Four star for food/value Three star for on premise — ordering ahead or getting delivery next time Yummy grilled cheese, but come on, who messes up melted cheese on buttered carbs, a bit pricey, and not quick Looks like same kitchen does in person and online(pick up or delivery) orders so the shop might be empty but you still wait 15 min while bags of grilled cheeses go out the door Was told lunch line is long, so made it at 11:30 Fri with no one waiting to order, one or two seats left of their small counter space, line out door by 11:45 and got sandwich soon after. $ 13 for mushroom grilled cheese($ 11 + $ 2 for avocado), bit much imho

I accidentally checked into this place when I meant to check into the other location, but I can still say the grilled cheeses are AMAZING! So mouthwatering and the bread is toasted and buttered to absolute perfection. And this is coming from a person who thinks grilled cheeses are just«eh.»

I used to eat so many grilled cheese sandwiches in college. Melted cheese between two slices of bread, you just can’t go wrong with that. It’s about 2 – 3 blocks from the ball park so if you like your grilled cheese, and you aint trying to eat mediocre ball park food, this is the place for you! They have a half sandwich half soup option and because the soup of the day was french onion, and because I LOVE french onion soup, I went halfsies. I ordered the Mushroom with Gruyère Grilled Cheese. It was really good so I would definitely recommend this sandwich if you’re a mushroom kind of person. The soup was just okay, but I should have expected that coming form a grilled cheese restaurant. Me and my girlies also shared an order of the Daily Mac n Cheese which was with ham that day, and that was pretty good too. And they also give you an apple with your meal, which I think is great because it balances out all the cheesiness. The restaurant is also clean with cute décor. I remember seeing a chalkboard filled with funny cheese puns. The only one I remember is «Brie Willie.» Hahaha I liked that one. Yes, I give this place my thumbs up!

I had been wanting to try this place for the longest time and today was finally the day that I did. Like a lot of people, I grew up eating grilled cheese sandwiches(among other things) and I like it when a restaurant/eatery can take a simple, classic meal and get creative with it. Facts: * You can order specialty sandwiches or build your own(depending upon their available ingredients). * There is sparse indoor seating and extensive outdoor seating. * You go inside, place your order with the cashier, give them your name, pay and then they’ll call you when your order is ready. * In addition to your order, they give you several napkins and a complimentary apple(if you wish). * They serve breakfast and lunch. * Aside from sandwiches, you can get soups, salads and baked goods. Pros: + I ordered the club turkey. That thing was f***ing delicious. It was warm, filled with plenty of turkey and cheese and, ultimately, was very filling. + The prices that you see on the menu are the exact prices you pay. As emphasized on their website, all taxes and miscellaneous fees are factored in and accounted for so that there are no unpleasant surprises. I like honesty and transparency. + Both the cashier and the lady who handed me my order were friendly. + As also emphasized on what they have posted on their wall, they take good care of their employees. San Francisco, as any sane person knows, is an expensive place to live. The owners of this establishment are mindful of this and provide their employees with full benefits and a livable wage. Hats off to them for that. Cons: — With the lunch crowd present, it took about 20 minutes for my sandwich to be prepared. Wait times, even for a simple sandwich, will likely be long. — For the price, I was expecting my sandwich to be a little larger than what I got. It’s not too big of deal though because it was still very filling. Overall, I was impressed and I can definitely see myself returning. 4 stars

Great little grilled cheese shop. Pretty good selection of different sandwiches. The staff was very friendly and courteous. I’ll definitely go again when I’m dying for a grilled cheese. Very fast service too.

A small hipster-ish spot in SoMa, this is a great lunch option. The space is small and has limited seating inside. There are a few tables outside. The grilled cheese itself(opted for the Jalapeño Popper) was tasty and delivered to my table quickly. Along the window, there sit half a dozen trophies from several years of the«Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational,» which is cute. The menu also offers breakfast options and handmade sodas. I’d recommend this place for anyone in the area.

