The name of this salon could not be more befitting. The owners are Tom & Thomas. Tom took care of my consultation. He really listened & did not rush through it. Professional & sweet. We booked an appointment for later in the week. Thomas did my color. Wanting a deeper blonde than I’ve been sporting lately, he really took the time & went the extra mile to accomplish that«perfect shade.» He fully embraced the challenge of turning my flat, bright blonde into a rich, multidimensional one. Love. What I ultimately want will take several visits to achieve, but this first instrumental & «base» process could not have been handled w more care & consideration, or more thoroughly & professionally. Their Girl Friday, Jane, gave me a rock star blow out. This is no easy task. And it was all done w a smile. Now, the salon mascots. 2 lovable & über cute pooches, Penny & Jake. Jake snuggled on my lap during my shampoo. Too sweet. I had expectations going in, &TBSH exceeded all of them. When a woman has beautiful & sexy hair, guess what? She feels beautiful & sexy. And, I most certainly walked out of this salon w megawatt beautiful & sexy hair. Compliment from a total stranger on the street & all. 5 stars.

Lauren cut my long hair and did an amazing job, she’s the best! Will definitely be going back in a few months. She’s one of those hair stylists that just gets it and knows exactly what you’re looking for. A gem!

They were very unfriendly to a walk in. I just needed a clipper cut. I am a guy and simple. So they not only said no but if I even was willing to come back in 2 hours it would have been $ 50. For a 3⁄2. I don’t think so.

Hands down, the best hair salon experience thus far! Went here for my 30th birthday to get a very different and bold cut. Chopped off about 6 – 8 inches. I’ve been scared to get my hair cut short and haven’t had it short since 3rd grade! Both Tom’s were attentive, super friendly, and are big perfectionists. Even though I was the last appointment for the day, they took their time and never made me feel like I was a bother. These guys are top notch and the doggies on your lap while getting a cut is just another bonus! You honestly get what you pay for. My hair looks amazing even almost a week after the cut. It doesn’t look different after I washed and styled it myself. I’ve never felt this great about my hair… and I’ve received more compliments than ever. Please see both Toms for a special treat for yourself because every woman deserves that! Otherwise, you’re really missing out.

Lauren is amazing at blow drying!!! Not only is the space so hip, comfortable, staff friendly and relaxing I walked out with a long lasting bouncy blow dry. Lauren is so quick too. They also carry my favorite Rene Furterer products! Go to see Lauren for a blow dry, you’ll be thrilled with the results.

Wow! Tom Songin did an amazing job on my hair! I love this place and all the crew — Joey, Tom, Tom and Lauren! Everytime I come to this place, it’s like coming home. Everyone is so lovely and talented. Tom S. is not a hair stylist. He is an artist! If you can get an appointment with him, you will be transformed. Everyone who works here is creative, talented and lovely.

I’m convinced that Lauren is actually some kind of angel. I was visiting my former Northern California home last month and could not get my hair to cooperate(I have an abundance of thick, wavy hair). I knew that a series of bad cuts since moving the Texas last year had caught up with me. As I walked through North Beach, I was thinking about whether any salon might help me before dinner with friends that night. This seemed unlikely, as good stylists are always booked up — or so I thought. At just that moment, I stopped at the corner of Greenwich and Powell and zeroed in on Tom’s Beautiful Hair salon — all gorgeous white and classic San Francisco. I memorizing the name, thinking I’d call them to inquire. But then Lauren came out — like an angel reading my thoughts — and asked what was on my mind. I said my hair was a disaster. I pulled out the ponytail. I think she could see how down I was. There was a soothing compassion in her demeanor along with the authority of a stylist who knows what she’s doing that made me feel at ease — and this is before I even entered the salon for our consultation! She said she’d had a cancellation and invited me in. I followed my intuition. Lauren immediately identified the problems and articulated what needed to be done. I knew I could trust her, that she was an artist in all the best senses of the word. As she went about trimming and conditioning and styling, I really appreciated the way she gave specific direction on what to do back in Texas in terms of conditioning, styling, and finding the right stylist. However, I have half a mind to just fly to San Francisco every two months and have Lauren do my hair from now on! This may sound like a cliché, but I truly did feel like a new woman when I walked out of that salon. The trim was perfect, the conditioning added new life to my hair, and the quality time spent with Lauren lifted my spirits. It was one of the best encounters of my trip! Most importantly, I’ve been able to style it perfectly ever since returning to Texas. It is no longer a disaster! The whole experience with Lauren in Tom’s Beautiful Hair salon was one of the most positive salon experiences I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this talented stylist. She recently relocated from Philadelphia, and Philadelphia’s loss is San Francisco’s tremendous gain.

