Decent space in the back for group dinners, organizational/corporate events or meetings, etc. I had a meeting here for work and we had a sampling of a lot of different food items, including their chips and salsa, guacamole, empanadas(chicken and veggie versions), tacos with carnitas or chicken. Everything was about average(3 stars). Their version of brussel sprouts looked interesting though.

I wish I could give zero stars! The service was HORRIBLE! The waitress was beyond rude. I tried taking to he manager before we left but he or she was not available. DONOT go here. They also ran out of guacamole– when one of our friends made a joke the waitress practically snapped at him and rolled her eyes! And the food is OK– nothing special at all.

Walked into this place after a daytime Giants/Brewers game. Super slow service but understandable with the hoards of people leaving the ballpark, but still VERY slow service. The food that finally came was good, especially the carnitas. It could have come with a few more corn tortillas(we got a few more once we flagged down the waiter). The guacamole wasn’t bad, but rather uninspired. The waiter was very kind when he finally checked on us, apologized for the slow service, and comped the two margaritas we ordered. My friend ordered a second margarita while I waited. Just before I ordered my second drink, I noticed a big crack in my margarita glass(see photo). That took my thirst away pretty quick. The waiter checking on us and comping the first two margaritas earned them a third star, but they should check their glassware before serving.

I wish I could give negative stars. It was not at all crowded when I came. There was one party in front of us. I had a party of two. I told the hostess table for two and she paid no attention. Just cut me off every time I spoke and said I wanted to go to the bar. I immediately turned around and left. No business for a place that is not going to give me the time of day and assume I want to go to the bar because of the way I look and dress.

The food has definitely improved since it became Tres(instead of Tres Agaves), and it’s a great place for a work group lunch. We had a Staff Appreciation luncheon here yesterday(18 people), and the food was excellent! We started off with family style guacamole & chips, albondigas, queso fundido, a fresh baby kale salad, veggies and fruit with Tajin. Then we chose our entrees — I had the carne asada and tried my friend’s carnitas. I have to say, I wish I’d order the carnitas! Those ordering the chicken said it was good. Jugs ‘o’ tequila and finished with a dessert sampler of chocolate cake(divine), churros, a flan, and strawberries with dulce de leche. All were fantastic. Our server(whose name escapes me) worked his butt off(climbing over railings to get to us too!) and kept everyone very happy. Everyone left very happy. Thanks, Tres!

I am currently sitting in tres. I have been here many times and usually leave with a lackluster impression. My waitress tonight was Mya and GODDAMN was she good at what she did. She has like an inverted octagon tattoo if memory serves me right. Calm, patient, attentive, cool, edgy, Jesus Christ I’m out of adjectives. She was great. Enough to make me feel great even after the previous shitty waiters I had. Waiting on people is a hard job and at times, and to be truthful, demeaning. But a good waiter is the definition of an amiable, adaptive, and respectful human. Also… Management is amazing. Always has Been. Just pray on entering that you don’t get one of the pompous waiters. A lot of them exist. Everything I have eaten here is amazing. I mean really really good and worth the high prices. But the churros need some work. There either under cooked or overcooked. I order them every time hoping for greatness and end up confused. I love/hate you tres. I will always come back.

Good place to grab some dinner and drinks before a Giants game. It’s kind of interesting. There’s a back room that seems great for events but kind of weird for standard dining. If you come in without a reservation on a day the Giants are playing you’ll be seated back there. My husband and I both had the enchiladas and they were pretty good. They have a big screen TV to catch any game that’s on. Also they have a bathroom attendant in the ladies room which was pretty awesome! If they keep a clean restroom I feel like they will keep a clean kitchen as well. Speaks highly on the establishment and I like cleanliness when I eat out. I’m kind of a germaphobe.

Can’t speak to the food, but the service was not good. Made a reservation and we ended up leaving the restaurant before being seated because the hostess was rude and inattentive. We waited for our 3rd guest to arrive before being seated because she asked if we were all there even though it didn’t seem that busy. When he did arrive, I went back up to the desk and let her know we were there. We then waited another 5 minutes standing there as the other hostess that was seating people came and went a few times and another group got seated even though they arrived after we did. We decided that if that was going to be the service we got at the front desk, we didn’t want to know what the service inside would be like.

I came here for a work business dinner recently. While I am always skeptical about«foreign» food, in the SOMA/Fidi area I will say this lived up to my thoughts. The food here reminded me of a slightly higher end version of Chevy’s. The chips and salsa was delish, while the entrée itself was just OK. Service was good as they kept the drinks flowing, and we were all able to have good conversations. I do not see myself coming back here in the near future.

