I’ve been here twice. Once, I ordered the crab rice bowl, or whatever it is called. That was kind of weird. It tasted like dry California roll mushed up and put in a bowl. The next time, I ordered a salmon teriyaki bowl. The salmon was dry, and the rice was completely drenched in teriyaki sauce. They gave me a lot more rice than fish.

The Poke Tuna Salad wasn’t so bad. I was craving sushi so I gave it a try. What I like is that they have actual dishes in front so you can see what looks good before placing an order. Make sure you keep your receipt with you. When they call your number they expect for you to show them the receipt in order to pick up your food. It was kind of a pain because no one told me that and I already crumpled it up and stuffed it in my wallet. Do try all their sauces with your dish. The miso dressing was pretty tasty and added flavor to my dish.

UGH. This place is plain AWFUL. First off, I have given them TWO chances hoping that I just caught them on a bad day. No dice. The first time, I ordered the Unagi bowl. It wasn’t great at all, and the portion was ridiculously small compared to the average Japanese place. However, the pricing was not. It was way overpriced. Then I had talked with a co-worker who INSISTED that the food here was sooooooo good. And that I probably had caught it on a bad day. I let her convince me into trying one more time. During my second experience, I thought to myself strange that the ENTIRE food court is PACKED, with a long wait at every restaurant EXCEPT for Mr. Hana, but I let myself ignore that thought and give them another chance. I ordered the Poke Tuna on Rice & Veggies. This is normally one of my favorite dishes, but this place really ruined it for me. The fish was NOT fresh and ended up getting me sick. It was funny tasting, so I refrained from finishing it. Low and behold, I was sick after an hour. It was awful… plain awful.

I got the unagi bowl. I thought it was just ok and the price was way too much. Honestly, I won’t be dining her again. They don’t have a big variety. I walked by here last week and did they change their name?

When I need to bolt into the mall to buy something last moment — on my lunch break — I like to stop in here before heading back to the office. Mostly — cause every other mall food kiosk is packed with avid hungry mall shoppers, and also because I like to think that the food here is relatively healthy. I can’t really speak to the majority of the food at Mr Hana, because I’m usually in a rush and just want something basic — so I usually just get rice. Literally just rice. But it always hits the spot. A big heaping serving of brown rice — with a side of teriyaki sauce. Served with a nice pleasant smile. Cheap and so good! Trust.

Today a few of us walked over to the Westfield mall food court and tried Mr. Hana’s. The portion size was decent for lunch. Service was fairly quick, we got our order within 5 mins. The food was tasty nice change from burgers We ordered: Beef Platter $ 11.50 Unagi Bowl $ 10.99 Chicken Bowl $ 8.99 side Gyoza $ 1.99 all served with chopped cabbage & broccoli w/steam rice. Washed it down with a glass of cucumber water. :)

The tuna poke bowl(cubes of poke with a cucumber salad, seaweed salad, dried seaweed, ginger, wasabi, and rice) is probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten at a food court. 4* instead of 5 only because it’s pricey for a food counter(with the brown rice option and a side of miso soup it comes to around $ 16.50) and because nothing else on the menu really appeals to me.

Not so ‘Japanese’, more like Americanized shit. But the food is alright, I’ve had better. _________________________________ I came back here today, though it doesn’t taste fresh as Japanese food usually are fresh. I had Tenppayaki, which consists of teriyaki chicken, shrimps, and beef teriyaki. Pretty plentiful portion. The only probably was they put way too much sauce on my rice plate.

A bit hungry, the kid and I wandered around the food court this past weekend. T’was better than an afternoon at Costco as we sampled our way through the competition, while deciding what to nosh on before WICKED. YAY for Mr. Hana. The tender chicken teriyaki won us over but the tasty Buckhorn tri-tip was a very close 2nd. We enjoyed the Spicy Chicken Teriyaki Bowl – served over Japanese cabbage and rice – DELISH! We also indulged in the 5-piece pot sticker for only $ 1.99. Nice price! Oh and ditto @ what Dita said about the self serve ice water… lovely and refreshing touch!

This is my go to spot whenever I’m looking for food at the Westfield shopping center. It’s one of the only places I feel like I can eat a healthy, satisfying meal in this place! Granted, my four star review is based solely on the spicy tuna bowl but hey, it’s damn good! A huge portion of spicy tuna surrounded by rice(they even offer brown rice if you’re trying to be healthier), seaweed salad(which is very good), avacado, sprouts and pickled vegetables. They’re always fast and I’ve never seen a huge line at this place which is a plus if you’re in a hurry. Is it pricey? Slightly… but it’s Westfield, for Christs’ Sake! Right across from Bristol Farms which we all know aint cheap! Is there better and cheaper Japanese food in SF? Hell yes. But I will continue to go to this place when I’m in Westfield because it’s the only eatery where I wont feel like I’m weighed down by fat and grease!

