Food and service was outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed the escargots, halibut, seafood special. Finished with a nice cheese platter. All was excellent and will definitely return. Prices are reasonable especially considering the quality of food. Exceptional value!

Very similar to Le Charm, and that’s a good thing. Duck confit and beef ravioli were both outstanding — tasty, textured, and delicious. Nice live music on the patio. Good low key place.

I can’t say I’ve ever gone out of my way eat French food, simply because I’m unfamiliar. If all French food aligns with what Mathilde French Bistro has to offer, then sign me up! The flavors go well beyond your taste buds’ standards. Appetizers to main courses to desserts, all you can think is it can’t get better — but it did — for all 15 of us! Our private party was tucked away in the outdoor, covered patio beautifully lit and decorated for an intimate setting. The staff only enhanced the experience. To put it simply, I’ll be back … even though it’s over 3000 miles away.

Mother’s Day Brunch 2016 — party of 7 — Very charming French bistro — open for Brunch on Sunday(looks like they have a large room in back for regular diners, on one that can be reserved for a large party). Low noise level for easy conversation. Rating is somewhere between a 3 and 4. A ten min walk to ATT Park. Waiter was helpful and had a french accent. Started with bottomless mimosa’s, coffee(they have wine and beer available) and a very tasty basket of warm biscuits. Food was ‘solid’(except the French toast was a bit soggy/milky, the salad on the plates had no interesting seasoning in the dressing) but not exceptional. We ran the gamut of the ‘eggs benedict’ dishes — eggs were perfectly prepared. Extra points for being able to book a Mother’s day brunch two days in advance within walking distance of ATT Park.

Came here with the bf and his family for an early Mother’s Day celebration on Saturday night. Had reservation so we were seated right away! The layout of the restaurant was so cute ! The restaurant itself wasn’t as big but it continued to an outside seating with a huge tent draped over it making it seemed like it was still part of the restaurant and with heat lamps so you never feel like you’re even sitting outside ! There were candles on every table so the lighting was dim and romantic ! Service:(5 stars) Our waitress was this really perky cute French lady with a strong French accent!(Turns out she just moved here 6 months ago!) forgot her name but she was very accommodating and checked in on us occasionally and asked us if everything was ok. Even when we ran out of the bread for our foie gras, she immediately noticed and went right away to get more ! Now, onto the food !!! ^__^ For appetizers: — Black Angus Beef Carpaccio($ 12): very tasty ! Beef was nicely sliced and seasoned. Loved the arugula and Parmesan pairing!(5 stars) — Roasted Bone Marrow with sea salt and bread($ 16): not really my kind of dish cause it was kinda fatty and bland but the bf loved it and said there was a good amount of bone marrow. Came with a really salty and vinegary salad too(4 stars) — Foie Gras($ 21): LOVEED the taste of duck liver! So much flavor and paired with this crust-less toasted bread was just delicious! portion size was big for one order! Bf thought it was too heavy but I loved it(5 stars) Main Entrees — Pan Seared Day Boat Scallops($ 29): scallops were huge in sizes and perfectly cooked! Your teeth just sinks in with every soft bite! And the mash potatoes with spinach was a great addition. Only thing I didn’t enjoy was the Provençal tomato sauce under all the food… It was a bit too sour and overpowering in flavor that I had to push most to the side.(4 stars) — Duck Leg Confit($ 28): bf’s eyes lit up and went cray cray when he saw that on the menu! Thank god it was just as good as he anticipated ! He devoured the whole thing! The duck confit was just delicious! It came with the weird salad which we didn’t eat but the potatoes were amazing with it; soft and moist. So filling(5 stars) — Flat Iron Steak($ 23): nicely made medium rare. very chewy. Came with a side order of fries and aioli sauce. Flavorful and filled up the bf’s mum.(4 stars) Overall! Service was superb whoever you are French lady that came to America 6 months ago! Loved your accent! Made this place even more authentic. Atmosphere was nice and cozy. Noise wise was average because the tables were at close distance and there seemed to be a few big parties but it was still doable. Food wise, we over-ordered on the appetizers with 2 orders of carpaccio and 2 orders of bone marrow plus the refills on bread !! nonetheless, it was a great experience and food was delicious.