Food: Came here for an event and actually ate at the food truck in the back rather than the restaurant. We were really impressed with the flavor of the various tacos. The guacamole and chips were so delicious – fresh! Service: Service was fast and friendly. They answered questions and made recommendations that were spot on! Ambiance: Out back they had music, a whole pig roasting, and entertainers in stilts. We loved the culture that they brought to their event. Inside, the restaurant was lively and colorful. I’d love to come back to dine inside.

It’s a really fun place. The drinks could have been stronger, and the food could have been spicier. It’s not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, but it’s a great spot for a big group dinner/fun dinner with friends.

I came here for lunch with my coworkers yesterday and the experience here was great! The atmosphere is great here and the new menu is simplified to keep things simple. We started off with chips w/salsa and guacamole. The three different salsas added a nice variety to the chips, each with its own unique flavors. The guacamole went very well with the chips with its mishmash of avocado and tomato. The servers were nice enough to come by to refill they chips and salsa when they were running low. I ordered the Pozole Verde, which was a wonderful dish full of flavors and colors. I enjoy all the small sides they put next to the bowl such as the jalapeños, radishes, and herbs. The dish came together quite well and the al pastor was cooked very nicely.

Tequila, mescal, a plenty. Super impressed with the selection of adult beverages at Tres, and the margarita menu is on point. So if you’re a fan of Mexican inspired cocktails and the classics done well, this is a good choice pre Giants baseball game. The food was good, a little«gringo» if you will, but I enjoyed my meal none the less. I had the enchiladas which were pretty good, but nothing mind boggling. Was impressed with the salsas(4) and neverending chips too. Overall: Drinks — 4 stars Food — 3 stars Service — 5 stars Blended like a margarita to a 4 star review.

I came up to SF for work and hosted a group lunch here. Their Sopa Lima soup was excellent. Large portion and really delicious. I’d get that again in a heartbeat. Their service was good although they forgot to serve one of the meals — so I give that a 4-star moment, but their guacamole and chips and the tacos were great. I’d def go back.

So they have great margaritas — BUT we went there based on the happy hour menu online. When we got there at 4:30 there was no happy hour menu. We asked and the waiter was completely dismissive about a happy hour. They only honored the margarita, and acted like we were crazy for asking.

Tres is in a great location, close to both Caltrain and the ballpark. I wandered in here by chance and was impressed with their variety and quality of tequila. The food is very good(but not incredible) and the atmosphere resembles other upscale Mexican restaurants in the city. Good spot for drinks after work in SoMa.

This is a solid drinks and dinner place to come with a larger group of friends. I went for the first time on a Friday night despite living so close by for a while now. it took us ~30 min or so to get a table though we were initially told it would take about an hour. While we were waiting, we ordered a pitcher of margarita to split. I thought the drinks were solid although definitely on the pricier side. I ordered the chicken enchiladas for my main dish which came in a red sauce. The sauce was not too savory but slightly sweet as well which I really enjoyed. I usually don’t enjoy eating enchiladas at restaurants because there’s a wide degree of variability. For my personal preference, I enjoy home-cooked green chili enchiladas that my girlfriend makes. But I have to admit these enchiladas were pretty damn good. I would be back again but again, for around $ 16 bucks for 2 enchiladas — this is definitely on the pricier side of Mexican food. Our total tab for 6 of us was $ 170 so be be prepared to spend a little.

We came here as a group of 8 for a Tuesday lunch. You have to order by filling out a form per table which I liked because it is fast. The problem was that the kitchen wasn’t that fast. We waited a long time for the tacos to arrive(I think they forgot). Also getting the check and paying took a while although they weren’t that busy. I wasn’t sure how big the tacos are but for $ 5 I thought they must be a decent size since a main course is around $ 10. I ordered two but was still hungry since they were pretty small, especially for the price. The tortilla was cold(what surprised me since I could watch them preparing them) and the filling was only ok. The chicken had a lot of liquid so it became all soggy. I liked the atmosphere and the style of the restaurant but service and food was not what I expected.

The food here is good. But my happy hour experience was 1 star. My and my coworkers walked in here after looking up the happy hour menu online. The guacamole here is amazing. The Chicken tacos were awesome yet served on cold corn tortillas. It was not too, too busy yet service always needed to flagged down and at some point I gave up because it made me feel bad to bother the employees. It was weird for a business to retract its own prices last minute. The space was beautiful so I enjoyed my time nonetheless. Don’t really know how I feel about this place. I don’t mind paying full price but I also plan my spending around what a restaurant advertises. The guacamole was really good. The service was sadly mediocre. I will come back again. That is all for now.

