So delicious! We tried a bunch of different sashimi, nigiri and some appetizers. All of the fish is so fresh and tastes great. It has a very nice atmosphere as well.

Good attentive service, delicious rolls, friendly, and they seated our party of four right away. No complaints. Definitely better than 3.5 stars.

Came here on a Friday night because Dojima Ann was too packed. The interior is nicely decorated and it’s a huge space. The staff all seemed very new to working at a restaurant. We asked for water from three different waiters. It took awhile to take our order. When we eventually got someone’s attention, we ordered some yakitori and rainbow roll. The food itself was very good, but as others have mentioned, it is a bit pricey and took awhile to arrive. Then, when we were done, we could not get the attention of any waiter for the bill. Finally we just went up to the front to pay. It’s understandable that they just opened, but I hope they improve their speed of service in the future.

You shouldn’t have a sore jaw after $ 50 worth of sushi. Just absolutely terrible. and laughably over priced. As I write this I’m monitoring my stomach for signs of distress. 8:30 on a Friday night in San Francisco, I was happy to get a seat at a any sushi bar, so I was surprised that this place was totally empty. Ordered the omakase at $ 35 for 9 pieces of nigiri. Awful. I can honestly say the sushi I got at the Walgreens on Powell was fresher. This chef should reconsider his profession. The service matched the lousy food. After asking for my check and watching the waitress smile and nod and then go fill soy sauce bottles, I finally stormed the host desk and was given my bill for $ 46 — 9 nigiri, one small Kirin — I dropped $ 49 and walked out. Life is too short for bad sushi.

First, delicious! Service was attentive and good and I thought the place was clean and cozy. Pet peeve of mine, non Japanese sushi chefs, but fish was fresh and really authentic otherwise. Recommend.

Not a bad place. I’ve seen this place many times, but I guess they were never open until recently. I thought I give it a try and it turned out to be pretty good. It’s a little on the pricey side, but not too pricey if you know what I mean. We paid $ 11 for 4 pieces of salmon sashimi? Nigiri was $ 9. That’s kinda pricey to me, especially if you have tried many different sushi locations around the city. Besides the pricing, I can’t really complain. The fish and seafood are definitely fresh! It’s true authentic Japanese chefs making your sushi rolls. The place is large enough for large parties and there isn’t a wait right now since it recently opened. I didn’t get their sashimi combo, but I was definitely jealous of those who ordered it. The chefs do a great job plating the sashimi into the blow with garnishes. They also have a sashimi/nigiri omakase too! It’s not one of those expensive kinds where you get food too, just straight up chef’s choice shashimi/nigiri for about $ 30. The waiters are super nice and helpful. They are always checking on you to make sure everything is okay. What did I order? Shishito peppers(I’ve had better), harajuku roll(not bad), salmon sashimi(super fresh, but melting in mouth though), hotate(not slimey), ikura(can’t go wrong here), ama ebi(good, they give you the fried head too), chicken karage(not typical battered karage, but still good). I would definitely come here to satisfy my sushi cravings. It’s not the best and it’s not the worst. Had a great time there and will come back again

Awesome food! Sit at the bar, Sushi Chef Alex is great! Everything is great, but you have to try the Lamb and Filet Minon Yakitori… excellent.

Unexpectedly — maybe the best lamb chops in the country This restaurant is my one must-go place in SF. For months I look forward to my annual work-related trip to this city mainly because of the Yakitori-grilled New Zealand lamb chops, which are among the best foods I’ve tasted in any cuisine. Miyabiya’s ownership changed only a few weeks ago(formerly called Hana Zen), but the chops are the same outstanding quality. They come out sizzling, unusually tender with a juicy warm-red inside and perfectly seasoned with only salt. The edges are caramelized. They are small(about 3 oz each), so I get three orders(two chops per order). Sprinkled with fresh lemon juice and chased with some hot sake, and a side of the house salad, it is one of the most satisfying meals I have each year.(The sushi and other Yakitori items are solid. Service was professional and prompt on a recent Saturday at 6 pm. The interior is clean and renovated, comfortable for conversation without being too quiet.) Why would a sushi/Yakitori place have such good lamb chops? I know, it doesn’t make sense. Despite 10 years of searching, nowhere in the Midwest or both coasts have I found as tasty a meat dish. As far as other SF restaurants go, Gary Danko(which my wife and I had again last night) is excellent. Credo, Boulevard, and Hog Island Oyster are fine. But I can get fine French/American cuisine and fresh seafood in any major city. I have time to write one review for SF this year, and only the New Zealand lamb chops are worth writing about.