Saw this place while at a brewery across the street. Was too full to try it that day but made a special trip on our last vacation in the city to try the Mac n cheese sandwich. Man glad we did because it was amazing! We ordered the Mac n Cheese sandwich with bacon. Total was around $ 12 and trust me it was enough to share. Came with a nice apple as well. I thought it was so good. It was basically man n cheese with bacon on a sourdough bread. A perfect combo. The only thing annoying is that it took a while for the sandwich to be made. I chalked it up to they must have made fresh Mac n Cheese and I’ll take that trade off any day of the week. Overall The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen is a perfect lunch spot in SF. I’d like to try more sandwiches in the future but the Mac n Cheese will stay in my me, or for a long time!

My bf and I came here for a quick meal. We split the mac n cheese grilled cheese($ 10) and the club turkey with bacon($ 11.5). The orders came out pretty quickly and I was pleased to see the sandwiches came with apples! I ate half of the mac n cheese sandwich first and I loved it! The bf said it could’ve been cheesier and I agree. I really liked the grilled sourdough because it added a good crunch to the sandwich. I liked the mac n cheese better than the club turkey. The club turkey seemed like a normal sandwich, just grilled… They could’ve made it cheesier or stuffed it with more items for the $ 11 price tag. I’m glad I finally got to try this place! If i’m in the area again I would return just for the mac and cheese sammy!

Went early in the morning for the first time to try out the famous mac and cheese sandwich along with the turkey/bacon! What can I say? Very simple ingredients, yet so delicious in every bite. Also comes with an apple for your guilty pleasures. Complementary water on the side as well. Easily a ten dollar meal though. These sandwiches are leaning more on the expensive side to me. But if you can afford it, why not let it fly… shoot, I’ll come here a couple times a week if I was always in the neighborhood. All in all, if you haven’t tried this place out yet, you should! They definitely have a lot of varieties on their menu you can choose from.

If you have grilled cheese sandwiches and love trying new and differen forms of grilled cheese sandwiches, then this is the spot for you! This place offers many different types of grilled cheese sandwiches that have the additions of veggies and meat to complement the type of cheese. One of my favorites include the Mushroom Gruyère: the addition of potatoes, thyme, and caramelized onions with the mushrooms and gruyère make it extremely bold in flavor. I normally hate onions but the caramelization of the onions makes it super yummy! It is definitely something different from your classic grilled cheese. Some of my other favorites include the club turkey and foghorn leghorn, but honestly, you cannot go wrong with any of the grilled cheese sandwiches they have. Each sandwich also comes with creamy tomato soup and their fruit of the day. Grilled cheese + tomato soup = deadly combo that will have you wanting to come back for more. The place is on the smaller side so there is more seating outside. Parking can be somewhat difficult as it is located in a very busy neighborhood but DEFINITELY worth coming here to try! A great place to grab lunch with friends and enjoy memories of childhood with your«upgraded» grilled cheese sandwich :)

For lunch… I was not impressed: the food taste is ok, and the food portions are so small! Had to have another lunch once I got home. Anyway, the rest is fine including service(self-service), seating(inside u’re like seated in a bar… without any alcoholic beverage). Next time, might try them for breakfast(there must be something they’re good at do that the existing rating is 4 over 5!)

Katie S. introduced me to AGCK a few years ago and I can’t thank her enough! I wish I could visit this place more often — what about expanding to the Pacific Northwest? Anyway, you just can’t go wrong with the Mousetrap. It is what an adult version of a childhood classic should be without going too crazy! Others that I’ve tried include the Mushroom Gruyère and Club Turkey. If you don’t order the awesome smokey tomato soup, then you are wrong and should unfriend me immediately! I want to try the Mac N Cheese Grilled Cheese on my next visit! Their regular mac and cheese is awesome, but in a sandwich? Yeah, definitely got to check that out! Oh, you should definitely try the jalapeño poppers, too! As one would expect with popular Bay Area eateries, there is always a line to queue in. If you happen to be patient and wait for seating, you can’t beat eating outside on a sunny day! ___ | | And there are twenty more waiting in line inside? | | / | | O O O O O | | /| \ /| \ /| \ /| \ /| \ |__| /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ _____________________ GOODTHINGSCOMETO THOSEWHOWAIT

I was never a huge fan of getting grilled cheese, but this place proved me wrong. I came here with a friend for a late lunch. I ordered the Breakfast Piglet and also a tomato soup. I loved it, it had a lot of flavor. My grilled cheese consist of cheddar, artisan cured ham, apple mustard, rosemary butter. When I took a bite, it was so cheesy, that’s when you know its a good sandwich. The soup was good also, it can be a great compliment which the sandwich as well as a dip.

