Narumi is fabulous! Their kimonos are gorgeous! Jiro and Allen are the sweetest and always willing to pull out all the kimonos until you find the perfect one! My partner has bought many(too many!) kimonos because they’re just that beautiful! Thank you for having such a lovely shop. This is the perfect place for luxurious home wear, costumes, and beautiful gifts for special friends. Highly recommended!

Hands down, this is my favorite shop for finding beautiful and reasonably priced kimono. The gentlemen who run the store are very friendly and considerate. The selection of kimono runs the gamut from nice wool komon kimono to wedding Uchikake. I think their prices are reasonable and they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I bought two«everyday» kimono and a much fancier Furisode on my last trip there. This shop is a «MUST visit» every time I’m in San Fransciso!

Narumi has a beautiful selection of Japanese kimonos. There is also a nice selection of dolls and antiquities. The owner was exceedingly professional, helpful and considerate. I highly recommend this store!

I was on my way back from a picnic lunch break at Alta Plaza when I saw a rack of kimonos in the doorway of this shop with a sign that said, «Sale $ 30.» I couldn’t resist taking a look. As I was sifting through the merchandise, the nice man who was working that day(not the owner) let me know that there were some more sale kimonos inside. I ended up picking out a few options and trying them on, all while chatting with the sales associate. He taught me a thing or two about kimonos, haori kimono jackets, and how to show off your wealth with how you fashion them. I picked out a gorgeous vintage silk kimono for $ 30(a steal, as far as I’m concerned), but the real win was the wonderful experience I had shopping in this cute little shop! And a tip: they sell pretty obi in a basket in the corner for $ 5 a pop.

The first time I visited narumi, years ago, I was a bit intimidated. The store is small and has a very high density of nice and pricey items. The owner doesn’t say much… he sits behind his desk and works on dolls or reads… he is one of the few people who will try to repair old japandese dolls, and even then he is very minimal about it. If you express interest in the dolls, he will open up… he knows more about antique ningyo than just about anyone around. It’s always a special treat to go to this store and buy something nice. He has a good selection of items. His dolls range from fairly recent museum quality pieces from the best craftsmen in kyoto to fairly pedestrian middle– class hinas from the showa period to the occasional takeda doll from the edo period. Narumi is a little Jewel in Japantown.

Weird«Japanese» tourist shop on Fillmore… I’ll tell you this much. Someone either isn’t Japanese or doesn’t know how to proofread… Their painted sign at the front door says FU RU MI not NA RU MI … If you can’t even get your own name right…

Very nice store with a great selection of antique Japanese dolls. They also have a nice selection of Japanese tea ceremony utensils. The owner is always there to help and anwser questions. A great find in San Francisco.

Never sure what to make of this guy’s store, but he did have some great Thai buddha statues one Christmas, antique hibachis, fun antique Hina-ningyos. Sometimes it is just hit or miss as it is with any type of antique store. Guess just don’t particularly care for the cardboard blankness from this store owner and don’t feel compelled by blah things. Prefer Kiku’s on Sutter street for the space and the quality of goods.
