Salon KaoVey

Salon KaoVey is the only place that I go to. I don’t trust anyone else with my hair. He always does a terrific job on the cut, color, and highlights. Love him!!!

I was going to a black tie wedding in San Francisco and needed an Up-​Do! I’m from Orange County, so I decided to look through Unilocal to find a hairstylist :) I am across Salon KaoVey and read all the wonderful reviews, so I made an appointment with Kao! Kao did a beautiful job with giving me a lovely Up-​Do for the wedding! My hair had a classic look with a modern touch! I absolutely loved it and received endless compliments about my hair throughout the evening! During my time with Kao, he was engaging, fun to talk to, and he was just relaxed. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do with my hair, but he knew what to do! Thank you Kao again! It was a pleasure to meet you! If I’m ever back in San Francisco, I will let you know!

Haven’t been able to find someone to tame this mane since I moved here in February. Kao colored and cut my hair into a major transformation! I was so grateful to him. He is extremely skilled and clearly is an expert in his field. I trust him to do anything to my hair after just one visit. Kao has a very relaxed, zen-​like style and energy. I had a wonderful first-​time experience with him and am looking forward to a long-​term relationship.

I had probably the worst haircut of my life here. I had really long hair that I was looking to get just a bit taken off of – I specified no more than an inch. He chopped at least 3 inches off, totally butchering my hair. It was bad enough, that I ended just getting it cut by someone else to fix it. The whole haircut only took 15 minutes, which was a red flag. He did offer to try to fix it, but I didn’t want him doing anything else to my hair.

Made a last minute appointment for an updo for military ball. He was amazing! My hair has never looked so grande. He took two ideas, combined them beautifully, and added his own special style. He is a true artist! Thanks again for helping to make my day special.

Going from long hair to short hair is a major life decision one does not take lightly. I took the time to get mentally ready and when I finally went to see Kao, I could not wait for the makeover.
I didn’t go in with an agenda; only told him to do his magic and that I was ready to go very short. He was sweet and funny and yet so graceful. We had lots of fun.
Et voila! I felt like a million bucks walking out of his salon. I have been blessed, and I found the one.
Everyone loves my haircut too, saying the short hair suits me so well and is so «me». I’m still getting compliments daily.

Such a talented person! I would give him even more stars if I could. He listens to what you want, adding some details to make you look even more fabulous than you expected. Reasonably priced and exceptional in terms of customer service. What else can you anticipate from a good hairdresser?!

Kao gave me a cut, I bought a deal off of Unilocal and I am so happy I decided to visit his salon. Kao is nothing short of amazing. Incredibly talented, sweet and clearly a master of his craft.

Kao is now my favorite hair dress in town, I wouldn’t trust anyone else for taking care of my hair. I just can’t wait to go back to fix my hair with Kao after almost 6 months since I had my son!

Long overdue review…
I have been going to Kao for three years now. Let’s be real, possibly the most difficult thing about moving to a new city is trusting someone new to care for your locks! Kao is brilliant. I hadn’t a clue what I wanted to do with my mop and gave a very vague description of what I hoped for. It comes out fabulous every time. He’s helped me out countless times when I’m running late or something comes up and I NEED something done quick. He’s very genuine and easy to talk to. He gives me great tips and answers the millions of questions I have :)

I’ve been meaning to post this review for forever. I haven’t been here in over a year (I moved to LA) but the two times I went were AMAZING. The first time I met Kao Vey it was because I had a Groupon for full highlights + gloss. I ended up getting a trim as well, and seriously, the results were fantastic. I went back about six months later, right before I moved, to get an all-​over honey brown + trim. Both times I went home and my hair, oh my god. You know those movies where women are walking down the street with so much… sexiness? And their hair is blowing in the wind? That’s how I felt! Both times. Like my hair was the center of attention.
Basically, I have yet to find a stylist here in LA who does as good of a job as Kao Vey. I have considered taking a day trip up to SF… just to get my hair cut. He’s THAT good.

I needed to get a wig styled for my wedding (I currently have really short hair but wanted something more feminine for my wedding day). I don’t think he had ever done a wig before but he did mine perfectly! Exactly the style I wanted (sort of a soft low side ponytail). I got this done a week before and when I plopped it on my head the day off, it took just a few minutes to put the bobby pins in the right places and then I was ready to go! And he also gave me some wax to use to tame it a bit for the day of. On top of the great styling, he was also a sweetheart.

Kao is the best. I just moved to LA and want to cry because I have to find another stylist. He is a magician with color and with hair in general. Go see him. Seriously.

I had been living in SF for close to two years and had yet to find someone I loved for my hair. A facebook deal came across my email one day for Salon KaoVey and I decided to give it a shot. I love the small setting and the one on one with Kao. He was so nice and super talkative and helped me decide where I wanted to go with my color.
My favorite part of the appointment was the styling! I always wore my hair straight and wanted to learn how to get a loose wavy curl. Kao took the time to teach me how to curl my own hair and now I get compliments everytime it is curly! He is the best!

I wanted highlights but didn’t know if I should do browns or reds. After thinking about it for a day, I picked browns. When I arrived at Salon Kaovey, Kao greeted me. I told him I wanted brown highlights but don’t know what kind of browns. I never had browns before. I always had reds.
He is a color genius! He’s funny and talkative.
My hightlights came out great. I love it. My hair trim was also great. I didn’t want it too short. Just a trim and he did what I wanted.
I would definitely go back to him. I already booked an appt with him. Thanks Kao!!!

Kao has been coloring and cutting my hair ever since he started in this business 10 years ago. Other reviewers are correct, you’ll have to schedule your appointments 4 – 5 weeks in advance. Although his schedules are now harder to accommodate me, I will never stop going to him for the latest hair style and color.
His salon is very clean and cozy. Has an intimate feel to it… it’s just you and the stylist! He’s a very thoughtful person who takes your likes and dislikes into consideration to determine what will look best on you. Till this day, I have not been disappointed.

I know Kao professionally because I have been hiring him as my hair styling teacher for a few months and I owe a lot of my confidence, hard skills, and success to him. I cannot recommend him more as a hair stylist or someone to learn from. I would continue to go if he was not super booked during the times I’m available to go see him. He makes traveling to SF worth it every time!
His space is beautiful, and most importantly, easily accessible from the Montgomery BART station; you enter a clean/​pristine space, but comfortable space.
As a teacher, his attention to detail is remarkable — pointing out my little habits that are not conducive to productivity and speed, and showing me how to do it, as many times as I need to, until I get it completely. He is patient, and kind — he is easy to talk to, and most importantly PASSIONATE about his craft. Even though his expectations of me were very high, he never made me feel like I cannot do it. I can’t believe how lucky I got to learn from him — I am so grateful he was my teacher.
His attention to detail, precision, kindness and passion makes him a remarkable hair dresser. What are you waiting for? Book an appointment with him now!

I really don’t want to write this review, because Kao Vey’s schedule is already packed and it’s obvious why — he is great at what he does!
He is the first stylist I am returning to for a second visit in a long time. I love Groupons for this reason — it lets you try out different people. Now I will gladly pay full price to get touchups.
Also, he played Gaga the entire time and we talked about dancing, music, etc… really cool and nice guy.