Many years back, the sommelier at Fleur de Lys told us about this little French bistro, Le Charm. Since then, we’ve been meaning to dine there but never made it until it became Mathilde(what a lovely name). Appetizers: escargots, bone marrow, saffron mussels. Entrée: stuffed squab, filet mignon. Dessert: cream puffs, bread pudding. ALL were exquisitely executed, nothing was lacking. My husband and I were immediately taken back to Paris. Everyone delivered spot on service: courses were timed perfectly, our wine glasses were always full, unpretentious and gracious. Mathilde came to our table to introduced herself and offered us complimentary glasses of apple wine, which by the way I’m hooked on! Overall, the food, service, and ambiance were all very impressive and exceeded my expectations. Can’t wait to go back in May to one of my new favorite dining spots!

This place was incredible. Even from nice restaurants, this place was in a league of its own. The waiters were attentive but not overbearing, overall a very positive dinner. We were a group of 8, and shared the cheese plate, the carpaccio, three desserts, and wine(all delectable). I personally got the Duck Confit which was easily the best meal I’ve had in the past year. It’s relatively expensive, so be prepared to shell out. Still, I can’t recommend this place enough.

Meh. The food was okay, but service was spotty at best. Yes, we did come in for restaurant week, but it wasn’t like we were like loud or anything. Since this was he second restaurant we came into that morning, we didn’t eat as much. I was honestly full but my friends still wanted to come in. We ordered 1 thing off the RW menu and one other dish. We got the steak which was pretty good, but on the small side. I wanted more! The side of fruit and mimosa was definitely nice. We also had the smoked salmon benedict. Honestly, I don’t love smoked salmon, but I have learned to enjoy it more and more. Anyways, the service was on the poor side. We got our food very slowly which is meh, but the food was good. Pro tip: I’ll give it another try and try some other things. Hopefully service is much better.

Duck confit and carpaccio were excellent! I got it with the duck with a side of truffle mushrooms so even more yum! We went on a Thursday so the place was not that busy. Service was good EXCEPT when we asked for the desert menu after our entrees, the server made us wait 10 minutes for the menu. By that time, the food had settled deep inside so we just asked for the check instead.

I came here on Friday afternoon for Restaurant week for a 12pm reservation. At first it was quiet, but other folks started trickling in and soon the restaurant was full of patrons. Service was prompt and friendly. I realized their RW deal wasn’t that great if you compare the prices for the two dishes with their regular menu. It’d have been nice if they also included an appetizer. The savings was about 3.00 if I remember correctly. I had the steak and the chocolate mousse dessert — both delicious. The steak was cooked the way I asked — super buttery and the caramelized onions were delicious though presentation definitely lacking. I also had the chocolate mousse — good flavor and the right texture. Overall, a delicious but a meal not so memorable. And the deal not so memorable either. I wouldn’t do Mathilde Bistro for RW again.

Welcome back better than ever, Mathilde! When the remodeling started, I was curious as to who was taking over the space but also disappointed to see LeCharm go, because it was such a cute little unpretentious French bistro. Quite excited to hear that the original staff(who are seriously all the nicest people!) took it over and revamped it! Food is equally tasty, but with an added modern flair and I couldn’t be happier. The lunch menu is less extensive than their dinner one, but enough to satisfy the vegetarian or pescatarians in your party. The choux-dwich are essentially buttery round-sandwich shaped croissants that are perfectly toasted to be slightly crunchy outside but soft inside. They were less messy to eat than I anticipated, as they are less flakey than standard croissants. Mmmmm the crème fraîche complements the sandwich really well. Gnocchi and pasta are soft and fresh, while their fries are thin-cut and light. The portions are definitely enough for lunch, although you’ll find it hard to pass on the dessert menu. I can still taste the chocolate pudding with banana sauce as I’m writing this: d