A bit overpriced for the most part, but a clean set up to serve customers. Located within the bottom floor of the food court within the Westfield mall portion of the San Francisco Shopping Centres building complex. I will say this… I’ve only tried really smooth unagi in three spots, here, Samurai Sushi Boat, and Fukada Restaurant. Everything else, I am not certain how delicious it really is until I come back to visit. The unagi bowl costs me and my friend a whopping $ 13.00 with tax. I’ve certainly had more affordable japanese bowls for a better price and a higher quality, so I gotta be anal and drop only two stars for at least effort even with the exceptional unagi.

Every time I eat here, I end up regretting it after I’m done. It’s like I have amnesia about my last visit and forget how blah it was. But for some weird reason, I end up going with it. Maybe it’s cause it’s the only«Japanese» restaurant in Westfield. Mr. Hana — You charge way too much for your so so food. The quality of the food is low. Please do something about it, so we starving shoppers can go about our business happily after eating at your spot. Maybe take another class in Japanese cooking 101? Whatever it is, please do it. Or I regret that my amnesia will kick in again the next time I’m at Westfield and I’m suckered into buying one of your less than satisfying salmon bowls again. I took my cousin who was visiting from San Diego to this joint and we both had the same feeling after. It was like spending money on a louis vuitton bag on Ebay and you end up getting a fake bag! Here, I looked at the display case and the food looked yummy but when I actually got my food it was not so. I end up leaving hungry cause the food was so oily and unsatisfying that I bought something else, at Nordies café. So tourists or fellow SF folks, don’t waste your time or money here. There is so much more in SF.

100% Korean. This is the most Yo-Yo Japo’ish imitation ever! In my experience of having crappy Japo in SF, the place is one of the WORST Puking Crap! I don’t know how they do that. They must to have NOSHAME I don’t know HOWOLD was the Tuna used for Poke. Well, making a poke, you don’t need a Fresh fish anyway. The place is SOFREAKING Lame. And asking us to pay 10 bucks for the Shit? That is shame. Waste! Every time I come here, I 100% avoid the place. I don’t even look at the place. I try to think I see nothing. I try to think the place isn’t exist. Waste, Just FXXXin’ waste your money. I had a lot better Korean-chef-Japanese. People! Wake Up! What you are eating in here is Dog Shit! Well, if you are happy eating DogShit, I won’t stop you. Go for it! Btw, I got a message that there are Bad Yo-Yo Dog Shit– Japo places more than Mr.Hana. As Lolia said, «Suisha House, All Seasons Sushi in Redwood City oh and the worst is Blue Fin Sushi in Redwood City. Worse than Mr. Hana.» Thank God I’ve never been there before! Thanks for info. As I said, One of the worst., as Okazuya in SF.

More bang for the buck. On a hot Saturday afternoon, when all of San Francisco was at the shopping center, Mr. Hana was actually doing some business. This was enough to get us interested in their fare, and we discovered it was quite the value. I ordered the teppanyaki, which had steak, prawns and chicken over rice. My Lady ordered the tempura platter, whcih had enormous prawns. We split a side of pan-fried gyoza. She ordered a flavored water, and I ordered«Japan’s favorite green tea,» both without sugar. The plates were enormous! There was plenty of tasty food to satisfy our hunger, and all for $ 30.35. Yes, we’ll be back. It turned out to be much better than we had expected.

Seriously… not bad for mall food. 2.58 stars. Fast, easy, cheap-ish. The only thing on the display menu that caught my eye was the Teriyappi??! Wait, ok, I really don’t know what its called. Sorry for making up the name, lol. All I know is that it consist of teriyaki beef, 3 pieces of shrimp, and some broiled bbq chicken over veggies and rice, with a grand total of $ 11.92! And they had refreshing refillable cucumber flavored water. Just like the spa. HAHA. Although the serving did look small, it actually filled me up quickly and I only ate less than half of the meal. Again, not that bad considering it was mall food.

