I just left this place today on 06/15/2016 and I use to like it until I realize my bank card went missing after making a purchase and eating in there. Typically if a person forgot their card at the register tou would think the people working there would let you know left it behind if you sticking around their place to eat. I left realizing my card was missing and an extra 13 dollar charge was added to my account. When I went back they said they did not have my card and someone could have taken it a made charge but my picture was on the debit card. The cashier made and offer to take the extra charge off when I told him to do so he made another about him having close his register to do that. I already blocked the card. I will not be returning back this place. I really needed that money to get to work the next few days before my next pay check.

My favorite burrito place in the city! Alesia(sp?) always makes me the best wet bean burrito. I don’t eat meat or dairy and I am always stuffed after one of their burritos. *if I can finish the whole thing in one sitting!* Unilocal needs to update their hours though, they are open to 2 am everyday, I believe? Working in the service industry, it’s nice to know I can grab a good quality burrito on my way home from work after a long night of serving food to others. I go there a little too much but, I’m definitely not complaining ;)

My breakfast burrito tasted like I made it. Literally. And that is horrible. Skip that at least. No flavor at all!!!

I like it here. You can tell the beans are fresh and the food comes out hot! I had the asada taco with horchata. Their horchata is bomb!!!

I used to love this place, but they recently began using mostly organ meat for their«grilled chicken». Disgusting! Also really oily. Unless you love slimy liver, heart and lungs, think twice.

Ok, I don’t know if I was just intoxicated, or if this was the best burrito of my life. Judging by this place’s Unilocal score, maybe it was the former. Regardless, this place hit the spot and made me fall in love with burritos all over again.

Wow! The workers here are unhappy. Obviously, sullenly unhappy. Unhappy to the point of hostility to customers. We have been eating lighter so going in for our old normal take-out order of heavy Mexican food should have been a treat. But, when we placed our order there was a real lack of acknowledgement or connection by the staff supposedly making what we ordered. I didn’t get the feel that what we wanted was understood or was going to be made. I let my husband do the ordering, because he’s better at ignoring disinterest. I went on to the cashier to pay. My attempt at small talk with the male cashier was a disastrous failure. Dead eyes. Then the bill was higher than it used to be. Okay, it’s been a while. But, I wanted to know how came to be that high(it was only $ 30)… what were the prices of the things we ordered. I was questioning, not challenging. But, the cashier actually said no, I had to pay first before he’d break down the bill. That was it. We left the food and went down the street to get our takeout. The restaurant had only a couple people in it at prime eating time, no line. It really felt like with the hostility and lack of diners that this place is on borrowed time. Too bad… it used to be our favorite.

Terrible. Their burritos are absolutely awful, with dry rice, undercooked beans, and(for my selection) unseasoned grilled chicken. I have thought about how shitty their food is and how they manage to stay in business. The only thing I can figure is that they have enough tourists coming through(who wouldn’t be back anyway) to support them. It is a tragedy that they exist.

I hadn’t gone here in a few years but I really crave their tofu meals so I gave them another chance. I went twice and everything was fine. But the next time, I saw the woman handling raw shrimp, and then she came over and put her bare unwashed hand in the bag of tortillas and asked me what I wanted. I said«Did you wash your hands?» and she said«What?» I again said«You touched raw shrimp, did you wash your hands after?» and she looked confused and said«What kind of tortilla you want?» I just walked away. I don’t understand what THEY dont understand about cleanliness & cross contamination?!

Came here after a night out in Castro. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo. It’s not your typical, authentic taqueria you’d find in Mission, but for $ 7 you get a huge burrito… and they’re open late! They moved pretty quick, too.

My favorite thing to eat late at night and when Im drunk is Mexican food. I came here late at night with my friends. We got the asada burrito… it was okay. salsa wasn’t that spicy and flavorful; and yes that’s important to me. IT was over $ 10 bucks for a burrito… My favorite Mexican food spot in SF is still El Farolito hands down.

This place overcharges like crazy. If you go late at night on a weekend they will assume you are drunk and will overcharge because they don’t think you’ll notice. This has happened to us on more than a few occasions. Doesn’t matter how good the food is, we will not be coming back here again. Shady business going on.

