Over The Moon

Am I «over the moon» about this place? Not too sure!
The guy working there was super nice and fun to talk to, so great job with customer interaction & service!
ICE CREAM FLAVORS:
Coffee Oreo — Great take on the classic Oreo flavor, but infused with coffee. It’s good, but felt super dense. I would say if you got anything more than one scoop, it would be too much.
Honey Lavender — I felt like the first few licks were great. Honey stands out way more than the Lavender, but you still get the floral aspect. Over time, the honey was just overpowering and difficult to eat.
Madagascar Vanilla Bean — Sampled this one, but I wish I went with this fella. It was creamy and the vanilla was perfect!
Peanut Butter & Jelly — Unfortunately, a complete miss for me. Very similar to Smucker’s Uncrustables, but only had a bit of jelly-​flavor and the rest was all peanut butter.
Over The Moon has the potential to be a great creamery, but the consistency of some of the ice cream was too thick and flavors were sometimes off. Also with so many great ice cream places in SF, they are going to have to work out some technical issues in order to compete!

delicious ice cream in a cute neighborhood in the financial district. it was one of the only places open after dinner and we were very happy with the results! very friendly worker and the ice cream was delicious. we found it on Unilocal and it was a little hard to find in person but i’m so glad we came across this place!

Their peach sorbet is hands down the best sorbet I’ve ever tasted! Every spoonful was like biting into a freshly picked peach on a hot summer day. Refreshing juicy and sweet :)
Consider me surprised as I didn’t expect to find this gem under the Embarcadero block of buildings during a lunch break. If you don’t feel like waiting in line in the Ferry Building, Over the Moon is the place to go!
They even have a punch card where it’s something like buy 10 get your 11^th free. Haven’t started one yet but don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to fight off the sorbet callings :)

The Over The Moon Hot Chocolate was what I was looking for after the ice skating session!
It was nice and warm, though the taste was ok.
The service was very nice and friendly.
We look forward on trying their ice cream selection on … a warmer day :)

Over the Moon has a brilliant selection of flavors — possibly one of the best I’ve seen, and it’s only because the city of San Francisco has such phenomenal competitors within the ice cream market that Over the Moon isn’t in my book incremental over an A-​OK rating.
Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?
Over the Moon is small with respect to floor space, and there’s only room for maybe a handful of people inside. This is only an issue because the overwhelming lineup of delicious sounding flavors warrants a good five minutes or so to mull over. From there, service is fast and friendly. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
I’m a sucker for ice cream sandwiches, and these days the market price for one is more or less $ 5.00. That’s exactly what I paid here at Over the Moon for a generous scoop of Cookies and Cream ice cream sandwiched between two larger oreo cookies. Fair. Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
This was a good ice cream sandwich, but it wasn’t something that I would necessarily write home about. The oversized oreos were pretty weak, and while the cookies and cream ice cream had decent flavor, it was a bit overfrozen? Is that a thing? The ice cream was such that there seemed to be legitimate ice in the equation that, after melting, negated a bit of the flavor and consistency across the board. Single Star Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
Over the Moon has a truly phenomenal selection of flavors, and if they can really hone in on quality and flavor they’ll no doubt be top tier. For now, No Star Granted.

My friends & I randomly stumbled into this place while wandering around Embarcadero on a Saturday night. We were contemplating whether or not to go in so we Unilocaled it & saw they had really interesting flavors. We went in & it was a really good call!
There was 4 of us & we were really curious about all their unique flavors so we sampled about 3 each & the worker (didn’t catch his name but he had an Aussie accent) was so nice! I sampled the Honey Lavender, Earl Grey, & Funfetti & they were all exceptionally creamy. Honey Lavender & Earl Grey is usually my favorite combination & they were delicious as their flavors were really strong. I’ve had Earl Grey ice cream at 2 other places & the taste was fairly subtle but this place has a strong tea flavor. However, the texture of the Earl Grey might get a bit grainy after a while as there is ground Earl Grey in the ice cream. The Funfetti was not too amazing but it pretty good & very creamy. I ended up opting for the Earl Grey & the Funfetti because I was more in the mood for Funfetti. I wanted the Small size but I wanted both flavors so I asked if he could do a half scoop of each flavor & he was so nice about it & willing! After I got my cup, the scoops were so big that it was like a full scoop of each flavor but I was charged for only one scoop!
My friends & I had a really good experience because the worker was incredibly nice & he catered to each of our needs & specific requests! He was very helpful by handing us many samples & patient as we tried to decide which flavors to go with! The customer service was the best thing about this place!

