That’s too bad, I was just craving their sushi cupcakes. :(

Ohhhh how did I just discover this wonderful place in my most beloved neighborhood in the city?(It’s the marina) I stumbled into this place after a wholly disappointing trip to Zushi Puzzle down the street, and was welcomed by Sake Bombs. If that doesn’t put a smile on your face after a bad day(or meal), I don’t know what will. This place offers you: 1) loud music(to drown your feelings in) 2) sake bombs(also to drown your feelings in) and 3) all you can eat sushi on sunday’s, because who doesn’t love that? Their sake bombs are also served with Ace Pear Cider instead of the usual beer. The pear cider is so much better! And at $ 4 a sake bomb, it’s easily the cheapest«mixed» drink you can get in the area. Anyway, this place is great. It’s a lounge-like environment, so come here with a few hours to spare. Mas Sake gets a little rowdier as the night goes on, but that’s just in true Marina fashion. Also, I don’t need to recommend it again, but I will. Try the sushi cupcakes. It deserves all the hype. And for all you sushi snobs out there, come with a sense of humor. It’s Mas Sake, not Ippuku or Tataki. Give it a chance.

Sushi meets bar meets the marina. I’m not sure how else to explain it. Mas sake has some crazy sushi rolls and with the lounge feeling, it’s not out of ordinary to hear people shouting and doing sake bombs. It’s great for big groups but just remember to make a reservation and tell everyone it’s actually 20 minutes earlier than it really is since they usually won’t seat you until your entire party is there.

This place is great for a gathering of big groups! Went here to meet up for a girls night extravaganza and during the time I came I saw 4 other big groups seated comfortably minding their own. We got seated right away which was perfect and got tended to the minute we walked In which added more pleasure in the experience. I do fancy their house sake paired with the saporro. The sushi was so so. It wasn’t the pairings but the rice in general. It wasn’t on point that day. All in all we had about 6 house sake and 4 good size rolls totaling it to about 120 $! NOTBAD at all…

Started at the bar for happy hour 6−7pm. ½ price apps and drink specials. I then continued the party and sat in the lounge area for a birthday party. Tight space for 19 people, but we made it work. Glad everyone knew each other and we were comfortable being on top of one another. Ordered the chicken pot stickers, spicy tuna roll, fried rice, and a round of sake bombs! First time doing a sake bomb and definitely fun to do with a big group of people. Rolls were delicious and the fried rice was the bomb!!! Now for the 5 stars… the DJ was off the hook! Best music! Whole party couldn’t stay seated and we were up dancing and shaking our boootay! Great time. I will definitely be back again soon! PS. Guys: lots of young cute bartenders and waitstaff to check out cause they are barely wearing anything if that is your thang!

I came to Mas Sake for my bday with some friends a couple of weeks ago. The place is definitely fun, with music, a lot of people standing, not your usual japanese restaurant, but a good time. The service is not the best, the staff is a little slow, but the food is good! It gets very crowded, and people will approch your table to talk, so it can be interesting. I definitely wanna try it again.

Mas sake is a lot of fun to go with a big group of people because it gets really crowded so you kind of need to make yourself stand out(not my thing). Also, the girls that work here are bishes to the nth power! I gave them 3 stars and not less because it is a fun place to party!

Surprisingly good sushi rolls, sashimi was OK). Satisfactory sake list(at least it wasn’t just hot vs cold). Super loud music, high energy, bro-tastic. I wouldn’t take my parents here, but was great for a friend’s bday party.

Came for sushi and sake bombs for a friends birthday– aka what everyone does when they come to Mas Sake. The sushi was bomb and the sake was great and we had so much fun. The atmosphere there is like a party. And the waitress was really helpful and gave us a little bit of everything instead of having us order. My only complaint was that they only accepted 4 credit cards for our whole 14 person group. Really inconvenient and some people got stuck paying $ 120+. Since EVERYONE in there is in a huge group, seems like they should allow for more cards. It was also pretty expensive but that was expected.

