The beotch behind the counter is paranoid and extremely rude and I’m never going back there. I went in there and ordered #1, the milk tea. She started to make the drink but was very slow about it. I was the only customer there. At first I thought she didn’t understand my order. Due to the language barrier, I didn’t understand that she was upset because I happened to be writing on a piece of paper(she had no idea what I was writing). I could see that something was bothering her though. She said things to me in Chinese that I did not understand and didn’t make the drink. Another employee(the sausage counter person) said she didn’t want other people to know their prices. That’s ridiculous. Well, it was $ 2.50 for the plain milk tea and $ 3 for the red bean PT. BFD. I don’t need a piece of paper to remember that. TWODOLLARSANDFIFTYCENTS!!! She actually told me to leave the store(in Chinese). I could understand that much. I’ve never been treated that rudely and all I did was write on a piece of paper. Well, I lost my craving for pearl tea. It would be hilarious if other people went in there and started writing too. If you try to take a picture of the menu, I bet she’ll go ballistic. TWODOLLARSANDFIFTYCENTS!!!

In my unending search for the perfect pearl tea in San Francisco, I dropped by Tasty Tapioca on Sunday for a dessert pearl tea after I first put on 15 pounds at Ocean Restaurant across the way(well worth the extra 50 hours at the gym this will require). Sampling their green pearl milk tea, I was impressed. The pearl balls were a touch on the soggy side, but the tea flavor was strong, not too sweet, and I appreciated the finely ground ice to give it a bit more of a shake-y quality to it than a typical pearl tea. The pearl tea here — like so much of the excellent food on Clement st — is also shockingly cheap. If I were homeless, I would just pass out in the middle of the street and feast everyday on cheap dim sum and pearl tea, using change stolen from parking meters, of course. In any case, I recommend this place if you happen to be in the neighborhood; it’s quite good. However, strangely enough, I cannot find a pearl tea that serves the same caliber of authentic and quality pearl tea as Tea Era in Mountain View. But there must be such a place in SF! Sigh. The search continues.

This place has the best tapioca. I have the green milk tea with tapioca. It has a sort of flowery taste unlike the original tapioca milk tea which has a coffee flavor about it. Every time I go the owner knows what I want. The tapioca has the right amount of chew and is cooked fully so it’s almost like chewing a gummy bear. All the other places need to take a lesson from this place. Far superior than Quickly. They also have snacks there to purchase as well. The $ 0.50 off each drink makes it a great deal at $ 2.00 a drink for the basic tapioca drink.

I have yet to actually have a tapioca here. Then what reason, you ask, could I possibly have to review it? Because unbeknownst to you there is also a sausage counter in the back(the Food Lover’s Guide calls it Chung Fat Sausages, but I saw no such sign). Indeed, if you’ve been here you’ve probably noticed it – the entire back wall of the tiny store has chains of wrinkly-looking sausage dangling from hooks. I got a few links of the regular pork sausages, grilled ‘em up with some diced apples and served them with pancakes – super good, and definitely different from the German kind, but in a way that escapes my descriptive abilities right now. I just might have to come back and try all their varieties – and grab a tapioca while I’m at it. A must for sausage fans.

Who are all these amateurs reviewing a tapioca joint like it’s their first time! Suckas. Went in here today since I was in a rush and couldn’t get over to Golden Delight a block away. Got my usual Green Tea. The tapioca was well cooked but the tea was straight out of the jug and looked like it was bought down at Smart and Final. I wasn’t too impressed — average cup of tea. Three stars. Walk a block down the street for a better cup.

Best spot for tapioca on Clement! Their fruit-based ones are made with real fruit not powder. Tapioca balls here are soft and chewy with coating of sweetness on the outside. They give discounts. I got a 50 cents discount on one drink the other day!

Also known as Ying Yang Gourmet Foods, Tasty Tapioca is one helluva’n oasis on a hot day. When SF becomes a part of the heatwave, this place is where you go. If you buy two tapioca drinks(I recommend #11 or #14), you get a free milk tea drink or, 50 cents off each drink. That’s about $ 5. Shaved ice; very good tapioca. Be careful. the wide straws can suck up the tapioca. When you’ve sipped all the liquid, be extra careful because if you’re clumsy, a tapioca can shoot up like a bullet and fling straight into your windpipe or better yet, back out your nose. Just be careful. This place is in the heart of the lower Richmond District on Clement Street near all the other little stores. Service is quick and no messin’ around. Just tell them the number you want. They will ask you, «Would you like tapioca with that?» or «tapioca?» Just say, «Yes.» Not bad. There are plenty places like this. Because this one rescued me of my heat stroke today, I’ll give them a little blurb here.

Don’t be put off by the smell of dried Chinese meats in this place, you can actually get tapioca drinks here that don’t have meat in them. The drinks here are way better than the chain Quickly. Whoever came up with the idea of marrying tapioca balls with refreshing beverages I would like to put then in the«crazy genius» category. Or the«paint huffer» category. Either way, I’d like to shake his hand.