If you’re looking for an authentic high end place for Mexican food then this could be the place for you! Centrally located in San Francisco’s South of Market area just two blocks north of the Giants ballpark, you can see for yourself the type of systematic changes the area has been through in the past fifteen years alone let alone of the changes you know are coming. And all the evidence you need is provided by this small and barely noticeable warehouse-style restaurant tucked away in the middle of all of these up and coming startups and pricey condos that serves quality if somewhat overpriced Mexican food prepared with a lot of flavor and heart. I have been to Tres Tequila Lounge and Mexican Kitchen two times now, the first time I came after work and sat with friends at the bar as we dined and drank to our hearts content with the Happy Hour menu of soft tacos, black beans and guacamole and their house made chips. That with a pitcher of margaritas to keep us satisfied until 8pm and we were happy especially since the fact that much of the restaurant went unoccupied on a Thursday evening only added to the festivities. Fast forward a few months later and on another Thursday this time following a «Light the Night» fundraiser event at the nearby AT&T Park, and boy was this place packed, and at 8pm no less! This time I went with a couple of friends who were regulars so much so they’re orders are already very well known by the serving staff. For starters they bring out a basket of freshly made chips with a quartet of dipping sauces, two of which were mild the other two were super spicy, just the way I like it! On top of that we went with the so-called freshly made guacamole, which tasted solid if not amazing, the problem was we ran out of chips and our server never brought out any more.(Guess they were too busy to pay attention to our supply!) For the appetizer, we decided to try the Queso Fundido which was basically a rich chili style mix of chorizo rojo con papas, chile anaheim, and roasted corn served with freshly made tortillas. This was something I have never tried, and boy was I hooked! For the main course, I decided to get the tried and true, otherwise known as the enchiladas de pollo made with rotisserie chicken, gualjijllo chile, chipotle tomato sauce. For 16 dollars, these needed to be knock your socks off amazing. They tasted fresh, authentically prepared and well-seasoned, but no where near knock your socks off. The service was somewhat lacking here as I ordered a side of rice and beans to go with my meal, they didn’t come out until I asked for them(well after I finished my enchiladas no less) and of course, when the bill came I was charged for the full three dollars for them. The black beans tasted bland and lifeless. The fact that I was charged with no apologies only made it more disappointing. All in all it was a solid, if somewhat disappointing second time around at Tres Mexican Kitchen. I don’t doubt their menu is crackling with sizzling and well prepared options, but with the prices on their menu, I need to be wined and dined with a meal to remember. This time it was just blah and for me, that I was truly sad. Then again, when you look around the SoMa China Basin area, there aren’t many other options out there where you’re not ripping your hair out over costs. So I suppose I would return when I’m in the area, with no other options to feast upon. Welcome to the new normal in San Francisco dining.

I’ve been to Tres a few times now and this time was for a Sunday happy hour with a friend. We really wanted to find somewhere outside to sit but we didn’t have much luck. We decided to go to Tres because she is new to the city and I told her how good it was. We each ordered the White Sangria which I had never had before. It was really refreshing and delicious too. For food, we ordered chips and guac to split(waiter asked if we wanted salsa too which of course we said yes, but didn’t realize we were being charged for the salsa as a separate app as well… not a huge deal), and brussels sprouts. The guac at Tres is so so good — made in house we were told plus there’s sooo much of it! the brussels sprouts were really tasty too! perfect to split. We each also ordered one taco each. I ordered the skirt steak taco($ 5) — amazing! My friend ordered the Fish taco which was also very very good. This was the perfect amount of food for happy hour. This place is great for happy hour, dinner, drinks or whatever! great margs too.

I came here for a work event one evening and was immediately impressed by the décor and the lively reggaeton music as soon as I arrived. I’ve seen the pictures posted on Unilocal and thought the food looked great, so I was excited to try some of the dishes. Unfortunately, after the meal, I concluded that the best part of the food was the presentation, and I wasn’t impressed by the flavor nor the quality of the food. The ceviche was small, and barely had any seafood in it. Rotisserie chicken was fine, but nothing special about it. Finally, I honestly can’t remember what I had for dessert because it was plain and I only had one bite before deciding it wasn’t worth the calories. I did like the atmosphere so I’ll probably come back in the future for drinks, after eating dinner somewhere else.

Average American Mexican fare. Can’t compare it to the joints in the Mission, of course, but the food is fresh and pretty tasty. I had the al pastor tacos. They were $ 14 for 3 decent sized tacos that filled me up. The restaurant is big and spacious inside. We had a big group and we all fit in the high chair table in front of the bar. We had to pull up a chair or two, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. If they have nice happy hour specials, definitely a good place to come after work. We were there on a Sunday evening, it was kind of quiet. I probably wouldn’t go back unless it was someone else’s choice.

