Been coming here since I was a little girl, and that comforting taste still exists! This is a Korean-Chinese fusion-esque restaurant, but dishes lean towards Chinese. I recommend their dry friend chicken(wings) and the deep fried flounder! Both are juicy, tender, and extremely flavorful. Pair the sauce with rice and you’ll be scarfing your rice down as if you were drinking water! I do recommend ordering family style to share as portions are quite large. Street parking will be tough during peak dining hours. You’re better off saving time and parking in the parking garage. Service is decently friendly; pretty standard Chinese restaurant quality. Come for the food but not necessarily for the service and you’ll feel great!

Food portion was awesome! We ordered a little too much. We ordered the dry fried shrimp, twice cooked beef, a noodle dish, fried rice, and dried fried chicken wings. Our total was close to $ 80 but like I said, the portion was well worth it. It came with Kim chi and hot tea also! The reason why I’m only giving 3 stars is for customer service. I felt like we were rushed to order. We didn’t get a «welcome/how are you», all we got was«have a seat here because there’s a big party coming in», and there wasn’t. Never once did our server come see if we’re doing OK, or even offered us water or any other drinks. The only time we saw her was when she noticed we were done eating, to bring us our check and packed our left overs for us. One of the other server had her eyes stuck on the tv also.

Size of portion: 10 out of 10 Everything else: 1 out of 10 and that’s being generous. We ordered the twice cooked pork which was too sweet. The pork made up about 15−20% and the rest is vegetables. The Szechuan beef tasted like deep fried beef in some kind of honey sweet sauce. The beef is coated in flour and deep fried. What you think is beef, is actually bundles of just flour, deep fried. Yup. Can’t tell how much beef there was in that dish. I’d say only about 10% beef and the rest is flour batter deep fried. And even those were tasteless. Epic fail.

I was on the mission to Japanese cherry blossom festival. I was looking up places to go eat nearby, the reason why i don’t eat at the festival is because of the long lines, spending a fortune, and nothing new i want from the festival food vendors. When i walked in here, i was greeted and sat down to the table with the nearest outlet. When i sat down, i was automatically given a plate of pickled spicy cabbage, in other words kimchee. I have decided to order the dry fry chicken wings, and jan pon which is spicy korean seafood noodles soup. Dry fry chicken wings $ 13 for 15 pieces of wings. I kid not, it was like never ending wings, as much as i ate. I had about 10 wings and i was so satisfied! i had save the rest for a late night snack when i am buzzed. The presentation of the wings were outstanding, colorful and appetizing. The wings were dry with light orangey red sauce. It had tons of fine chopped up garlic, sautéed onions, and chives mixed in with it. The chicken wings consist of mostly middle part of the wings, versus the little drum stick on the wing. It was worth the buck for this dish. Next time I’m just sticking with this dish only, because i was filled with just this. I also gave jan pin a try too. The presentation was steaming wonderful hot. The first sip of the broth i was not impressed, i felt like it was kind of bland. i had to spice it up with the table red chili, which wasn’t too good. The noodles were ok, reminds me of soba noodles, but different. It consists a lot of veggies, mushrooms, some shrimps, clams, and slices of pork. I wasn’t impress with this dish, and i don’t think i will order it again. It was a big portion though. Overall service was ok, when i flag them down for water, boxes, or ticket, they were quick with it. The food portions was huge. The restaurant was clean and looks like a Chinese restaurant. I do like the little upstairs they have and in my mind i was thinking perfect for a uye party. Overall try the dry fry chicken wings because it was amazing. Thanks for reading and keep it saucy!

Me and my family were walking. around japan town. My sister recommend this restaurant because her co worker rave about this place. We walk in no one to greet us we sat down ourself. Everyone that came in before us got to order their food before us(mind that we came in first.) Hot sour soup= it had shrimp in it so i was surprise the soup. had flavor but didn’t taste like sweet and sour soup. Walnut shrimp= gross taste all.maynoise. Combination fried rice= it was just okay. Plum noodles= really good i think people came to order that dish i believe it’s the popular dish. Overall customer service sucks of course being a chinese restaurant what can you expect right.

San wang has been around for a long time, I think before I was even born. My mom and I used to live a couple blocks away so we came here pretty regularly but we stopped coming when ownership changed. I’ll still order for pick up sometimes but I’m not crazy about this place. Some of the food I’ll order is the black bean noodles, walnut shrimp, sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu, water dumplings or mushu pork. The food is decent and there’s really nothing special about this place overall.

Great tangsuyuk(sweet and sour pork or beef that’s deep fried)! Ja jang(noodles with black bean sauce) is also good. Used to drive here from Davis to get Koreanized Chinese food. Restroom is a spacious one room deal. Very accessible. Seating area is mostly wheelchair accessible, depending on how crowded it is. Second floor seating is not. In Japantown. Across from Daiso.

