went ballistic, and started to yell & scream at me. I had to pinch myself, in a vain attempt, to believe what was occurring. I was so hoping, there was a hidden TV camera & crew, who were filming this incident for a «Reality TV Show.» No such luck.
I was seated at a table, & she was standing over & in front of me. She yelled and shrieked about what I had ordered. It was nuts! Plus, she was totally «in-​my-​face.» Being originally from NYC, this is not a great verbal or non-​verbal position to apply to me. I admit, my response was just as rude. I was so taken aback, and in shock, by this unnecessary verbal violence.
If I would have had the wherewithal to videotape this experience at the L & M Café, I could have posted it on YouTube & Facebook. The video would speak for itself.
I had had the decency to pay first, which I did. It wasn’t an issue for me to pay first. In retrospect, I shouldn’t have. As in a nanosecond, I decided, the L & M Café was quite a negative, disturbing, and strange place to try to enjoy my brunch/​lunch. I left immediately, & I took two (2) pictures of the
L & M Café on my cell phone. I am attaching one with this Unilocal posting. What a waste of $ 7.50!

Breakfast all day long! Great place to go for nice and hot breakfast any hour of the day. Can’t resist their hashbrowns and eggs. Nice family owned place. Defiantly will stop by again.

Great for getting a quick American-​style Chinese fix.

Place run by a nice family. super small, cash only. I had breakfast here, standard breakfast. Like many places in S.F. no coffee refills. A slew of colorful characters came through.

Hella legit. It’s a hole in a wall place. Get here early if you want to avoid the sketchy customers. The L&M breakfast has great value and it tastes good. You’ll be paying $ 5 too. If you take out you don’t get the coffee. If you eat in you get the coffee with your meal. Elsewhere the same breakfast would cost $ 8+ easily. The hot cakes are one of the best I’ve had. Seriously! The texture is slightly chewy, but still fluffy and soft! I’ve been here twice and the breakfast quality has been consistent and solid. I gave them a try and was pleasantly surprised. Their cooking range is really small so be prepared to wait for at least 15 minutes if you put in approximately 4 – 5 orders. Note: my rating is strictly based in the food and my satisfaction with the goods. :)

They know how to cook bacon here. That in and of itself is worth 4 stars. The price point is good and I really like the couple that run this place, they are funny and always remember my usual order. Thanks for a bazillion breakfasts and hardened arteries!

For city dwellers, not hips or yups. Portions are on the small side but these kind of places will soon be gone so do your duty and support real places like this :).

I thought there was a 2 entrée 1 item place on this block … but I guess it closed down. Instead I came to L&M. Prices were not exactly cheap compared to other chinese places around the area. I ordered the beef chow fun. It was soggy and not as much food as i expected. Can’t really blame them however, because they dont seem to be getting a lot of business. Don’t know if i will be coming back.

This Mom and Pop is the to go place for down to earth, comfort Chinese and American food… Food here always reminds me of my childhood… Food is always fresh and tasty… just hits the spot for a full tummy!

Unilocalers knew what was up far sooner than I did — this unassuming spot in a sketchy part of SoMaLoin (like that?) is awesome. Run by a friendly husband and wife (I think) duo, they are making up cheap, hearty eats.
I was drawn in by the absurd $ 2.69 waffles, and I was a little amused when the guy pointed to Eggos. Hmmm, no thanks, I can make those. Instead I went with the $ 2.69 pancakes, one massive one for me, one massive one for someone in need down the street.
Lunch/​dinner fare includes a rather good chicken and zucchini stir fry, which wasn’t as greasy as expected, and again big enough to feed me and someone in need.
Rather impressed, and happy to be in the know with other Unilocalers.

Was wandering around SF during my lunch and came across this little place. Grabbed a number 25– BBQ pork with veggies over rice. Service was friendly; only two people were working which didn’t matter because I was the only person there. Six bucks for a meal that could easily feed two. The food was fresh, pretty tasty, and ready to go in about 5 mins. The veggies were a mixture of cabbage, onions, carrots, peas and corn.
The place is tiny, about three tables total, and feels a little cramped, so I got it to go. Was still hot when I got back to my office, and I had a bunch leftover. Great deal for 6 bucks.
Overall, its another one of those random little places where you can grab a good cheap meal in the middle of the day.

Sometimes you drag your ass out of bed and want as little interruption /​effort as possible between you and a $ 3 breakfast. Lord knows Mel’s is too far away, you’d end up dropping $ 20, and be sitting next to a guy with an invisible wristwatch staring at you and uttering mind bendingly explicit curses (true story).

Not great, but not awful, I have been going here for about 11 years, whenever I think my arteries can take one of their 2.00 breakfasts… This place is super cheap and greasy, and serves Chinese food as well… Cramped space with only 4 counter spaces and 3 tables.