I have had a multitude of great experiences at Mas Sake. I enjoy their sushi, and the friendly /energized environment has me returning every so often. I have a rather busy schedule, however when a couple of my friends or myself have one of «those weeks» we decide to head up to Mas Sake from Palo Alto. Yes we have great sushi here, but that environment is loaded with energy and fun memories. I would have given it 5 stars, however the place is simply packed everytime we go. I dont mind, except for when we come hungry, and there are patrons waiting for tables at the bar, while the bar can be used to serve others meals. This time the wait was not too long, and when you’re with a fun group time flies. When we got a spot at the bar it was great food and a lively atmosphere that had me taking pictures. The Bartenders and the wait staff are friendly, lively, and definitely easy on the eyes. But the greatest reward is when you find yourself essentially having a party with the Bartenders, in our case. These ladies should be throwing mega parties, cause in such a small place they had people dancing, laughing, and wondering what they were gonna do next! Alas I we had to go back home, and be productive. So Until the next time Thank you Mas Sake for a great time!

**************************** REVIEW917 ******************************** It got crazy on a Friday night, a guy tried to do a split in his tight metro-sexual designer denim! Good luck with that, and I’m a ballerina! I definitely don’t fit in here :-) This Marina place is too cool for a Silicon Valley chic like me. My date and his friends hang out here, should I be worry?! Decent drinks, hot bartenders(girls of course!)

I don’t understand why anyone would come to Mas Sake. Once is enough for me. The food was neither good nor cheap. The interior of the restaurant felt grimy. We were the only group here for the first half hour on a Thursday night, so there wasn’t much of a party going on. We ate under red lighting while club music blasted in an otherwise quiet restaurant. Sushi looks terrible under red lighting. * Sake bombs — $ 7 each Pear cider with option of hot or cold /filtered or unfiltered sake. You only get a medium tumbler of pear cider, which isn’t really deep enough to drop the sake into. I’m not sure they qualify as sake bombs without a large glass of beer. They were really just super sweet sake cocktails. * Various cocktails — $ 10 each On the level of average club or dive bar cocktails. They’ll do the job if you’re trying to get drunk but don’t taste that great. * Sweet potato fries — $ 6 Probably the best thing we had. * Jalapeño hamachi — $ 13 Fish quality wasn’t great, but the jalapeño masked it somewhat. * Chicken potstickers — $ 9 * Edamame — $ 4 Standard and bland. * Spicy rock shrimp — $ 10 Didn’t really like the glaze, which was more sweet than spicy. * Sushi cupcake — $ 12 The tagline«a little bite of heaven» was definitely an overstatement. Comments about the rolls below apply to the sushi cupcake too. * Rolls: Three Amigos roll($ 10), 49er roll($ 12), Ecstasy roll($ 12.50) The rolls were poorly constructed and falling apart. The fish was not particularly fresh. The flavors were overall bland, and I could barely distinguish each roll from the next. Even the wasabi had no kick to it. I’ve never had such weak wasabi in my life. As an additional point of annoyance, the kitchen put all the rolls ordered by people from opposite sides of the table onto a single large platter. We had to figure out how to split the rolls ourselves. Service was adequate. The bartender was really nice. The server was also nice, but she appeared constantly confused. One of my friends is allergic to sesame and nuts, and the server kept mis-remembering that my friend was allergic to soy and brought us incorrect information about which dishes my friend could not eat several times. That could have ended badly if we hadn’t caught her mistake. On top of that, a 20% service charge was added to our bill for a party of 7. I’m pretty sure 18% is the standard gratuity rate for large groups around here. Nothing about the service warranted a 20% tip.

Mas sushi! WOW. Let me just say that I think our table ordered every item we possibly could off of the menu. Plates kept coming and coming. The service here was fantastic. I mean, the place was literally packed, every table was full and our server was super attentive and we never had an empty glass or plate. The Effi-licious rolls were amazing if you are looking for something for a veggiesaur and teh Ecstasy rolls are a hit for you sushi lovers. Really cool atmosphere!

The waitress told us «This is more of a bar and not a sushi place.» She was right on too. Even though they have food it’s a place where recently 21ers go and get drunk. There was a Pretty Woman moment with a couple of waitresses walked by wearing black versions of Julia Roberts street dress. Yep, it’s that kind of place. «Sake» is in their name so one would think they’d have a lot of good Sake. Nope. They have one good option. Noise level was a 10 out of 10. Gave them 2 stars because we did get sushi and didn’t get sick off of it. But hey, if you want a bar to drink at with pretty waitresses that dress like the Vivian Ward character(beginning of the movie) then this is your place! Sushi Puzzle is just down the street. Go there for sushi and skip this place if you’re really wanting sushi.