We came here due to the fact that we were in Castro late at night and my fiancé didn’t want to go to the mission to get some Mexican food :/, bummer I know, however we found this place and figured, how bad can it be? This place is a «Mexican version» of Chipotle, all the meat is already made(and it sucks), the al pastor which was in the corner on the verical rotisserie seemed to be drier than California during the drought(pretty nasty). Anyhow my fiancé ended up getting the fajita burrito and I got the super burrito, the staff were fairly rude(and I’m usually not one to complain). Once sat we unravelled the burrito and experienced what could possibly be the worst Mexican food I have ever had, the beans were so drenched in water that the bottom of my burrito was soaked, the meat was flavorless and below subpar, the only thing this place has going for them is the size of their burritos. If I could go back I wish I would have walked that extra half of mile to go to the mission and get some great Mexican food, so do yourself and favor and walk those extra few blocks.

Standard Mexican fare that’s pretty cheap too. Not bad for a quick stop if you’re super early for an event at the theater or if you’re in the neighborhood and just want something quick and casual. The offerings are pretty average, and they’re prepared pretty quickly. Perfectly average.

I came here because I was desperately craving Mexican food after a gym session, and I had never tried this place before. Coming to La Tortilla made me crave Taco Bell. Seriously. Worst Mexican food I have ever had. I mean, sure the place is clean, the menu has variety, and the service is decent. My friend and I ordered tacos and horchata. Both were mediocre. The meat was flavorless, and the horchata tasted artificial. Would not recommend, even if you are horrendously drunk!

Experiences are errrrythang! The cashier, cook & busboy were very rude to me & my friends. We came in late night, right before we went to go dancing, my friends ordered some drinks, one was taken/bused from the table… my friend asked for another & at first they denied him one, arguing with us that he was lying and that a stranger took it, but someone did clear his table & tray, yet they denied that. I wish I could have said all of us were crazy, drunk & we were over-reacting, but I actually don’t drink, I’m coming from a very sober perspective. In any case, I had the shrimp tacos and fish tacos and both were a 2. The shrimp tacos were made out of the small, frozen shrimp and riches not that good. All it had was lettuce in it. The Fish taco I had was a slab of fish & lettuce in it, as well. That’s all I had, and that was my experience, so I’ll never come back.

Good like always, my quesadillas with corn tortilla, mushrooms and cheese ate so good! No greasy and generous amount of cheese and mushrooms. Only one critique, is a new guys here, checking the amount of everything. The difference is just a little. I don’t know if they are trying to reduce the budget but this practice in Castro, area full of rich and class media bitches is not good!

The food at this place wasn’t too bad — we got the mole. I probably shouldn’t get mole and review it considering I am convinced my mom makes the best in the entire world LOL. Nonetheless it was good — better than other mole I’ve had here in Las Vegas. The guacamole was a little on the brown side but the tomatillo was the freshest I’ve EVER had. It was great. The rice and beans were a little too dry — I always had to wash it down with my beer. I wouldn’t mind coming back to this place for the food — however I gave it two stars because the staff was stupidly unfriendly and no matter how good your food is, service is what always determines whether I go back or not. We aren’t from San Francisco — we were visiting from Las Vegas, celebrating our anniversary — and the staff seemed to have no patience with us when we weren’t sure what kind of beers they had or what sides came with what food. Won’t be returning unless we absolutely want Mexican food and this is all that’s around.

We’ve actually been here several times over my Unilocal years; usually before or after a Sing-a-Long at the Castro Theatre. After BARTing and MUNI-ing over we had just enough time to grab a quick bite before our movie started. We were lucky to place our order before the line started growing. I got a Chicken Fajita Burrito – with pinto beans, rice, grilled chicken and grilled onions and peppers. I added cilantro, onions and salsa. A little messy to eat since there wasn’t much filling and iasrt wasn’t rolled tightly and wasn’t wrapped in foil or paper. I seem to recall the burritos being bigger on earlier visits. Mr Rinky wanted to get a veggie burrito but they ran out of vegetables(other than onions, peppers) except for broccoli – so he had a broccoli, bean, rice burrito on a whole wheat tortilla. He said it was okay. Not sure if we’ll eat there again next time we’re in the Castro. I guess we’re spoiled by the places in Richmond or our SF and San Mateo fave, Pancho Villa.