#33/2016 They did the right thing, I want to start with that. We wandered past a nearly full restaurant at 2pm and said, «Let’s have lunch.» A laminated review in their window indicated they’re known for their hand-pulled noodles. Yet, I shouldn’t have ignored the 4 foot tall cart piled high with dirty dishes wheeled past us to a full stop. The bus boy pushed the cart past us a moment later but it was a sign of things to come. Won ton soup was good, the dumplings were excellent with thin wrappers and delicious pork filling. This is where everything went very, very awry: the bus boy began bringing our dishes, first the walnut shrimp and bowl of steamed rice(I picked off a small bit of soy-stained rice off the edge of the bowl and put it aside.) I chose to ignore it, my mistake –again. I had two or three shrimp; they were very good but the thought of the bus boy clearing tables in between becoming our server, I began to stop eating. The water dumplings came, again delivered by the bus boy. I was ok until I remembered he’d gone from clearing tables to the dumplings set on our table. I stopped eating. I pushed away the Tsing Tao he’d also set down. I patiently waited to ask for the check. And in those two minutes, I thought about cross-contamination, Hep A, Zika and I complained to the harried but sweet manager who apologized and said two people had called in sick and. I stage whispered– though there was now only one table occupied, «That’s not my problem! This is unsanitary. Think of the contamination. I was going to take this home but I don’t even want to eat it!» She tried to explain he’d washed his hands and pointed to a sink a few feet away and I insisted, «But he didn’t! Not the first– or second or third time he brought our food in between clearing tables.» She sincerely apologized and said she’d talk to the owner in the kitchen. She came out quickly and said they wouldn’t charge us. Between our barely touching anything besides the soup, the decision was straightforward still, I appreciated they did the right thing. The restaurant was full at 2pm for a reason: The food would be very good under other circumstances. And I felt bad that a small family business would be crippled by two no-show employees. I thanked them, put a $ 10 tip on the table(likewise the right thing to do) and left.

Just revisited this place in Summer 2015. Must have eaten here when they first opened decades ago, plus their other Richmond restaurant(now closed). They were famous for their hand-crafted noodle demonstrations. Favorites include anything«dry-fried», like chicken, beef, shellfish etc… They have a seemingly set salty sauce full of garlic, scallions, and dried red peppers. So, the«dry-fried» dishes of food become monotonous, deep fried proteins tossed with brown sauce and picking out hot dried red chilies.

Pleasantly suprised at this restaurant that serves Korean food cooked by Chinese in Japantown! It’s like all of Asia is coming together, right now, over me. We came at 11:30 on a Wednesday, plenty of metered parking outside. I swear I’ve been to Japantown hundreds of times in my life and walked this area all the time and never realized this place existed. I came wanting to taste the chicken wings that were, according to various local circles, «better than San Tung» We walked and were greeted right away, lots of empty tables when we got there but all were full when we left. Straight away I ordered the Fried Chicken Wings, jajengmyeon(noodles with black bean sauce), and rice. The food came out relatively fast and we were eating within 15 minutes of ordering The Fried Chicken Wings come like 12 to an order and are tasty but not like what I imagined them to be. They aren’t glazed like San Tung but are deep fried then bathed in a sauce of garlic and something that gave it some heat. The Jajengmyeon were good, but this didn’t blow me away. Overall I thought that the food was good and the service was great but maybe because people hyped it up like it was a must eat, i was a little disappointed. That being said, the I would come here again. tl;dr Chicken isn’t San Tang, but come here if you want some Korean food in Japantown

Service is bad. Ordered pork and mushroom . Came out in 2 mins luke warm. Chow mein is bland and taste the grease. Chicken wings are good but that is what gave it one star. Not Chinese not Korean … Not sure what it is… North Korean ??? Border China ?? That is the only style I can think of. I haven’t had bad Asian food in a long time and I really regret coming here. Of all places in japantown this is bad! Oh the prices are extremely high for Chinese Korean !!

First went here a couple years ago, when my aunt introduced me. I would say the food here is pretty hit or miss. But I learned and only order the same things every time — the spicy shrimp and dry fried chicken wings. So for those two alone, it’s 4 stars lol. I live in the east bay, I wouldn’t drive to sf just to come here, but if I’m ever in the Japantown area, these are two dishes I crave. Add hot chili sauce for more kick! PS. Sorry for the double pics, forgot I posted them already and can’t remove the dupes. Must have been really good for me to post those twice lol!

So I came here because my friends said that they had delicious food and so we came. This place is a bit of a fusion with Korean and Chinese but the taste is on point. We got there and ordered the chicken wings, jampong, jajangmyun, and clams. They were all very delicious and I would definitely come here again. Definitely get the chicken wings! If you are a friend of garlic this is for you. I love the sauce with it and the toss it around with some minced garlic and onions and it is just heaven. Be warned however that you will have bad breath by the end of this. I loved the noodles for the jajangmyun because it had the right chewy texture. The sauce is okay it is a bit too sweet for me here but I would still order it again. The jampong and clams were both good and very standard as well. At the end we were given pieces of watermelon as dessert as well. The service was great and the servers were very kind and approachable.