The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is that there was no wait to be seated. My boyfriend and I went here while we were visiting San Francisco. When we first walked in there was no one to seat us. Looking around there was a lady that pointed to the sushi bar. When the waitress took our drink order we tried to order iced green tea, they didn’t have any. Then we ordered a diet coke and hot green tea. The waitress came back and said they were out of diet coke? Then when our hot green tea came, the tea bag was sticking out and it was Lipton green tea… not very authentic. The sushi chef took our order and was serving the sushi just all wrong. He served us a few pieces and we waited there waiting for the rest. There was no one else in the restaurant so finally the sushi chef said«are you ready for the next round?» My boyfriend said«just keep it coming». Then he served us our unagi which is supposed to be served last always since it is sweet. We cancelled the rest of our order and asked for the check. It took them about 15 min to give us our check. I’m not sure if this is a new restaurant or what happened but it was just an awful experience. We left hungry and irritated. Not a good feeling when you are supposed to be on vacation at the nations food capital.

If it was possible to give this restaurant a negative star I would. This place was not busy at all when we arrived, yet it took the staff 20 minutes to get us our menus after seating us. About 5 minutes later, some bumbling fool came by with a bottle of water and couldn’t figure out how to pour it. We finally ordered our food about 40 minutes after being there. We had a simple order: 1 miso soup, 1 cherry blossom roll, one spicy tuna handroll, 1 rainbow roll and the sashimi combo. Why is it that it took them 30 minutes to bring the miso soup, which came in the middle of our course instead of the beginning? We never got our cherry blossom roll or spicy tuna hand roll. We had to remind the waiter(there wasn’t one waiter for our table, we had like, 3 or 4 people serve us) that we ordered the sashimi. When it finally came, we couldn’t even eat it because it smelled like rancid butt. Towards the end of our meal, a waitress came by to give us another miso soup, not knowing we had already been served one. To say the least I will never be back to this crap hole. It is nothing but a disorganized mess.

We gave this place a try for dinner on New Year’s Day, 2016, and only because literally EVERY other Japanese joint in Union Square had lines out the door. My bf and I ordered a large hot sake, and two orders of beef teriyaki. They were not that busy, but there were only 2 waitresses, and one was really, really awkward. She was young, with glasses, and her table side manner was atrocious. She would stomp right up to her tables and shove things in the diner’s faces with no manners at all. Thankfully, we got the other waitress, who was very attentive and had a lot of experience. Our miso soup came out right away, followed by the sake and salad. The miso soup was very good, with lots of seaweed, and the salad was organic, delicate, and had a delicious light dressing. We loved how all the veggies are julienned! We then waited about 30 more minutes for our entrée to arrive, and being as hungry as we were, it wasn’t a pleasant wait. But then it came, and it was an artfully arranged plate of delicious veggies sautéed in olive oil and cracked pepper, and a good sized portion of beef with great teriyaki sauce. So mixed feelings about this place, but here’s my overall pro/con list. CONS: Slow service, needs to replace one waitress, needs to get their waitresses into defined service areas PROS: Delicious food

The sushi was great; all fresh. The servers were all friendly and knowledgeable about their menu items. The sushi chef knows his fish. The restaurant was getting crowded by the time I finished eating. I would definitely come back again.

Very slow service, food doesn’t live up to their price. Although it’s their first day opening, some of the server’s attitude cannot save the this restaurant.
