CLOSED, no longer a WU Dog location. It’s now called Lucky Dogs. Funny thing is that in SF there’s a pet grooming chain by the same name. Some confusion is bound to happen.

I came here one night when I began to crave hotdogs! I worked at Pizza Orgasmica, which is right around the corner, and some of the guys I worked with often got food from here. I just got a plain frank. It’s been awhile so I’m not sure of the name. It was ok. Nothing special. The people working in the back were extremely nice and began a conversation with me because of my Southern accent. I was alone so I stayed and chatted a bit before leaving to walk alone, eating a hotdog on the street, like a loser. :(

I think they’re under a different management. It’s called Lucky Dog now. Walked in, the one guy working there was very outgoing and friendly. Ordered the four cheese on a veggie hotdog. It was pretty good and cheap! Most items were under five bucks. Good enough for police to park on the red line in front of this store to get some for themselves too.

We’re not comparing this place to Gary Danko’s or anything like that. But it’s nice to be able to grab a cheap dog in the Marina! I made my way to What’s Up because Let’s Be Frank doesn’t serve french fries. Hello(!). All you serve is hot dogs and your only side dish is potato chips? I got the organic(grass-fed, supposedly) regular dog, which was $ 1 extra, and fries. Tasted good. Guys working here were mad friendly.

After taking couple of shots at Matrix, I asked my friend a question. Hey you wanna gets some«up dog?» He looked at me weird and said what. Up dog… Up dog you big dummy… What the hell is up dog? Nothing much, whats up with you? Love that joke now to the food. After leaving the club we looked across the street and we thought hell yeah lets get some pizza. Crossed the street and looked at the line and said oh hell naw. We didn’t know if we should stay in line or try to find something else. With my great debating skills and caveman instincts I said, «MEEHUNGRRRYNOOOW!» Believe it or not thats all I had to say. Well anyways, we went up the block and we seen this place. No line and a hot dog place, perfect. At first we were looking for a bacon hot dog cart, but I guess this neighborhood is too good for that kind of thing. This place is a good substitute though. I had the regular hot dog, it was cool, okay, maybe mediocre, nothing great. Oh I know the word average. The best part about this place are the sides. I ordered the bacon cheese fries, I killed it it 5 mins. I wasn’t satisfied so I ordered the chili cheese fries. I know, I know either I was hella drunk or fat. I think was just being hella fat. Taste and flavor 3 stars, not waiting in that stupid pizza line down the block 4 stars.

I LOVE hotdogs. My fiancé and I stopped by here the other day for a hot dog snack. I had the regular hot dog with sauerkraut and deli mustard. He had the Southern dog(meat and bean chili with slaw). My dog was absolutely delicious. My fiancé really liked his too. I think this place is much better than Let’s Be Frank. They also have a ton of sausages and organic dogs if you prefer for a $ 1 more. There are a bunch of interesting hotdog topping combos to try. However, unless I’m in Chicago, I always stick with a plain kraut and mustard.

Chili cheese fries are CHRONIC. This is a must order. Everything is fresh and made to order. Never knew hot dogs were part of a healthy diet. What? They’re not? Well, you already knew that. The dogs are great — just read the other reviews. Nuff said. Great selection, clean, and a small outdoor seating area so you don’t get relish on your shirt.

I came here quickly to grab a quick bite before meeting up with my friends to go to the clubs a few blocks away. This place isn’t that bad. I am only critiquing on the Chicago Dog because I haven’t had enough food here to make an overall decision. The Chicago dog was very good. I’ve never had an actual dog from Chicago so I can’t make a comparison… but it’s a great quick pick up food on the go. I also had the fries, but I thought they were too salty. Great spot that’s open late. Affordable price to get something quick to eat. I’ll probably come here again if I’m ever around the neighborhood.