My boyfriend and I came here one rainy afternoon for lunch. My boyfriend ordered the Pan seared Flat iron steak with caramalized onions and pommes frites. This was cooked medium rare. It was delicious and juicy! Cooked to perfection. I’m not a fan of caramalized onions, but he enjoyed them. I ordered the«choux-dwich» with prosciutto, fig jam, camembert, arugula and pommes frites. I love fig jam so this one was calling to me. Camembert is cheese! I had to look it up since I didn’t know. But, the fig jam, prosciutto and camembert together made the perfect combination. It was mouth watering!!! It was so good, I didn’t want to share! But, of course I did. We ended our lunch with the Apple Tart Tatin. Caramel and apple? YES! It was warm, soft and juicy with a little crunch from the crust. I give it a 10! Staff was super friendly! I will definitely come back to try their dinner menu. Minus 1 star for: There were only 2 people working the tables so the wait to order was a bit long.

Was searching for a perfect cheese platter place, and accidentally stumbled upon this fantastic restaurant! Highlights: 1. It feels more French at Mathilde Bistro than at some French restaurants in France. This place has a very authentic spirit and outstanding native French servers! 2. Amazing ambiance — the patio is decorated with beautiful lights, and the tables have table cloth and real candles. It makes it a perfect spot for a romantic date. 3. The food is spectacular. Mussels are very tender, and the wine sauce is to die for! Ravioli have very juicy and flavorful meat, and cheese platter has 4 various cheeses and great condiments. This place truly deserves 5 stars!

I don’t know who Mathilde is, but could I still call this place Le Charm? I always liked that name. In fact, Le Charm was the subject of one of my first Unilocal reviews a decade ago because I thought the Early Bird Prix Fixe dinner was quite a deal back then. Time really flies because it’s taken me all this time to return with all the dining choices in this great city of ours. And now it’s Mathilde like it’s Caitlyn Jenner only unlike Caitlyn, Mathilde does look pretty much the same as I recall. The patio still looks as inviting as it did before, and sure enough, that’s where I told them I’d like me and Jamie W. to sit(photo: ). And it should come as no surprise that Jamie W. and I were here for the three-course Early Bird Prix Fixe dinner which is now $ 38 from 5:30 to 6:45PM. Looking back on my 2006 review, I read it was $ 28 way back then, but hey, times change. It’s still a bargain compared to other restaurants with more cache. Jamie started healthy with the Salade Mathilde, a kale salad with quinoa seeds, crumbled hard-boiled egg and smoked trout(photo: ) but moved to the hefty $ 13 crock of Onion Soup Gratinée prepared in classic bistro style(photo: ). I went for the gusto upfront with the Mussels Marinières which turned out to be a generous pile bathing in a pool of white wine, cream, shallots and garlic(photo: ). I dare say it bested similar creations I’ve had at Plouf and even Café Claude. This was a long-lasting appetizer as neither of us could get enough of dipping the French bread into what remained of the sauce(photo: ). We both ordered the same entrée, the Pan Seared Creek Stone Farm Iron Steak done medium rare with blended caramelized onions on top and a small salad on the side(photo: ). Along came the fries to turn the dish into steak frites(photo: ). The meat was a nice slab though a tad too pink for my taste but not nearly pink enough to motivate me to return it. It was quite hearty and satisfying. I was getting pretty sated by this point given the amount of food doled out to us, but I never turn down a dessert if it’s part of the deal. We both ordered the Apple Tarte Tatin which turned out to be a hefty slab of sweetness, caramelized apples with crème fraîche encased in an almond crust(photo: ). Very tasty but we were officially on carb overload at that point. Washing it all down was a $ 38 bottle of the 2014 Domaine de Figueirass Rosé which brought a crisp lightness to the meal that was getting seriously hefty as the evening progressed(photo: ). No matter as it was a lovely evening for a Christmas Eve Eve Eve dinner. FOOD — 4 stars… classic French bistro with California-style portions with the mussels the clear standout AMBIANCE — 4 stars… as charming as it was as Le Charm with the patio bringing a hint of Provence to the proceedings SERVICE — 4 stars… very attentive even as the patio began to crowd TOTAL — 4 stars… Mathilde is still Le Charm-ing to me