Wandered in here with a friend and so glad that we did. We were craving some ice cream and decided to give this place a try.
The lady behind the counter was extremely friendly. Awesome service. I asked for recommendations and she knew her stuff. I ended up falling in love with the Earl Gray ice cream. Oh man. Creamy and flavorful, so I got two scoops. Other flavored were good too, but the Earl Gray was ON POINT.
Less one star due to the awful smell of urine upon walking in. The area is under construction, but dang– do something about the smell, please! Good thing we didn’t have to eat the ice cream inside!
Aside from that, I’ve found another great staple! I didn’t see any froyo here, just FYI, but it’s an amazing spot for ice cream!

Ugh. Another ice cream place that I can’t seem to walk by without dropping in. Ask my friends.
I love their earl grey and honey lavender. But I’ll venture out and try another flavor every now and than–
And it’s always the same. Great texture, sweet + hits the spot.
I’m only writing a review today because the two employees (¹⁰⁄₁₀ @2:50pm) compelled me to. Basic customer service is so hard to find these days that fantastic customer service really makes me stop and pause.
Listening to how they worked the line (which there always will be since this space is super teeny) cohesively as a team, amazing. The personable, friendly manner and attention to details really make a difference.
I mean the ice cream is good but the experience made it great.

I can’t tell you the number of times I had walked by Over the Moon in my perusing of the Embarcadero Centers. I had crossed off a number of the restaurants off (most of them being not that good), found a sweet spot in Paramo Coffee, but somehow had glazed over Over the Moon. I definitely won’t be making that mistake again. It was over 90 °F outside and everyone and their cousin had lined up at Humphrey Slocombe at the Ferry Building. I just wanted a small scoop of ice cream without waiting an hour, so in walking around, I landed at Over the Moon. Amused by their «Breyer’s Remorse» sign, I headed in and had a small scoop of their Coffee Caramel Crunch per Unilocal’s recommendation. The ice cream was good and I definitely had one of those «life is really really good» moments while I was eating it. While the flavors aren’t as whimsical as HS, and I can’t deny that I would pick this over having the Secret Breakfast, this was a great option when you’re looking for a quick ice cream fix!

I had a mad craving for coffee ice cream and dismissed one of my bookmarks to come here since I thought it would be nice to grab a scoop and stare longingly into the bay on a gorgeous SF day.
The location isn’t part of the Embarcadero’s lineup. It’s across the street, tucked away in a little corner… however you can still walk your ice cream over to a bay-​view spot!
I didn’t need to mill over the flavors since I knew the coffee caramel crunch was calling my name. I was intrigued by their fresh-​baked cookies… I added the peanut butter chocolate chip to my order (it had just come out of the oven, to my delight)!
The scoop was a hefty one, but it didn’t do anything for me. It’s still ice cream, though, so all was not lost! There was no slap-​in-​your-​face coffee taste, nor was the crunch that evident, nor the caramel now that I think of it! It was very creamy (I think I’m more of an icier/​thick texture kind of gal).
The cookie was superb! I could have just ordered that and been beaming from ear to ear. Peanut butter shined through, chocolate chips were very much present, and it was warm, soft, and dissolved in my mouth instantly!

Wow! Great to finally stop by on National ice cream Day on Sunday! I had always wanted to stop by at this place but never got a chance to. I had the Whiskey Praline and the ginger flavors. I had a sample of the lavender flavor, but the flavor was too mild for me. I sat down on one of the three stools by the window overlooking the Embarcadero.
I really enjoyed the White Ginger ice cream with little chunks of ginger mixed it. It was softer and melted faster than the whiskey praline. The whiskey praline had a thicker texture to it. It was an interesting flavor, but since I am not a whiskey fan, I can’t compare to the real thing.
For sure I will return to this place or head to the main headquarters in the Marina District. There are quite a number of other flavors that I really want to try! For sure I will order the Ginger ice cream again. For two scoops in a cup costs $ 5.00.
Yummy in my tummy! That’s for sure! :-)

My Friends and I had dinner in the Financial district and decided to stroll in here for some dessert. I love ice cream so i make it a point to try many ice cream places in SF when i am in town.
My best friend and i tried different flavor combos. The cookies and cream with a snickerdoodle cookie, and a whiskey praline/​bourbon vanilla. I love alcohol, so it was very different to try an alcohol flavored ice cream. I must admit it was good in a unique way. Also, the ice cream with cookies thing is also something that is very common in SF.
I wish i could rate this place higher. However, since SF has so much competition in the ice cream department i feel its pretty hard to rate without giving too much hype.
But if you are in the financial district and looking for «home» like ice cream i would recommend trying it out.
Must try: Whiskey Praline (its actually uniquely delicious)

The girl working was very nice and was patient while we tried to decide on a flavor. We ended up with a scoop of Earl Grey and a scoop of Cookie Monster.
The Earl Grey has real ground tea leaves which makes for kind of a weird texture but it tasted absolutely amazing.
The Cookie Monster was so good! Bright blue (can’t pinpoint the flavor… Maybe bubble gum?!) with chunks of soft chocolate chip cookies. A really flavorful ice cream.
Overall, the $ 3.50 a scoop was well worth it!