I wish hot dogs were healthy, I would eat one everyday for breakfast, no joke. Unfortunately, they are not and for the sake of my long term health, I have to limit my consumption on this marvel of a food. I will make one exception though, every time I make my way to San Francisco, I always try and make a stop at one of my two favorite hot dog joints, Top Dog and What’s Up Dog. I actually prefer Top Dog, but because all of their locations are in Berkeley and I usually stay in the city, logistically it’s difficult to get to. I hear that both of these places use the same dog distributor, so the offerings are very similar. The dogs that are offered in a quarter pound of joy are: POLISH(Kielbasa) — 2⁄3 Pork and 1⁄3 Beef LOUISIANAHOTLINK — ½ Pork and ½ Beef w/4 kinds of spices(a lotta heat) BRATWURST — Pork, Veal and Garlic PORTUGUESE — Pork, Beef, Garlic and White Wine CALABRESE(Italian) — Pork, Paprika, Chili and Fennel(a little heat) SMOKEDCHICKENAPPLE — Chicken w/Chunks of Apples(Low Salt) LEMONCHICKEN — Chicken, Fresh Lemon and Garlic(Low Salt, Low Fat, No Preservatives) CHICKENLINGUICA — Fresh Garlic, White Wine and Paprika SANTAFETURKEY — Turkey Red/Green Peppers and Cilantro VEGGIEDOG — Tofurky Soy Based Meatless Sausage My favorites are the kielbasa, hot link, calabrese, and the lemon chicken, but I’ve tried all of them and they are all very tasty. When you are in the city, look for the store signs and prepare yourself for an adventure. On this trip, I went with a kielbasa and a hot link. I went with a couple of friends and they picked up a portuguese dog and a stoner dog. We also all split a nacho cheese, bacon and chili cheese fries between us. All the dogs come in a bun nicely wrapped in paper. I only like my hot dogs one way, ketchup, mustard and relish. No sauerkraut, no onions and absolutely NO mayo(just check out the picture on top, that’s my kielbasa). The keilbasa was fantastic as expected as was the hot link, which was spicy to say the least. Now what was very interesting was the stoner dog and the heart attack order of fries that we got. The stoner dog was basically a chili dog topped with fritos. The presentation of the dog is fantastic and it just screams eat me, however, actually eating it is something else. Every time you take a bite, the fritos would fall off the top and you had to scoop them on, which was kind of a pain. The fries actually became our own creation after we ordered the nacho cheese and bacon fries, which honestly, were not that good. But after topping it with the chili, BAM, pure heart attack ecstasy! From the first bite till the end… it was very tasty. If you’re looking for a quality dog in the city of San Francisco, What’s Up Dog is highly recommended. Although not as cheap as a street cart vendor, you’re guaranteed a much higher quality of food. HAPPYDOGGIN!

Was in such a mood for a hot dog with chili cheese fries after having a fat hang over and decided to Unilocal… so i checked this place out. At first i went to the one in the Potrero, but they were closed. so i drove my starving craving ass to the marina in the stormy rain. SCORE!!! and well worth the drive across town. I got the veggie(keilbasa) dog chicago style minus the relish and hot peppers. LOVEDIT!!! the dog wasn’t greasy and the amt of condiments added to the dog wasn’t overwhelming. I really digged the chili cheese fries. I couldn’t stop eating them. but i had to stop cuz all in moderation! LOL… This place has a ton of choices of dogs to lousiana hot links, veggie, kielbasa, portuguese sausage… and plenty of styles~chicago, new york… I am definitely coming back

The first time I tried to eat here, there was a sign that said«Back at 8PM». It was 8:53PM. =( Came back on a Tuesday in the afternoon, and they were open! Yay! I’ve been dying to try this place solely for one thing: bacon cheese fries. That’s right. You’d think every single fast food joint would have this amazing concoction, but no. I got the BLT dog, but instead of a hot dog I got a hot link. Add some jalapenos and bacon cheese fries inside that bun and… OMG heaven!!!, even though I felt like I was having a heart attack shortly after. The people there were friendly as well; we’re coming back every Tuesday.

I dont just like What’s Up Dog because it’s insured by Sandy Lee State Farm, but bc I like lemon chicken and garlic frys. =) The new owners are really nice and friendly. It’s also nice that they are opened after a long night of drinking. haha

Came here for lunch last week and tried a chili cheese dog. I definitely enjoyed my dog! The chili was tasty and the dog was pretty good. Prices here are pretty cheap and each dog is a perfect size. There were a few guys working in here but they definitely got my food out quick. Small outdoor seating area outside also. Wouldn’t mind returning in the future!