Top notch cut. Top notch color. Top notch taste. Top notch style. And how fun that they’re now opening early for morning blow outs! No matter how beautiful you are coming in, you are ALWAYS more beautiful going out.

Lauren fits perfectly into this beautifully immaculate and spacious salon in North Beach. Her cutting technique is unlike any stylist I’ve been to over the years. A natural with the scissors. Perfect color, gorgeous styling. She truly loves her work, which translates in a hugely obvious way. What I love most is that she cares deeply about my hair and has put me on a regimen that has transformed my overly processed locks in just a few short weeks. My hair has never looked or felt so healthy and full of life + shine.

This place is the best hair salon in SF! Clean, relaxed, friendly –I am as dedicated to this hair salon as it comes. I even moved across town to the Mission and still make the trek to have Cat cut and color my precious, naturally brunette, hair. I have been seeing Cat for about two years now. Finding her was a chance encounter I had with the salon… It was every girl’s beauty nightmare. A trendsetter before the trend a.k.a. Me, needed ombré hair so badly that it hurt. I visited two other hair salons in SF, thru friend recommendations, toting photos of model, Erin Wasson, asking hair stylists to color my hair like hers. No one had heard of «Ombré Hair» before –and the results showed. Salon 1: I walked out with next to nothing color –so pist. Salon 2: I walked out with a full head of highlights and a brand new hair color that was terrifying –I went from dark brunette to full BLONDE. This looked nothing like Erin! I was almost broke from bad hair color, now blonde AND literally had no where to turn to fix this mess… But there was that salon down the street from my apartment. I made an appointment with Cat. Cat was the shining halo to my shitstorm of blonde hair. With her magical coloring skills she not only corrected my hair but gave me the ombré hair I was looking for! Of course it took two visits, since my hair had had so much frying done to it. But in one week I went from full blonde to OMBRE. I am never cheating on Cat or Tom’s Beautiful Hair. And I think most of their hair patrons would agree with me.

Tom’s Beautiful Hair caught my eye as I was in San Francisco on my honeymoon. My husband and I were wandering around shopping and sampling coffee shops, when I saw my reflection in a store window. We had been surfing in Malibu the day before and the salt water had taken a toll on my hair. I needed to get it washed out(hotel shampoo wasn’t doing the trick for me) and get it luxuriously blown out. I saw Tom’s Beautiful Hair along our travels and decided to check and see if they had any openings for a blowout. They did! It was a lovely salon experience and Tom and Thomas were wonderful to chat with! They not only did a wonderful job on my hair but also kept me laughing but also warm with the two cute French Bulldogs who sat on my lap while my hair was being blow-dried. If I ever need to get my hair done when I am back in San Francisco I will definitely be stopping here. Fabulous!!! xoxo