Get the Honey Lavender and Coffee Caramel Crunch. It’s delicious and will satisfy your sweet tooth. The lady who helped me out said it’s their two most popular flavors. Their cookies are also very good and you can ask them to kindly heat up the cookies in the oven so it’s warm and soft for you. Love this place. Definitely a cute place to visit when you’re craving for ice cream.

Homemade? I was really surprised that it didn’t satisfy my palette one bit. We ordered a 3 scoop.
Butterscotch: it did not have a familiar taste of butterscotch. My bf definitely loved it.
Chocolate raspberry: had little chocolates filled with raspberry jelly. I didn’t like that. I thought it would have fresh raspberries in it.
I don’t remember what the last flavor was. I have never been so unsatisfied with ice cream. I could have really done without trying this place. I find it impossible that I actually didn’t like the taste of an ice cream place.

I tried the coconut. It tasted kind of weird. It was coconutty and smooth, but it’s not Mitchell’s good. Kind of expensive for one small scoop.

I stopped by here as I was on my way to take he underground and encountered their street sign. Fresh cookies? I’m sold! It wasn’t hard to find this place as the fresh baked cookies scene led me here.
The cookies were delicious and not to expensive 2/​$ 2 6/​$ 5. I tried their cookies and cream cookie and snickerdoodle. My favorite has to be cookies and cream. Soft and chewy, yum!
I’ll have to give their ice cream a try next time!

I’ve walked past Over The Moon many times on my way to Posh Bagel in the Embarcadero Center, and it’s either been closed or just about to close, the promise of an ice cream sandwich with freshly-​baked cookies just out of my grasp.
But Lo! an afternoon appeared where I would finally take my break at a time when I would see the doors of Over The Moon open, not a soul inside or waiting in line, as though that moment in time were made just for me and my impending ice cream sandwich.
The girl behind the counter was incredibly nice and let me try a couple of flavors of ice cream before I made the decision as to what I wanted to sandwich between two soft, delicious looking cookies (the peanut butter and jelly was a great choice, for those of you interested), and I ultimately ended up going with a giant scoop of snickerdoodle ice cream between — oh yes — two snickerdoodle cookies.
For $ 4.00 I walked away with an ice cream sandwich that needed to be stuffed into a cup to ensure none of all of that ice cream would melt onto the ground below. The ice cream tasted just like a snickerdoodle cookie, with a subtle cinnamon and sugar sweetness that wasn’t overwhelming, and the cookies were nearly perfect, though they could’ve stood to be a bit softer. Very delicious ice cream sandwich though, and since you can create any ice cream/​cookie combo you want, the possibilities are as wide as they are promising and encourage multiple return trips back to Over The Moon. If you’re in the area, definitely drop by!

Sometimes a girl just needs some ice cream. When such a situation came about in San Fran, this place hit the spot.
I was on the way to get some work done in a coffee shop when I conveniently passed Over The Moon. I was reluctant and carefully thought through my decision about whether or not I should make the walk inside (because then you know the battle is over). Would I regret it afterwards? I quickly decided no and then came the actual hard decision: what to get!
I went for a classic cup of mint chocolate chip but was tempted by the ice cream sandwiches. After having just lunched at the nearby Ferry Building, I was a little too full for that but definitely next time.
It’s a little hole-​in-​the-​wall so there’s no seating to be had; however, there’s a nice breezeway outside and to the right with plenty of benches to sit down and enjoy your snack. Over the moon surely won over my heart…

On my way out of the Ferry Building I walked past Over The Moon and my sweet tooth got the best of me. This small operation is run by a single cashier and has limited inside seating, although there is ample seating in the hallway outside. They primarily focus on custom ice cream sandwiches.
The selection of cookies here is good, with a few interesting options like Cappuccino or Oatmeal Chocolate. There are a few non traditional ice cream options as well. I chose to go with drumstick flavor, which is basically like a mashed up drumstick ice cream cone complete with waffle flakes throughout.
The service was very friendly and the girl working there gave some helpful tips and encouraged sampling everything. When making the ice cream sandwich she took care to evenly spread everything out and served it up in a cup, both of which are aspects of Cream that irritate me greatly.
The ice cream sandwich itself was delicious (as they almost always are) and the unique flavors of both the cookie and ice cream made for a good flavor combination.
Overall, If I were in the mood for an ice cream sandwich in the future, I would likely come here over Cream.