Planning a large event of any sort can be a bit of a daunting task. Fortunately, that’s not the case at Mathilde. This review is for a 60+ people holiday party hosted at Mathilde, and I have only great things to say. 5 stars for charming and festive décor, attentive and friendly service, and of course the food! The passed hors d’oeuvres were all amazing. Of the 10+ we had, I didn’t encounter one I didn’t like. I particularly enjoyed the bacon wrapped dates and éclair pastry of brie and huckleberry jam. A huge thank you to Lina and the staff for being welcoming and accommodating. We all had a lovely evening and will be back very soon.

As a child, I never thought I lived near French restaurants, let alone knew how readily available certain French dishes were. Well, I now know otherwise — especially throughout The City, the French delight is everywhere, if you know where to look. We came to Mathilde Bistro soon after it opened, with a set of musicians(including accordion!) still performing the whole time when we got there. Seated in the back patio, which was covered by an overhang and the atmosphere was candlelit, making the aura rather romantic. When not pleasantly accordion-distracted, I ordered the following: –PANSEAREDMOSAIQUEOFDUCKMAGRETANDFOIEGRAS toasted walnut bread and huckleberry coulis –PANSEAREDBACONWRAPPEDDAYBOATSCALLOP sauteed mixed mushroom and white truffle oil –Iced Tea Their foie gras appetizer was quite good, accentuated by the huckleberry flavor. They go hand in hand for sure. I was surprised how much I liked the scallops dish, not because of seafood nor bacon but because of truffle oil. I am not typically a fan of anything mushrooms, but here, they delivered something fresh and delicious! All ingredients on that dish tasted exquisite together, delicately arranged. In all, every kid knows bacon, and that’s a start. Do wish I was more aware of le français culture growing up. I was a mistaken child. Come to Mathilde! J’adore!

I was really torn on my rating for this place and, whilst it’s a 3.5 star for me, I decided to give it 4 stars. I would rate it as follows: Service — 4 stars — friendly and responsive Starter of mussels — 2 star — failed to deliver the flavour I was expecting Duck Confit Main — 5 stars — absolutely loved it ;-)) Wine selection — 3 star — the choices are ok Dessert — 3.5 star — no crème brûlée on the menu :-(and taste is also ok. Value for money — 2 star — it seems they want you to pay for their renovation in a year :-) Ambience — 5 star I love French food and after having read the glowing reviews was eagerly looking forward to it. The ambience here is intimate and romantic. The tables are well spaced and did not feel crowded. The staff were, or at least sounded French. They were quick to serve us and take orders. We decided to share the mussels special of the day. I was disappointed with this dish as it lacked flavour and this was a fusion dish gone wrong… the chilli did not work with the sauce. The confit duck was amazing. I would come back here just for that :-)) the presentation of this dish could use some finessing but it tasted excellent. The wines we had were both French and quite ok. The prices were a bit on the high side for what it was. The chocolate banana pudding was nice. You could taste each ingredient of this desert. The only disappointment was the missing crème brûlée on the menu :-((I was here with two other people and their reaction was pretty similar to mine. I would definitely come back here for the confit duck(one of my favourite French dishes I eat once a year due to the richness) ;-)) I think the food needs an uplift in flavour. For the money you pay for a meal here I expect a much higher level of sophistication in flavour. Outside of the confit duck this place did not wow me.

Friend chose this place for dinner. Walked in and fell in love. It’s great for a date and for a small group. There is a patio and had live music. I was famished so as soon as I got in I ordered the bread basket, ask for warm bread and truffle butter. The truffle butter is delicious. For appetizer we ordered the house charcuterie board, was pretty good. Some of the pates were good a few were okay. Dinner 1– stuffed quail — was pretty good 1– duck confit, husband wouldn’t stop raving about it 1– lamb shank — friend loved it 1– steak and fries– friend loved it We were so stuffed we couldn’t get dessert. But I’m definitely going to head back for Sunday brunch.
