This is in regards to the stand at the Concord Tuesday farmers market. and it goes a little something like this: An insult to any real fallafel in on the planet! The first time I got the pita and I said I would not be going back. But then I did go back(Im an idiot and a glutton for punishment — not to mention there is a lack of good selection in the area) and decided that because the wrap looked better I should give it a try. A much better value, unfortunately its no better and in fact maybe even worse. The fallafel has a ton of vegetables any real fallafel ball would consider trashy company. The hummus, Tahini, cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce are all welcome, but pickles, cabbage and sauerkraut don’t fit well along with the overly tanic(a sharp astringent taste; the taste experience when a substance causes the mouth to pucker) hot sauce he dumps in it. So if your a purist like me and you cross paths with this vendor ask for just what you want and watch him so as to not let him destroy your food with a ton of lesser vegetable fillers. that have no place on a fallafel. And after I ate it I did not feel«RIGHT.»

The Flying Falafel is a new unique offering in the Mission. Serving in the front of Roxy’s coffee bar, The Flying Falafel falafel sandwich is a fluffy whole wheat pita stuffed with mini-falafel balls and fresh crunchy vegetables. The falafel comes in 3 flavors of sesame, parsley, and spicy. vegy options include fresh and pickled cucumbers, fresh and picked cabbage(cole slaw), fresh shredded carrots, and fresh sliced tomato. Everything is finely sliced or shredded. Combined with the mini falafels and home made tahini sauce, they all mix together nicely so that there’s a lively combination of flavors in every bite. It’s the best quick and healthy alternative to a burrito Mission!

Hey – it says this is closed but this guy comes to the sunnyvale farmers market all the time! I thought it was a pretty good falafel, everything came out super duper hot and tasty, and the guy who put our falafel together was hilarious and even juggled our falafel balls into our pita before it got to us! What’s not to love?(I won’t lie, the guy reminds me of the Zohan.)

Well since the Earth Island Farmers Market is now closed, you guys won’t get to taste the mediocre falafels of The Flying Falafel in San Francisco. Perhaps their other locations…(check online if you really want to go here!) With a million and one falafel joints in Los Angeles, I can definitely say that this place is not the place to go. Their pita bread is decent, and their hummus falls below par. The quality of their falafels vary, as I’ve had some good, flavorful ones, and some dry, over fried lumps. There’s better out there.

First, let me say I am a huge fan of Falafel Drive-In which I have not yet reviewed, because they’ve already been featured on Food Network. Need I say more? So, The Flying Falafels – Delicious! These have more of a home-made taste than the Falafel Drive-In. Large portions, choice of flavors and sauces, a nice assortment of very fresh veggies and soft, fresh bread. I found their stand at the Sunnyvale Farmer’s Market and went 2 weeks in a row just because I found myself thinking about them all week, but the second time we went, the guy messed up my order about 4 times and I had to keep going back to get it right. Great food, but their service stopped me from returning solely for their falafels.

My eyes fell upon this booth at the Island Earth Farmer’s Market and decided to join the growing line of patrons. The server guy talked a mile a minute and prepared the food with pizazz. He also said«thanks for flying with us» after he handed me my lunch. haha It was pretty entertaining but now about the food… $ 7 for a pita pocket with falafel or $ 4.50 for a snacker size. I was starving so I ordered the pocket. I loved that he offered whole wheat pita and kept it soft/warm for added enjoyability. =) Toppings included carrots, lettuce, red cabbage, cucumbers, and something that looked like sauerkraut. I went all out and asked him to fill my pita with everything! The falafel(basically fried balls of mashed chickpeas and spices) was awesome… he had spicy and organic sesame flavors and gave me a mix of both. Delightfully crunchy on the outside and packed with incredible flavor on the inside… they were perfectly fried/seasoned! The sesame one was a little more crunchy and the spicy one wasn’t spicy at all though. The thick and creamy tahini sauce made from sesame seed paste that topped everything went really well with the falafel and gave some moisture to the pita. I devoured the whole pocket while walking back to work… mmm, mmm, mmm!

Super cheap, super friendly, good portions for the price. It’s fresh, and the falafel is delicious.