This is probably the BEST grilled cheese sandwich I’ve ever had! I’m from LA and I’ve had plenty of grilled cheese sandwiches. But SF, you just convinced me! I ordered the mac & cheese grilled cheese sandwich. I LOVE my mac & cheese and I just had to try it for myself! Price is ok($ 10) but at least they already included tax & the mandatory city fee on the price. Decent portion. It comes with an apple, which I though it was nice and a different taste on your palate. The mac & cheese grilled cheese sandwich was AMAZING. Mac & cheese was rich and creamy!!! Definitely not your boring Kraft’s mac and cheese smothered between 2 slices of bread. The bread was crisp to perfection in butter. I devoured it! I can’t wait to try more of their sandwiches when I come back to SF!

I am sure this place is a 5 star establishment but until I try one of their grilled cheese creations, I am left w/cheese yearnings unfulfilled. Gavin and I were in the city to catch the Giants game. Our season is ending. too soon as a matter of fact but you know, it’s an odd year. Anyway. It was getting past 11AM and I wanted Gavin to have lunch prior to getting into the ballpark. I was hungry, too but nothing on the menu was friendly towards my macros settings. I ordered the special macaroni and cheese that day — Turkey Macaroni and Cheese. Not a side dish and definitely a decent portion to share if you are health conscious. Gavin ate half and I boxed the remaining half into the game. Eating half of that during the bottom of the 3rd inning didn’t give me tons of guilt. The dish is creamy and rich. I must say that their macaroni and cheese wins best comfort food at an affordable price. Only one thing I did not like was their line/ordering system. If you need a box, a cup, or whatever. you usually have to stand in line and wait you’d turn. I know I am spoiled.

Woah. Gluten-free bread done LEGIT here, folks. Get it. I got the straight up Mouse Trap on the GF bread and it was simply stacked. Huge grainy slices of bread, that don’t taste like sawdust, perhaps soaked in butter, just barely holding in a pile of cheese. I could only do half at a time because it was so big. Usually I don’t even miss bread and tend to opt out of the GF substitutes, because most of the time they’re garbage. Not here. So next time I’m fixin for some faux-glutens, I’m coming here. Oh yes I am.

Four of us ate here before watching a Giants game. Who doesn’t love grilled cheese?! Unless you’re vegan and/or have a lactose allergy. ;) Anyway, the menu selection is pretty sweet(prices are a little high) and they sell $ 4 mimosas! I ordered the Mac & Cheese Grilled Cheese $ 10 and smoky tomato soup $ 5 — sandwich was bland and the soup wasn’t what I had expected, very watery. The female cashier seemed flustered by the line of customers and the male food runner seemed irritated when one of us asked him for a side of mustard. «I’ll bring it this time, but we prefer you to order sauces in line.» OK, buddy. Would I eat here again? Probably not, but the food filled us up and is conveniently located by AT&T Park.

Food stand at outsidelands. Maple bacon brussel sprouts — 5⁄5 — Best brussel sprouts I’ve had in the city. Very crispy and delicious. Overall, brussel sprouts are«as good as it gets.»

I was absolutely STARVING when I finally made the trek over here with my boyfriend. We ordered and shared the mushroom gruyère, the mac n cheese grilled cheese, and the tomato soup. Between the two of us we could hardly finish all of it! We both absolutely loved the mac n cheese grilled cheese. Had so much flavor, and I really enjoyed the noodles. Cheese was wonderfully melted, and bread was buttered and grilled to perfection. The mushroom gruyère was good, but did not compare to the mac n cheese sandwich. It somehow seemed to have less flavor, even though it had more ingredients. Either way, it was still a great sandwich. The soup was also wonderful — but I probably wouldn’t order again. I thought the sandwiches were good enough without the soup and I was too full to finish the bowl. We both loved this place and would definitely come back. We chose to sat inside on a Sunday just because it was so windy outside, but the little patio outside is very cute!
