Yank Sing opened near here in 1958, becoming the 3rd dim sum eatery in chitown. it soon became popular. Cecilia Chang. was one amongst many patrons… Alice and George Chan operated Yank Sing with help from son, Henry. they moved 4 years later a block and an half further down on broadway. i always remembered the distinctive bottle of chili sauce/oil in the window. way too hot for me… this location closed in 1982. Henry Chan came back to continue the family dim sum biz when his mother passed away. he made changes to the recipes and moved his dim sum mainstream, first to stevenson st, then battery st. finally ending up at rincon center and also on spear street. Yank Sing’s dimsum is unlike any other’s. all natural meats and ingredients are used. no msg or other additives. sure it’s pricier than the average fare in chitown. i would say it’s worth the extra $$. why pay cheap and eat msg-filled dim sum? not healthy at all.
