Dr Maurer is warm, sharp in perceptions of the whole patient(she looked into my eyes as well as at my presented symptoms), and clear in explaining her diagnosis. I felt that I, and not just my symptoms, were being seen. She is a traditional physician in the best sense — I never got the sense that she was ruled by the clock, as is all too often the case in our quick fix culture. She took her time, kept me engaged, and best of all, treated me with the greatest of respect. Her confidence in her own perceptions and training is infectious, so I left her office feeling confident that I am under her care, not another number to be checked off on the«patient outcomes» conveyor-belt-approach to contemporary patient care. I trust her and recommend Dr Maurer without reservation. It is such a pity that we live in a world in which professional evaluation is ruled by the whims of «customers». Yet I write this review anyway because the virtual world needs substantive reviews more than acts of literary and narcissistic revenge.

I did not have a problem making an appt with Dr. Toby Maurer, one of the top dermatologists in the clinic in the normal expected amount of time — just over a week ahead of time. But I was waiting for more than 40 minutes for my name to be called, and waited another 15-ish in the exam room. She was attentive and gave me the amount of time, if not a bit more, than any other physician does(15 –18 min-ish) and prescribed some medications, and gave me some advice to help improve my skin. One of the creams that she prescribed worked, the other didn’t. In general, I think it’s super hard to find a good dermatologist — I’ve tried 5 different ones over the past 9 years and they are all marginally helpful.

I guess you’re lucky if you can get in at all. They don’t have any openings for the rest of the year. This was my last resort because anyone else I even considered had even worse reviews than this one. If I want to see a dermatologist quickly, I would have to pay out of pocket instead of being able to have insurance cover it.

This place DOESN’T DESERVE any starts at all… not even ½ a star or a ¼, more like a negative star if there’s such a thing. That’s how much I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this entire dermatology clinic! For the past 5 – 6 years, I’ve been trying to see if this place has changed at all and every time I decide to give them another try and make an appointment… FAIL!!! Appointments for new and even existing patients are 1 – 2 months wait, and the hold time on a call to finally get to speak to a front office staff, is long as well! What’s up with this place. The reason I wanted to get into this office cuz of the proximity to where we live. I guess that’s not going to work and would have to go to another office. Seriously… and this is a UCSF facility? I agree with Unilocal reviewer Sam F. «Stay away…» ***This review is for this office in particular only***
