Sucks that I had never noticed this hot dog place since it’s not right where the main Irving street places are, but I’m glad my friend/food buddy brought me here! Their hot dogs are yummy, and they have a huge selection so it can be a bit overwhelming. The staff are very friendly though, and it seemed like they were pretty used to suggesting hot dogs to first timers. I got this one with some mango and spice(too many names to remember) and it had the perfect kick. I’m a self-proclaimed potato fanatic, so I was really more excited to try their tater tots. C’mon. TATERTOTS. That was already enough to convince me to come. I’m the«you can never have too much of anything on food» type of eater, so I went straight for the chili cheese tater tots. They didn’t hold back on the chili and cheese. If I could give them a sixth star for that I would. It was magical. Potatoes and anything is magical. If I hadn’t already eaten before coming over I would have gotten another order. Will stop by again when I’m in the Irving area. Be ready taters, I’m coming.

I try to stay away from hotdogs because I know I shouldn’t be eating it that often but when I do cave into my cravings, Underdogs satisfies my tummy. Their tatertots are so good and I always get them even when I tell myself no more fried food. I like how all of the things here are organic which makes me feel like I’m eating healthier :) hehe.

Monday January 18th. Got there around 6:10.left around 7:15. When I ordered, there were 2 people eating, 1 finishing up, and 1 waiting on order. Not sure if that is considered busy for a hour wait time for one hot dog. You all were out of tater tots and potato salad and YOUR«prided» representative was clearly frustrated and stated several times how he was left there alone. After I placed my order 2 other customers ordered and 1 customer came to pick up order. Not so sure your comment to my review addresses the problem but more so excuses the issue of a ridiculous wait time and the wrong order. But I’ll digress as I won’t be returning or recommending Extremely disappointed!

Absolutely delicious. Amazing service, such friendly people who make the experience lovely and help explain the overwhelming menu. Vegetarian & vegan options are tasty as are the regular dogs! Yum! Will be back

Vegetarians, vegans, carnivores alike, come one come all to this hot dog joint. A bit on the pricier side(when compared to a Costco hot dog) but well worth the money. Why? I was vegan for a month, for shits and giggles. Naturally, I was drawn here. Naturally, I expected to be jealous of my peers who ordered the meat options. Turns out, the soy based weiners here are the real deal. I like meat as red as they come, and the vegan dogs here definitely cut it. I’m also a licensed sauce boss, and if you are too, then this is the spot for you. Wide array of high quality toppings for your dog if you want to get fancy.

There’s no need to fear… Underdog is CLOSED. Underdog is fine, ok dogs for an on-the-go snack, pricy only if you add toppings, stick with a simple dog and the prices are fine. There’re badly worded signs, for example the one suggesting that you get 2 dogs for a bit more money, sounds great until you order it and it’s a double dog in one bun, not two dogs. But the kicker is this: the last FOURTIMES I’ve tried to eat here it’s been closed. Once was within 2 hours of closing on a weeknight, so I figured they had to leave early, no big deal, I vowed to try earlier in the day. Yeah, three more times and every time it was closed. This is over 6+ months so it’s not as if they were on vacation for one week. I just tried again a couple of days ago at around 3pm, and the guy puts up the CLOSED sign *right as I’m walking up to the door*! I figured OK, the guy has got to take a massive pooper, so I waited for 20 minutes and he never came back, nor did he leave. That’s a big pooper all right! Well fool me once shame on you, fool me three more times… won’t get fooled again. The dogs are fine, but what am I supposed to do, call every time before I head out to make sure they’re open?! I would actually like to eat there, I just cannot.

Best hot dogs and sausages in SF!!! This place is only 8ft wide and really easy to walk by. I was drawn in by the 1 $ beer special but blown away by the amazing homemade sausages! I had the jamaican jerk chicken and the steph curry lamb with sunset topping and both were as legit as the undefeated NBA champs! I’ll be back to this little sausage box in the sunset!

Underdog is awesome. I’m so happy I found a hot dog spot in my neighborhood. What’s even better – they have vegan dogs, everything is organic, and deliver! This is the sort of business that makes me miss my small hometown. I’ve only been here a handful of times but Nick(one of the owners) always remembers me and has gone out of his way to make sure the food I got fit my dietary restrictions. The Underdog Sauce(vegan) and smoked chipotle dog(vegan) are addictive :) Little spot with a ton of love and personality. Also, $ 2PBR’s! Thanks for making this a new regular spot for me!

I’ve been eating Asian family styled meals all week. Needed a small break. While everyone ate at King Noodle across the street, I decided to pick something up here. Lots of different dog options(meat and non-meat), along with condiments and bread options. I had the bratwurst w/wheat bun, topped w/ketchup, mustard, relish, and jalapeño relish. Bratwurst was tasty, served in a perfect wheat bun! I would come back to try other dogs.

That was so bad. A piping hot dog with a tough casing, and toppings spilling over all messily on top. Not a hot dog expert, but can imagine a better set up is cheese and toppings nicely on a toasted bun, with the dog on top, sliced to allow steam to escape and easier eating. Not ideal. Tator tots cold and soggy. BAD!