Came here with a girlfriend using a deal I had purchased for dinner on a Tuesday evening. This place is supposed to be sushi with a Mexican flare, which basically translates into spiced up sushi. Did I mention I love spicy food? Well I do. We ordered: Edamame Jalapeño Yellowtail Sashimi Ecstasy Roll The Crazy Coutney Roll The Nikki Boom Boom We were very pleased and thought everything we ordered was tasty. I was in love with the Jalapeño Yellowtail Sashimi which came out first. I’m no sushi expert, but we both really enjoyed it so I’m not sure whats up with some of these negative reviews. The price is a little steep, but its sushi and its the marina, what do you expect? I will be back.

I had a gift certificate here that was dated back to 2009. I finally decided it was time to take it off the fridge and use it. The bartenders are really cute and sweet, I really like them. The food. meh — there’s a good happy hour for beer, but be warned their sake is marked up heavily. Their garlic beef is overly sauced but not in a good way. Their sweet and spice rock shrimp was tolerable, the deep fry was good, but the sweet sauce wasn’t and their sashimi just flat out isn’t fresh. I’m probably not going back, but it was a good use of my gift certificate with my fingers crossed I wouldn’t end up with food poisoning.

Mexican and Japanese fusion? This I had to try… Our party of three came here Wednesday night at around 7:45pm. We were seated immediately. I read a couple reviews stating that they thought atmosphere was similar to that of a club, but I guess that only happens on the weekends. We started out with their House Specialty Sake Bomb which was made with raspberry cider and a side of hot sake. I wanted to try it since it was recommended by many Unilocalers. The verdict? The cider was delicious but you couldn’t taste the sake at all. SIDES/APPETIZERS: *Sweet Potato Fries — Yum! The sweet potato fries were deep fried to a slightly crispy exterior and was accompanied by a delicious wasabi aioli sauce. Don’t overdip your fry, the sauce does have a slight kick. *Chicken Potstickers — Good. The potstickers were similar to gyozas and served with a vinegar soy sauce. *Cucumber Salad — Pass. Although the menu says the cucumbers were marinated, they didn’t taste like it. It looked as if cucumbers were sliced and placed in a bowl and sesame seeds were sprinkled on top. Oh yeah, the cucumbers were room temperature and not cooling at all. ROLLS: *Jess’ Favorite Roll — Interesting, but not great. The contained Cajun shrimp(which wasn’t spicy), crab and avocado. In addition, it also contained tomato, cilantro, jalapeño(didn’t taste it), spicy chili sauce(didn’t taste it), and a preserved lemon(didn’t taste it). The mix was odd. *Hotate Roll — Good! Raw, marinated scallops, cucumbers, and chili sauce was the middle portion of the roll. The scallops were tender, delicious, and not fishy at all. *Crunchy Roll — Yum. Shrimp and cucumbers were enclosed in the middle of a sushi roll with tempura flakes and sauce drizzled on the top. It also comes with roe(fish eggs), but since I’m not a fan, we asked for it on the side. BOTTOMLINE: Interesting concept, but the two really shouldn’t be fused together and I probably wouldn’t be back. Pricing point is expensive; our bill came out to $ 155 before tip. SERVICE: Okay. Our waitress was nice and made recommendations when we didn’t know what to order. However, she did disappear a couple times, once for when we looked for her because we didn’t receive one of our rolls. PARKING: Metered street parking. Since it was a weekday, we found parking immediately. However, I believe on the weekends, parking can be a bit more challenging since the bars and lounges are only two blocks away.

We be clubbin… or at Mas Sake. The word that keeps coming to mind is BLARING. The music engulfs you as you enter this little sushi haven. But I’m not sure how I feel about it… Since I don’t originate from The City by the Bay, the lure of this place are the $ 4 Pear Cider(which used to be Raspberry) Sake Bombs. Cheap and delicious, just how everything in life should be. The ambiance is club-esque, dark and mysterious. I don’t have any complaints about the food. I’ve actually enjoyed the appetizers and rolls that I’ve ordered. This past weekend, I branched out of my norm and paid homage to my G-men and ordered the World Series roll — this did not disappoint, it was devoured by the table in less than 5 minutes. Be ready to pay club prices for food & drinks. This is a good«once-in-a-while» spot mainly for the atmosphere, NOT for the service. Warning: Don’t order the mojito and make a res if you can…
