Went to Live Sushi Bistro to check out the local sushi scene and to fulfill that craving for shrimp tempura. The bistro is inside of an «office-type building,» with a long hallway leading into the restaurant. Bar and sushi prep counter directly across from each other, very spacious/roomy. Sushi was okay. Staff could be friendlier and a bit more inviting.

Do not order delivery from this place! We ordered few rolls via grub hub. We were initially informed that the foods will arrive in one hour. We didn’t get the foods even one hour and 30 min after.

Good neighborhood Sushi spot for take out. Staff is friendly and the fish is generally good.

Though the staff seemed really nice and delivery was punctual, the Island Poke I ordered was terrible! I had about 4 edible cubes of tuna and the rest were thin, sinewy and impossible to chew. Some pieces still had silvery skin on them. It was also way over-marinated. And my rice had a tiny fly crawling around in it.

ok place to grab a quick bite for lunch if you’re craving sushi, BUT there are better sushi spots in SF however, this one is close if you work in SOMA and are heading to lunch.

I’ve ordered from them twice and they delivered good food within an hour. Not super amazing but no complaints.

4 options for special vegetarian sushi(which is a lot). Loved all of them, favorite was the veggie caterpillar roll. We ordered 8 rolls for 4 us and it was very filling. The area is a little shady but I walked there during lunch so not so bad! It was crowded up until 1:30 on a Thursday, which is when we got there so it was completely empty Definitely recommend this hidden gem for vegetarians. Can’t wait to go back!

Went here with a friend who lives in the area. Really delicious rolls that were very fresh. I especially liked the spicy scallop hand roll.

Wow! Went with The Live Sushi combo for lunch. Miso, salad, 6pc spicy tuna roll, 6pc nigiri, 4pc sashimi. All excellent! Solid value in quality vs price.

Love this place for friendly and fast delivery. The fish is always fresh and I love how it’s still warm when it gets to you(Like it’s supposed to haha). Anyways, I might dine in one day and will update.

In the mood for sushi yesterday, we made a return visit to Live Sushi Bistro which was conveniently only a few blocks away. We had only had takeout from here before but it had been good at the time. We went in the early afternoon so there was basically nobody in there except us. The menu has a respectable amount of variety on it, especially for the rolls, which is what we came for. We ordered the SFPD, SFFD, Romeo and Juliet and then we like the SFPD so much that we ordered it a second time. The SFFD and Romeo and Juliet were both good, but not great. The SFPD roll definitely has us wanting to come back for more. We also tried some sort of deep fried unagi nigiri. I liked it a bit more than my companions did, but I do agree with them that the unagi slice they used should have been thicker to keep the breading exterior from overpowering it. Overall, this is likely to be our go to sushi spot in the future. The acceptable quality, decent pricing and most importantly their good location makes me say that«I’m a fan».

This place consistently delivers me the best sushi lunches and dinners! I’ve loved all the rolls I have tried, which at this point is almost all of them. My fave is the live sushi combo w nigiri and sashimi. They are always on time, great packaging and everything is fresh and great quality. I have never eaten at the restaurant but have driven by… Definitely seems like delivery is better than dining-in. go to’s: Short rib Chicken karaage Seaweed salad #29 roll Live sushi combo Crazy monkey Romeo & Juliet

Looks lame, tastes lame. Chefs are Chinese not Japanese. That’s why they don’t know how to make good Japanese food. Won’t come again.

Officially off of our client menu list! It was never my personal choice of choosing this place to eat, but it is my personal choice to remove them from our food order rotation. They’re always late, the food is always mediocre, and today was the worse, the deal breaker. Our sushi came today drenched in soup broth, not edible. My spicy tuna roll was disgusting tasting in either event. Will never order again. We requested a refund. When your food comes drenched in soup broth an apology would be nice, not an «oh»

Yum, we just ordered from here tonight. Salmon teriyaki, rock n roll, tempura ramen and a free wakame salad. It was delivered in the time stated and everything was packaged nicely. DS loved the rock n roll and DH commented on the salmon being really good — he’s usually tough to please! We will definitely order again.

Really enjoyed my meal here! Great friendly service and yummy food. Don’t be dismayed by the surroundings. Right across the street is a police station so bail bond shops are everywhere. I recommend the Ten Zara soba. It was cooked just right and even came with little pickled cucumbers too. I really enjoyed the rolls, Citi Roll and Bistro Roll were both great. Definitely will be back, or order takeout/delivery from here when I get lazy.

We ordered delivery from here when our favorite places were closed(it was mid-day). That turned out to be a big mistake. I got the crazy monkey roll, viper roll, and crab Napoleon. They were barely edible, smelled and tasted bad, I are a few bites and threw the rest out. When all three dishes are bad, it says something: the place sucks.

This place is a hidden gem. There are many superficial signals that say it shouldn’t be good, but the food delivers in a major way. Ignore the fact that one entrance sits between two bail bonds storefronts. Don’t pay any attention to the(lack of) décor in the restaurant. Don’t be dissuaded by the fact that on a Saturday night at 8, you might be one of two parties in the restaurant(in fact, if you’re looking for sushi on a Saturday night, that might be a plus). If I hadn’t already had their sushi delivered, I would have turned around and walked out. But we’d had the sushi before, and double checked that the same unique items were on the menu, and was heartily rewarded for ignoring the superficial and getting down to business with some sushi! We had so many good items: crab napoleon, really well-prepared and balanced rolls, and fresh sashimi. I’ve had great sushi all over the world – NYC, Tokyo, Torrance CA – and this place definitely measures up. Like I said, the ambience is lacking, so I’d give a 4.5, but the food was so good I had my eyes closed half of the time so it was right back to a 5.

I love this place! Food is really good, one of the freshest spot for sashimi and I love their California roll, it’s so tasty! Their service is really friendly too-very attentive. I will always come back here since this is my favorite sushi spot.

I bought a certificate for this Live Sushi Bistro and used it last night for a late night sushi dinner. This place is tucked away across from the Jail, between bail bond shops and in an alley. The menu is extensive with all kinds of Japanese dishes. The employees are mostly Chinese and the service was good. The food however was less then stellar. Here is what we had: Mixed Tempura 4 stars good portions lite not greasy Crab Napoleon 4 stars interestingly put together layered crab and fish Ama Ebi 5 stars fresh small and tasty best of the night Hamachi Kama 2 stars nicely grilled but the Ponzu sauce was some kind vinegar concoction. Hamachi Passion 0 star What was that? sliced Hamachi, avocado, and slaw on top 16 pc Sashimi 2 stars only the Salmon and the Halibut were good, bone in one of the pieces. Black Cod 0 stars Not fresh, small slice, kinda sour taste, dry and stiff. Overall, there are some things that are good to order and some things you really shouldn’t order.
