Humans are funny creatures. We have the ability to think, the ability to feel, the ability to completely mess things up with each other because communication breaks down. These things are what make us unique, and are also what makes life just so darn complicated. Friday was one of those convoluted type days, on so many levels. Friday was a day I wished I was a turtle. Or a frog. Or a fish. When you’re one of those animals, you don’t have to worry about where your next meal is coming from, and you have pretty deluxe accomodations. Sure, you have to worry about eyeballs staring at you all day, little grubby fingers poking at you(thank god for safety glass), and the possibility that Bonnie might take a bite of your toe(seriously, it happened to Claude). Despite the things that can and do happen to you as an exhibit, you’ve got a pretty sweet life as a simple creature at the California Academy of Sciences. You can lay on a nice warm rock. You can«swim» lazily in one direction. You can flitter from branch to branch in the rainforest. On Thursday nights, it gets even better. you don’t have to watch people trip over strollers, but watch those same people get increasingly drunk from one of the many bars(and potentially trip anyway), and listen to some pretty awesome music being spun. Sure, the animals might have it simple here, but Nightlife makes this place come alive. I strongly recommend it, and plan to come back often.

Tonight I went to the first ever NightLife. Ostensibly it was a celebration of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday, but really it was a great excuse for a ton of adults to visit a cool new museum without all of the kiddies afoot. There were multiple bars set up, a DJ, two lectures, three planetarium shows, and access to all of the exhibits – for only $ 10(or $ 8 if you’re a member), which is so much less than the regular $ 24.95 admission price. This is an awesome way to spend a Thursday night and I plan on repeating the experience soon.