Mmmm delicious Chinese food smack dab in the middle of Japantown. Relatively empty on a Wednesday night, with fast service and friendly waiters. GET: San Wang noodle soup: This is pretty much a combination noodle soup, with seafood, beef, veggies, and all sorts of goodies. It’s a little spicy and BIG. Next time I’d ask them to make it extra spicy ;) San Wang clams: pricier dish($ 17) but large portions and HUGE clams. Get the spicy option. Dry fried chicken wing: sort of like the chicken wings you get at San Tung, but less saucy. However the chicken is juicy and succulent. Minus one star — the dishes lacked a savory component that I was looking for. Also a little pricey for a Chinese restaurant. Regardless, I’ll probably come back for more clams!

This is a Chinese restaurant that caters to Koreans. This is my GOTO restaurant when I want some good food! 4 stars for their: –cha zang myun(black bean paste noodles, very saucy and tasty even though it might not look so appealing) –jang pong(spicy pepper soup with seafood, noodles, and vegetables) –fried hot pepper shrimp(a MUSTTRY dish at this restaurant! I ALWAYS order this dish every time I come here. So delicious!!) This a is golden spot in located in Japantown :)

Wasn’t too keen to eat at this place cause I thought it was Chinese food, but my dining partners wanted to eat here for lunch. Opening the menu was a surprise, since there were Korean dishes. We ordered the San Wang Soup Noodles for each of us, and what a big portion it was for the price. I couldn’t finish my bowl. It had basically everything you wanted if you didn’t know what you wanted to eat. Noodles, seafood, meat, and vegetables. And topping it off was 3 pieces of chili since I wanted mild spice. Noodles were soft, soup was tasty, and the rest was so filling. But the meat is nothing to rave about. Service was quick and helpful, although there was one waitress in the beginning that wasn’t too friendly since we wanted her to wipe down the table.

Decided to give this place a try, though being in Japantown, why we didn’t opt for a better-rated Japanese place is beyond me(I blame my brother who insisted on jja jang myun…) Though we were early for the dinner«rush,» the restaurant was completely empty and just old-fashioned in its décor. The ‘fish tank’ in the front was half filled with water and more like a seaweed/algae tank. That should have been enough to re-think the decision. We went with the staples of jja jang myun(black bean noodles), tang soo yook, and kkan poong gi. The jja jang myun was very average. The tang soo yook was too crispy in my opinion, lacking in the gooey sweet and sour sauce to soften it up. The kkang poong gi was just a bad choice altogether — it came out as regular wings with no sauce. The seasoning on it was decent but the wings themselves were so dry. Nothing was impressive except the old waitress who spoke Korean, Chinese, and English.

Really really good food! I would’ve never probably never tried this place if it wasn’t for my friend. The restaurant is owned by Koreans but they serve more Chinese food than Korean. My tip for you is to come during lunch because their lunch portions are very generous and a lot cheaper than ordering a la carte. My friend and I ordered the shrimp in spicy sauce and the fried chicken lunch that came with kimchi, House soup, and a hefty serving of rice. Both dishes were amazing!!! Their wings were so addicting, sweet with a little kick, and the wings do have a lot of meat on them! I almost prefer these to San tung. I would definitely come back again to try their plum sauce noodles that I saw everyone was ordering

I am amazed at the poor reviews this restaurant gets. This has been my family’s favorite restaurant for Sunday dinners for years. There are many specialty dishes here that I believe are sub par if ordered anywhere else. And just to clarify, this place is not a traditional Chinese or a traditional Korean restaurant. It’s a unique and delicious blend of both, and is pretty much it’s own genre of Asian cuisine. A personal favorite is the chicken wings. This is really one of my favorite dishes ever and I enjoy these so much more than San Tung. They are smothered in sauce/green beans that is just to die for, yum. Other favorites are the fried shrimp, fried beef(tangsooyuk), green beans, clams in black bean sauce, and sizzling rice soup. It’s best to eat here family style and order all of the above! A paragraph needs to be devoted to the jajangmyeon at this place. In all honesty, it is my favorite place to get jajangmyeon. There is so much flavor and the sauce is loaded with so many goodies like shrimp, onion, etc. When you finish all the noodles, you could mix this sauce with rice. Honestly, you could do this with ANY sauce at this restaurant. My family enjoys everything at this restaurant down to the kimchi they serve beforehand(not typical Korean style, but so good!). The service is good, especially now that my family and I are regulars. Seriously, this is a place that never disappoints me and my family. Perfect flavor, huge quantities, at a reasonable price. You should definitely give this place a visit if you’re a fan of(overhyped) San Tung and their chicken wings.