This place is right down the street from my salon, and I have to admit it is a guilty pleasure of mine on those days when I forget to pack a lunch. They have vegan and vegetarian options-shredded cheddar cheese on top of a tofurkey dog is quite delectable. I think the taste lies in the toasted rolls the dogs are served in. Cheap, quick, and filling, with vegetarian options to boot. Word.

MMMMMMM. I’ve realized, you don’t really get dogs like this with all the fixings many places in SF. The closest comparison anyone I know can come up with is Pinks in LA. You can get a dog plain or wrapped in bacon, coated in cheese, dressed with veggies or drenched in sauce. Order it however you like or order whichever on the menu tickles your fancy. I picked something that made me both salivate and cringe — the BLT dog. I vowed never to eat a bacon wrapped dog again unless I’m drunk and it’s from a cart, but What’s Up Dog does the BLT dog in a tasteful and tasty manner, and I’m not ashamed to say I had it for lunch, sober. If you’re not into all the toppings you can order one of the many varieties of links they have. Their garlic fries are BOMB. They’re downright addictive. I was burping garlic for the remainder of the day. The crew here is super nice, too. Open til 2:30am on the weekend. Helloooooooooo drunchies.

Almost every restaurant in the city after 2 am tonight, which is after the Chinese New Year parade was packed. All of the Chinatown restaurants, Mel’s drive in, osha thai,…so we ended up here at What’s up Dog. A great alternative for those nights that you want something different. They close at 2:30 am and this place was crowded but we knew it was going to be quick. The crowd were mostly enumerated consumers that needed to soak up the alcohol. Felt sorry for Danny, the guy working the cashier. I can only imagine how rowdy it can get here and you know how that can be. Overall…the buns were toasted to perfection and the dogs were great. We also ordered a side of fries. An extra star for opening late. They have a few tables outside of this establishment and a few seats inside. It works for me!!!

What’s Up Dog? I’m sure that is NOT an original joke! I LOVE the Buns & I LOVE the Lemon Chicken Hot Dog, it’s DELICIOUS!!! The people that work there are super friendly and cool and it’s a block from my house. Sometimes it’s hard to walk by at 2:30am and not stop at What’s Up Dog.

Can you say… Heart Attack on a bun, who cares you only live once. I walked in here and ordered a chili cheese tofukey dog with extra bacon. And added a side of side is bacon cheese fries to get the full artery clogging experience. It was he best dog I’ve eaten next to Pinks in Hollywood. This is a great nightspot for a quick late night«snack» ;) A definite repeat.

It was my buddies birthday, and we wanted to show him a good time. We decided to walked around the marina district and do a good old fashion bar crawl. What is better then a fun filled evening filled with drinking, walking about with a camera that helps us document the evening and also help us piece the event back together on what we did the following day… From what I recall, we this was so good old fashioned cheap eats, and the fact that I was really buzzed made it taste even better… The place was small, enough room to order and maybe stand around, but if it got busy you probably wanted to get outside and eat. The hot dog I had some coleslaw, onions and chili on it, judging from the picture I took that night. That sounds like a horrible combination, but I remember loving it!!! I can’t remember who ordered the chili fries but I remember them tasting pretty good too. I know this place doesn’t compare to the hot dog places on the east coast but I still remember enjoying this place. I probably will need to try eating here sober, sometimes alcohol screws with my taste buds and I’ve eaten and enjoyed some pretty crappy things… Not much in terms of out door seating unless you count the sidewalk or curb… the same can be said about parking too, but again we were on a pub crawl so that doesn’t really matter… And the name, who could hate the name?! I am pretty sure the staff here may have gotten sick of having to listen to all the jokes all these drunk people may have made while consuming their hot dogs…

I occassionally frequented this spot when it was WIlbur’s and La Canasta when it was next door. The business fits the tiny location well. I decided to go with my standbys(Hot link and Polish) dogs. I favored the Hot links’ taste but neither was great. Will try more of their other offerings later and a dog place is a nice addition to the area. check ‘em out.