So I waited a week to write a review for Tom’s as i REALLY wanted to like this place since its cute and right by my new apartment. While the pricing was quite a bit more than I usually pay(my amazing salon in new orleans had typical low new orleans pricing and I return each time i visit NOLA, and i had a great deal at my old russian hill salon), I was attending a gala and figured I’d give this a try. From the get go I was frustrated, as I had to put my dog in the car since there were other dogs there(which ok, my old salon had a live in dog also who wasn’t especially fond of my pomeranian but they co-existed whenever I came… plus its not like he couldnt sit in my lap but whatever)…then they wanted me to sign a damage waiver, basically«if we ruin your hair/it falls out its due to the condition of your hair and not our fault.» I went to law school, i get the liability issue but never once in my entire experience of coloring my hair since age 14 have I EVER had to sign such a waiver, which was suspect. Throughout the experience I was told how damaged my hair is and how naturally THEY can make it phenomenal and restore its health(sadly I’ve fallen for this one and bought infinite hair products at various salon’s vehement suggestions over the years, so by now I’ve wisened up and know that unless they plan to do a full hair transplant there is nothing they can do to «save» my hair). By the end of my partial foil, as I had switched my part to the other side of my head, I had MORE roots than I came in with! As expected, Tom, the owner raved about how fabulous it looked, but as I am not blind and had a gala that night, I was clearly displeased. Tom himself threw in a couple foils, adding on more time sitting there in the salon, and when those were removed the black roots were still present. I was told that due to the condition of my hair it was simply impossible to get my roots colored. Odd, given that everywhere I’ve gone in the past few years has been able to get my roots quite well(with the exception of one place about a year ago). As I actually POSTPONED my appt at Toms due to the fact that my roots weren’t yet bad at the time of my originally scheduled appt due to the phenomenal job I had done in NOLA weeks prior, clearly this excuse is not only infuriating, but also untrue. Needless to say, i had to put baby powder on my black roots that night for the gala, and had I not gone to Toms at all and kept my part on the original side I would have been better off(and richer). On a side note, someone was photographing for google throughout my hair experience, and Tom & co. didnt ask if we minded our photographs being taken with foils in our hair/looking atrocious, which I found relatively unprofessional. That said, my actual initial colorist/stylist Cat, while she did not get my roots(as previously mentioned), was quite nice and I really REALLY wanted to leave with blonde roots so I could return in the future.

Things were a little difficult, I went in and asked if they took drop-ins and they told me they normally did but couldn’t that day because they were too busy. I called them a couple of times to make an appointment, so I suggest calling them ahead of time instead of just wakling in. Cat, who cut my hair, was extremely nice and I love it when the person cutting my hair actually talks to me. The haircut was really nice although they felt the need to wash my hair before my cut(even though I had washed it before going there). The haircut turned out nice but I didn’t ask how much it was going to cost, nor did I see any prices posted anywhere. Now I’m used to paying $ 15 for a haircut and recently moving to SF, I didn’t know how much it was actually going to be, but went here cause it is down the street from my apartment. BAM! Tom wrote on a big sheet of paper my name with $ 50 written on it(why waste a piece of paper to write my name and«$ 50» on it anyways, save a tree) Oh and they don’t accept credit cards, how are you going to charge someone $ 50 for a haircut and not accept credit cards? Maybe its just me but I usually prefer to pay with card and I don’t always carry that much cash. I think charging $ 50 for a guy’s haircut is insane. Bottom line, it probably be worth it if I was someone who got their haircut every other month, but I need to get my hair cut about every month, too pricey for my taste but the atmosphere and the people were really nice.

I had been going to Oxenrose for my cuts, but I decided it was time to change salons after leaving last time on a caffeine high and feeling like I had just come from a nightclub. I wanted something calming and more spa-like. Tom’s is in my neighborhood and it always looked so… zen. I had a wonderful experience here, between the cut, the people, the calming space and the pet therapy. My hair was about shoulder-length when I went in for a cut. Not being attached to my hair at all(it grows back, people) I told Tom, «just do whatever you think will look good.» He cut it shorter than I’ve ever had it before and I LOVE it! After a fabulous blow-out and laying down a hefty sum, I was on my way. But it was totally worth the money and by far the best haircut and the best salon experience I have ever had.