Great place to eat, the chef made a recommendation on what I should try as this was the first time there, had a pineapple bacon dog with cheese and tomato on top it was perfect. Thanks for the recommendation!!!

If I need a quick simple hot dog grub, id probably come here again. I dig the concept. I got the Italian sausage with the pre-picked topping selection«Sunset». Although the great mess of ingredients and sauce were pretty bomb, it was hard to eat and hold, and this is coming from someone who loves eating messy. The dog itself was also hard to bite into pieces. Great décor too!

I love me a good weiner. When in Rome… kidding aside we visited this haute dog joint in the Sunset and it was legit. I had the cali all beef dog with saurkraut, sweet onion, and underdog sauce. Sauce was awesome, and the bun came out nice and toasty as well. Dog was snappy and tasty. A little on the pricey side but hey, im in SF where i once paid $ 9 for a grilled cheese. At least i gots my moneys worth. Owned by a nice gent, who apparently is married to a pinay, hence the pinoy adobo dog. Yep, find this place and eat here. Too bad you cant put this on a cart and roll it to Sutro Bath. Youd make a killing!

Hoping for some great hot dogs/sausages at this small restaurant. Unfortunately didn’t find it. If you ever had the luck to eat at Hot Doug’s(in Chicago) before it closed(RIP), you know the quality I’m looking for. It was sunny day in the sunset, and Underdog was calling my name. It’s narrow small-scale type operation with a lot of promise. We had the California Dog, Garlic Pork, and Ranch Chicken/shitake sausage(on special). No additional toppings(which cost extra). We want to test the quality of the meat. 1) California dog — nice crisp and snap. Tastes like a classic beef hot dog, which was exactly what you want in hot dog. I put it on a white-bread bun and it complemented it well. You can add relish/onions/ketchup/mustard if you want. And I did. This is a staple, and Underdog does this well. 2) Garlic Pork — I wanted to like this more, but unfortunately it was bit dry. It didn’t pack the garlic I was looking for. 3) Ranch Chicken/shitake sausage — We couldn’t finish this(two of us). Not because we weren’t hungry, but because this lacked any moisture. Had to pile on some toppings to make this more edible. Unfortunately, it was akin to dry ground chicken in sausage-form. Won’t be coming back here. Quality just isn’t there. I am happy that a basic hot dog can be done well though. If you’re looking to pile on non-traditional toppings, you could check this place out. If you’re looking for well-executed, high caliber meat in tube, keep looking.

Meh, don’t really get the hype. Excellent quality dogs, but at over $ 20 for two dogs and a rootbeer, not the value I was hoping for. Bummed they were out of tater tots. So was every other patron that came in after us and seemed to want them as well. This place has a great SF vibe, and may be fun for out-of-towners to experience. Lots of great posters and old SF memorabilia. Cramped inside though, only seating is a counter facing the wall. Small seating area outside, but it’s the Sunset, so the weather was cold and windy in July…

Tiny little hot dog/sausage shop in Sunset that serves organic dogs. There are a couple seats inside and outside but it’s more of a takeout place. I got the spicy italian sausage($ 5 for just the dog) with grilled onions which was pretty good. Toppings are pricey at $ 1.25 each so your dog can end up being $ 10 if you put a lot of toppings on it. I also got the cheese tots which had a huge thick layer of cheese that just solidified into one giant chunk over my tots. I ended up just picking the tots out of the layer of cheese. Not a fun experience. Overall, the food was ok but it tasted like something I could’ve just grilled up myself for a lot cheaper. Tots tasted like the frozen Ore-ida ones. I’ll probably just head to the grocery store and skip Underdog next time.

Love this place. what is there not to love? Organic dogs which comes in beef, chicken, pork, or vegan. even their condiments are organic. they did a little remodeling and now had bar stools versus the tables. cool music always playing. friendly people. I always get the all beef California dog. the right amount of salt and when you bite into the dog, you see juice oozing from meat. so good! they toast their buns. Comes in white or wheat.

My friend and I were discussing how we’d rate Underdog, and I came up with«for what they do, I’d give them 4 or 5, but in the scheme of all restaurants, I’d give them 3.» I think what they do they do well, but it’s not necessarily a place I’d take someone I was trying to impress(unless they are a hotdog lover, in which case this is THEPLACE to go). The huge variety of sausage and hotdog choices is very impressive, but honestly my favorite part of the meal would probably go to the killer cheese tater tots. They were super good. I got the lemon chicken sausage with coleslaw on top, and it was pretty good! I’d definitely recommend splurging and adding at least one of the extra-cost add ons, I think it would have been too dry for me without the coleslaw. A fun place with cool mural painted on the side! Great for a quick weekend stop before going to the park or otherwise on your way.

This place was pretty good as far as hot dogs go. It was filling, fun, and fast(though we weren’t pressed for time) I had the hot italian and cheesy po-taters. Would def get the sausage again, the po-taters were good because i was hungry, nothing special though so go for a crazier flavors. PROS: fun, great ambiance, good food, decent price, filling CONS: boring cheesy po-taters