I remember when this place opened, there was no take-out menu and no phone number to place a take-out order. I tried it and I liked it. I have brought my family and my friends here. They tried and they like it too. It is fast Japanese food in a food court. It is reasonably priced, in my opinion. When I am in the area, I will usually choose this place for lunch and eat-in on a weekday, when it is nice and quiet in the food court. I always go for the tempura bowl and with gyoza on the side. It is rice with a vegetable overlay(broccoli, cabbage, carrots) on and four pieces of breaded shrimp. Satisfies my hunger and my taste buds. There is a tempura plate, the only difference is instead of a vegetable overlay, there is a side of mixed green salad instead. I am a bit hesitant about trying the other dishes offered in the display case menu. If they could only marinate some of the chicken, beef and fish dishes offered instead of drenching the sauce on top of it. I like the cucumber water off to the side for drinking. It does taste quite fresh and quite refreshing. It is something different, it is spa water. Compared to Japanese restaurants, the quality is not of their standards. It is good, fast and convenient. Good enough for me who is always on the run and always in a hurry.

I am usually hesitant on trying Japanese places in food courts. I tend not to want to order the teriyaki chicken [the safe item], so I fear for the freshness of the fish. I gave in and gave $ 11 to Mr. Hana. 2 of the 4 friends already eating had ordered from there, so I was willing to take a chance. I’m daring like that, and they had not begun their convulsions across the food court just yet. I ordered the spicy tuna bowl. It’s a HUGE bowl. The spicy tuna: rice ratio was a bit off. Surprisingly, I wanted more rice to even it out a bit. There’s a nice-sized portion of wakame salad on the side too. It wasn’t so bad. Plus, they had cucumber water. Free cucumber water — refreshing! I may return if I ever feel like eating so much again. I forced myself to finish the last couple of bites, but wow, you can easily split one of these bowls with someone. Three«A-OK» stars for Mr. Flower [“Hana” in Japanese].

There’s tons of places to eat nearby, but if you’re stuck at the mall and the line at Out the Door is too long, you MIGHT consider heading here. Otherwise, get thee out and onto the streets for some real eats. Café Dolci is just two blocks away and you can have 3 Vietnamese sandwiches for the price of one dish here! Edible but dreary food +1 star No line +1 star Booze +1 star Upscale price –1star

Anyone remember«McHale’s Navy»( )? …ANYONE? …well, it was an early 60’s TV sitcom about the motley crew of a PT boat in the South Pacific during WWII. They had a Japanese POW named Fuji, a wiry little sailor that they turned into their subservient, dutiful houseboy. OK, so that’s what Mr. Hana is in the Westfield… the dutiful lil’ Japanese kiosk among the more established chain places here. But I’m afraid the terms of surrender will need to change since I am more than willing to throw this one back to the Axis of Evil. This week, I ordered the semi-elaborate Teppanyaki Plate($ 10.99) — which consisted of dried-out, pan-fried slices of chicken and beef, along with three small shrimp(not a redundant description), over a soggy pile of chopped, stir-fried vegetables and rice. You would think something would be edible out of that pile… but I could barely make it through the beef before the saltiness set in. Now I have had the $ 12.95 Poke Tuna Bowl before, which was better but still hamstrung(or maybe fishstrung) by the overzealous marinade on the tuna bits. The seaweed salad with avocado slices and sprouts was merely passable. Unfortunately, along with Melt Gelato and Amoura, I am wondering if the glamorous sheen of the shopping centre(Brit spelling, please) has made the owners think that any quality of food would be acceptable to the masses here. Hmmm… I don’t think so. Fuji needs to go home. Sayonara, sailor. FOOD — 2 stars… dreadful teppanyaki, poke a tad better… and did I mention it’s on the pricey side, too? AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… it’s a mall, stupid SERVICE — 2 stars… first cashier refused to hear my order as he just punched out, second one took a while to take over… and this was the dinner hour TOTAL — 2 stars… gee, take the 38 to J-Town if you’re really this desperate to have Japanese… I’m sure Fuji cooked better with army rations for that wacky PT-73 crew.

A Japanese food(?) takeout at Westfield Mall food court. Avoid this place or you may drop when you shop. THEENDOFREVIEW. Mr. Hana might send me a hate mail for the lack of explanation for why I give him such a poor review, so I will write more only for Mr. Hana. For others, it’s a waste of time to read, because the bottom line is ‘Don’t eat here.’ So Mr. Hana, why did you choose to serve miso soup in a soup bowl? You cannot lift that large bowl in one hand. Miso flavor is also terrible. Teriyaki sauce on the chicken is also terrible. The way chicken is grilled is terrible, not crisp at all. The salad dressing is terrible. The seaweed salad and cucumber pickles in your tuna bowl are not Japanese. The way you cook your beef is not Japanese. PRICE: $ 10 Chicken platter $ 1 Tax $ 0 Tip — — — — — — — $ 11 Lunch at a mall.
