Terrible products, terrible customer service! I ordered Plyboo Stiletto in brushed sahara. The floor was properly installed by a general contractor with many years of experience installing Teragren and other environmentally friendly flooring. The floor looks pretty but everyone who goes downstairs comes back up with splinters. My kids won’t play in the basement anymore, which for us was the whole point in redoing the basement! When I tried to discuss this problem with the distributor they told me they contacted Plyboo who said I must have damaged the flooring when I had it installed. The problem with my flooring is not in one location, but rather the whole 400 square feet! Anywhere I run a cotton ball over the surface it catches and there is a splinter waiting to dig itself into the heel of my 6 year old. It has been months since the flooring was installed and I still have no response and no solution. Terrible company, don’t waste your time and money with their products!

I went and visited their office. They acted like their product was one of a kind and gave me all the going Green stuff. Their prices were so high. Better off going to Home Depot or another flooring company.

For our recent remodel we decided to go with a bamboo floor as a sustainable alternative to hardwoods. Bamboo is not as exotic as it used to be and, for better or worse, places that sell bamboo are popping up everywhere. You can find it at Home Depot, carpet stores and lots of small stores that seem to compete only on price. After extensive research on the web, we learned that not all bamboo floors are the same. For example, bamboo that’s harvested early is softer(and cheaper) than bamboo that reaches maturity. But how would you know that? We weren’t going to take a chance on something as permanent as our floors, so we decided to go with a reputable brand instead of rock-bottom discount product. Our search led us to Teragren, EcoTimber and Smith & Fong. In the end, we went with Smith & Fong because they’re local, which meant we could talk with those guys in person instead of going through mail-order or a retailer. It’s been almost six months now, and we love our bamboo floor. It looks fabulous, brightens our room and is easy to care for. I can’t give Smith & Fong 5 stars because their customer service was somewhat disappointing. Their sales staff didn’t seem that interested in answering my questions. The company seems to get a lot of commercial business and therefore were either not used to or could not care less about walk-in customers who find them online, which is unfortunate. But the more serious issue I had with their service occurred when I went back to return some extra parts that were not needed. One of the guys found a stain on a wrapped package of stair pieces and wanted to charge me for the damage. He relented after I pointed out that the piece had never been used, so how could we have caused the blemish? Definitely not cool to blame the customer for what was their lapse in quality control. Customer service issues aside, we are very satisfied with Smith & Fong’s product.

Plyboo creates environmentally friendly and very stylish bamboo flooring and paneling. I’m looking to install some myself and every designer I’ve talked to recommends going to Plyboo.
