Perfect, original, and unique craft cocktails in the US. I’ve been to many speakeasy and cocktail bars in New York, Miami, LA, Dallas, New Orleans, and SF, this place is one of the best custom made drinks. You will enjoy the taste and the entire process that Mike, the bartender, crafts your drinks guarantee!!!

This is one of my favorite spots in all SF. I’ll keep it short and won’t ruin the surprise for you. Anybody who doesn’t like this place most likely is used to drink in dive bars or chillis happy hour.

Stumbled upon this place after reading Unilocal reviews and have zero regrets. The Butterfly Lounge is a small yet comfortable hotel lounge with rich San Francisco character. Mike, the bartender, handcrafts cocktails to your pleasing, making you feel like you have a personal mixologist. The bar staff and concierge are also very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos of the cocktails since I was busy drinking, but, trust me, they’re delicious.

Huge fan of well done personal cocktails and they crushed it. They make on point traditional cocktails, but I’m a fan of the bartender that can get creative and Mike nailed it.

The Butterfly Lounge has the best mixologist, Mike. He will ask you a few questions about what you like and make you a truly unique cocktail. He made me a drink with gin, mango, egg white, cinnamon with dried roses on top. It was beautiful and tasty! He is a true artist. I’m definitely returning the best time I’m in San Francisco.

Mike, the bartender at the butterfly lounge is a mixologist genius. Probably the best bartender I’ve ever experienced. I’ve returned to the bar several times and every drink he’s made has been carefully and uniquely crafted using at least 10 different ingredients. Each drink is a masterpiece concocted from mikes special selection of spirits, fruits, herbs, essences, bitters and garnishes and almost always involve some combination of beakers, dry ice and a blow torch. Don’t go with a drink in mind. Just let him surprise you and enjoy the show. You won’t be disappointed.

setting was weird, it’s like an in between lounge between the hotel reception and the restaurant that it leads into
drinks were underwhelming, but i think the mixologist who is garnering the rave reviews wasn’t there that day, as the guy there had no idea what he was doing. gave me some kind of weird fruity pink fizz drink when i asked for a bartender’s choice, either he’s bad at his job or i’m deeply in denial about my love for medicore fruity fizz drinks

I had a great drink. Loved the atmosphere and nice that they have yummy bar snacks. However, I went expecting an expert bartender based on the reviews I read. The very nice bartender we got poured a strong drink. But he was no expert bartender– he didn’t have any idea what mezcal is. Like not even a clue what type of booze it is. I don’t think that was Mike.

Mike Hugo Talosig Calalay is a pure mixologist! One of the best! Prices are good. Food is good

Definitely a place you need to try! Mike’s drinks are above and beyond fantastic!!! Can’t say enough how wonderful the drinks are. Just let him know what flavor a you like and he’ll make a masterpiece!

The Butterfly Lounge and it’s resident bartender Mike Hugo are what I would call a San Francisco hidden gem. If you’re ready to drink some SEEIOUSLY good cocktails all made from scratch… This is the place to go. Mike is not your average bartender. The way he approaches his craft is unlike anything in the city. This is a no menu bar. Every drink is customized to what you’re in the mood for, and trust me he will take the time to ask you what you want. He creates right on the spot, just like a Chef in a kitchen, building his flavors as he gets to know what you dig. He gives you an experience, building a the cocktail with you… while providing not just a delicious drink but history, prose, banter, and hands on old school bartender tips to creating and understanding the elements of good flavor and quality. Mike is the bar, and you’ll get to witness his. skills and his obvious passion for what he does. He also is a an excellent entertainer. He’s got all the latest gadgets and bar nerd essentials /​techniques that he experiments with daily. You won’t be bored or disappointed. It is an intimate bar, so don’t come here looking for a crowd. But the people who you do see there are his locals who definitely know what’s up. A great place for couples and people drinking solo. Please be selective with who you bring. It is a home for a lot of people, and how Mike has transformed this bar is sacred for him and his regulars. That’s why they don’t spread the word. (so I hear) One of the most underrated bars I the city, hands down. Mike is a true legend.

This review is for Mike the bartender in the butterfly lounge. Also the burger at the restaurant is pretty dang tasty too.
This is the most enticing cocktail bar I’ve found in the city. Mike will concoct something fabulous every chance he gets. Come in and ask him to make something he’s feeling, if you have a certain alcohol in mind, he’ll make that happen too.
I’ve had bourbon soaked pineapples, coffee heat-​roasted whiskeys, refreshing gin drinks, chive inspired cocktails, egg white thinkened drinks and options I cannot recall, but know I’ve never been disappointed.. He uses quality greens, ginger, wood burned smoke, torched fruits, and habanero peppers. If you’re paying for a cocktail in San Francisco and Mike didn’t produce it, I feel like you’ve made a mistake.
Please be patient if there’s more than 5 or so persons waiting for cocktails, he’s alone but sacrificing quality would be the most depressing thing that could happen to this bar

The drinks are amazing. The atmosphere you cant beat. Very historic and relaxed. Mike, the bartender, is pretty much awesome. Prices aren’t terrible considering how much love is spent on each drink. I highly recommend this place.

Mike has an unusual skill. Let him loose and enjoy unique concoctions that will surprise you from the first to last sip.

My husband and I went into the bar and was wowed by Mike’s knowledge of drinks. Great drinks!
