Even for a fairly new event, this little music and food truck festivus is pretty close to perfect and one i wouldn’t bat an eyelash when deciding if would come again. The headliner for this year was Tanlines and unlike so many other fests, there wasn’t a bad act among the line-up. Vérité, Scary Little Friends, Marriages, Everyone Is Dirty… legit. What I especially liked was the presence of so many female-led bands but without going full blown Lillith Fair. I think probably 65% of the bands or more were all led by some pretty fierce females. The park isn’t huge but it’s perfect for a two stage festival and also boats a skate park, a playground, and a little hill perfect for getting a glimpse of the entire fest and blocking out crossover sound from the opposite stage. Touted as a music and food fest, the food trucks in attendance were prime and nary was there a line for bites or bathrooms, which is a rare site in any sort of concert situation. Another really nice thing about this fest is that is runs from noon to 7pm, so you still have time after to go out and do something. The music started right at 12:30 and act were perfectly staggered so that there was always something going on. They had A LOT of security present, but the security people were hella friendly and even complementary. Getting into the event and leaving was also something for the record books. No lines, no pushing, no shoving. Just orderly, gradual, and real human-like… not at all like the cattle stampede you see at other fests. Tickets this year were $ 30, $ 35 at the door. If you bought a 6-pack the tickets would come out to be $ 25 each and at any of those prices, totally worth it. They also had a VIP ticket offering for $ 60 but the deal didn’t sound all that enticing with just 20% of bar drinks and special porta-potty access. I think they could have supped that up a bit with at least a drink or two included. Speaking of drinks, I didn’t have any here. The environment they had for the beer drinkers was not at all enticing and I was much happier just chilling with my water than having to go in to what was essentially a fenced in beer jail that you can’t leave if you’re drinking alcohol. I think having this has its good and bad points. The bad being obvious that it sucks the fun right out of drinking when you have to be in a caged in time-out area to do it, but the good is that I think it really cut down on festival waste/litter clean-up and I also didn’t see a single trashed person while I was here. In fact, it was all pretty family friendly as long as you slapped those noise canceling headphones on your kid. I would attend this festival again in a heartbeat.
