LOVELOVELOVE this place! I came here to see my friend perform and was NOT disappointed in the slightest. Here’s the deal: Classy, sultry and sexy burlesque dripping in sequins every second Thursday of the month. I love love little Minsky’s– it has some of the best vintage burlesque in SF in an intimate setting. The emcee on the night I went, Alotta Boutte, was perfect: witty, funny, classy and had the most gorgeous singing voice. The crowd was very mellow AND brightly arrayed in feathers, sequins, lace and crystals– I’ve finally come home! ;) Who wouldn’t like seeing talented musicians and singers, witty performers and beautiful woman parade about an intimate space? I, for one, am definitely NOT complaining. The staff was friendly and very sweet. In addition, the drinks are stiff, strong and cheap. Lovely! Here’s a tip: Get there early if you want to get a good seat! I managed to squeeze myself in a corner somewhere, but the acoustics off the main room tend to be not as good. My favorite line of the evening: «It’s not a walk of shame, it’s a strut of victory!» It’s funny because it’s true. ;)

I’m a big fan of Minsky’s! Although I’m a relatively seasoned performer, I tend to be VERY critical of other performers and showcases. Douglas Good books out of state(and sometimes out of the country) acts that can only be seen there. I recommend getting on the mailing list to find out what’s coming up on the second Thursday of each month to make sure you don’t miss something unique and exciting. Also, Club Deluxe is a fun bar(been my preferred bar of choice for many years) with a retro aesthetic. The Vodka/Gin Spa drinks are fun and I’ve had a few great Manhattans there as well.

I loooooove this night. Front row– cocktail in hand, man on my arm, while sexy ladies in sequins shake it with a smile– the variety show is back! I have been coming to it and inviting scores of people since my arrival in SF in Jan. The musicians, dancers, and hosts are all of a high caliber. Such talent and enthusiasm! I am always left entertained, inspired, and titillated. And with a 5 dollar cover and cheap drinks– it is a deal and a half. Thank you Flying Fox– you sparkly pillar of grace and sexy event coordinating! Sad side note– last month, I arrived very early to get a good seat– seating is tough and I have learned my lesson. I went to sit down in the flock of open chairs only to be told by a tart in a yellow tube top that the ENTIRE section was reserved– for her friends. We are talking 80% of all the chairs in the place! She explained with quite the tone in her voice– that she is performing tonight and so she needs them, so you know– run along. I must admit– my temper got the better of me. I STOOD and glared at her and her chairs– that remained empty for two hours! As a performer myself– I can not imagine being rude to anyone who has paid money to come see my show. Not classy and rude– Missy Tube top dress– you suck.

If you like your cocktails strong and your burlesque classy this is the place for you! The best vintage style burlesque SF has to offer! I’ve only missed one show in the two + years this show has been going on! And it’s always great! I’ve seen performers from all over the the U.S.-NY, Key West, Minneapolis, LA, Seattle! And even some from Europe and beyond. Very intimate club, great bartenders, and great venue staff! Make sure you check it out! It’s only on the second Thursday on the month though.