We were in the area for the Giants game and we Unilocaled this ace because we wanted Mexican. We warmly greeted and seated right away. This place is big. They really pack in the tables in there. You are almost sitting right on top of the people next to you. I’m not a fan of that. I prefer not to hear all of the discussions going on around me. But then again, the music is incredibly loud… so, maybe they hoped the music would help out drown out your neighbors conversations. Smh. Anyways, our server was attentive and very personable. I ordered a gin and a tonic and it came back as a gin and tonic water that tastes like water. Yuck! I like my gin and tonics with the tonic that tastes more like soda… anyways, was not a problem switching that out for a margarita which was delicious! I ordered the chicken tacos. Basically chicken with a sauce on tortillas. Not a whole lot of flavor nor presentation. Was just so so. Hubby ordered the carnitas and he said his food was kind of bland too. The chips and salsa were ok too… chips could use some salt and we had no salt on the table. Lol. Salsas were also ok. So yeah, this place was ok and therefor got an ok rating.

Great for large groups Pitcher of margaritas have an odd residual flavor that I didn’t care for Only 1 out of 3 salsas were worth wild to eat, the green one was especially off Carne Asada Torta needed more flavoring especially salt Overall Thoughts I would say come here if you love tequila but skip the food

Service: good. Always checked back. But their recommendations was eh. Like the bean dip. Food: TACOs are great really enjoyed the homemade styled tortillas, but the so call famous bean dip sucked. It was flavorless and the pickled vegetable on top didn’t even have a punch, causing it be a a bowl of boring black bean. Drinks: the sangria was tasty but they only had white and the bartender didn’t even tell me. Then, it’s just a pitcher full of ice. Didn’t even get two glass realistically out of it. Happy hour is not making me happy. Some stuff was the same price as the full menu. $ 4-$ 4.5 for a small street taco is even pricey for a full price menu, so u don’t consider it a happy hour price.

Still a big fan of the moist and tasty carnitas here at Tres but a recent lunchtime visit also pleasantly surprised me with some of their lighter fare. The guacamole and the roasted Brussels sprouts are nice botanas to start off with. I particularly enjoyed the latter with the lightly roasted Brussels sprouts that kept a firmer texture in tandem with the nutty pine nuts. For my main course, I had ceviche ensalada and absolutely loved the fresh and bright flavors of this well composed salad. Ahi tuna tossed with grilled pineapple, avocado, tomatoes, and sesame seeds, over a bed of slightly bitter greens and brought together with a sprightly citrus dressing. It’s a light meal yet tasty and satisfying. Probably will default again to the porky goodness of carnitas in the evening but it’s good to know that there is lighter fare for lunch at Tres that still leaves you pretty satisfied but functional when you’re back in the office.

I have been here a couple times and each time I am glad. 1. The first time I came here to a private event held in the back with open bar and food. Naturally– it was an amazing party and I had a great time. 2. I came here on a double date with friends before a Giants game. It was a good idea since we would have spent the same amount on food at the game. There were some things that I was disappointed in. 1. I wanted a simple burrito or nacho plate– but they didn’t have it because they are a «fancier» Mexican restaurant. 2. It was pricey for a Mexican restaurant– so that disappointed me too. Tip: If you are going to a Giants game afterwards– don’t get too much food since if you don’t finish it– you aren’t going to want to take it to the game with you.

We ordered a $ 36 pitcher for two of us, thinking most hard-alcohol pitchers are about 4 drinks’ worth of mixed drink– two each seemed about right, and at $ 9.50 for a single one, the pitcher was ever so slightly cheaper and didn’t require us to re-order when things looked busy at the bar. Except this pitcher was more accurately a liter-sized stein that served 3 drinks plus a top-off… making the pitcher actually _more_expensive than individual drinks. As for drink quality: It was a bit sweet for me, and heavy on the… mango juice? I thought I ordered a basic margarita, but this didn’t match what I thought it would be. Maybe I misread the menu? Speaking of which, the drink menu was also written for a tequila expert– simply naming the tequila in the 9 or 10 different margaritas didn’t help describe them to this plebe, and the waiter was friendly and attentive, but she was really too busy to elaborate beyond«top shelf is on the bottom.» I like the idea of this place as a specialty tequila bar, and I’m sure for an expert it’s a casual place to sip a fine reposado– I’m probably just not the target audience to appreciate that. I didn’t try the food, but it looked worth revisiting if I’m in the area.

I’ve actually never eaten here. I refuse to go sit down mexican food. I want a burrito from those shady little mexican places! I go here for the bar, duh. They’ve got a great selection of tequilas, however it gets a bit pricy even for the lower quality tequila. I also went here for cinco de mayo… one word… well actually i dont remember… i guess it was good. They had an outside tent, tequila and beer specials. Def a good spot for 5⁄5. The waitstaff rocks, especically«Lindsey». Try to get her section if you can!

Came by for lunch the other day and the restaurant was quite crowded… possibly due to the game at AT&T stadium… There were no tables available, but there were open seats available at the bar. Started off with the Carne Asada Tacos which were okay. Meat was slightly over-cooked… The chips and guacamole were also mediocre… Service was okay by the staff…
