Law Office of Stephanie Chen

I hired Stephanie Chen as my divorce attorney and was charged for $ 9000 on relatively simple case.
Ex and I had no children, no hidden assets and we had W2 income only. I negotiated the whole case and Stephanie was only consulting legal matters. Both parties were not at fault, and it is just an amicable divorce.
Her office has two major problems. Billing is definitely one of them. I was once sent a bill twice and I told her staff I have paid. Her staff immediately confronted, ’ you did not pay’. I have to go back to my credit card history to prove I’ve paid.
At one stage, Stephanie agreed she would not bill me any more since it is at the end of the case and the bill was already high. She later on ate her words and charged me another a few grands for really small left over items.
The 2^nd problem is respect. My divorce case had some overlapping with my mom’s funeral. She urged me harshly to pay ex’s settlement fund while I was at my mom’s funeral. I was in deep sorrow. I told her my mom’s situation and she did not even say a word to comfort me.
With all said, I think Stephanie is knowledgeable, but not very helpful and respectful.

I made appointment for consultation, but still waited for more than half hour. There was no one there waiting except for me. After 30 mins went by, I ask when the lawyer can meet with me, and the lady at the front desk finally told me the lawyer actually is not at the office yet because she was at the court, and she was on the way back to the office! So I have to wait another 15 mins til she comes back. They could just call me before and reschedule the appointment… On top of that, no one apology being late. Finally meeting with the lawyer, she seems like having a hard time reading the document I have, doesn’t seems like she has much experience at all. I have to tell her what the document said… She is not helpful at all. At the end, she even questioning my statement! Really bad service! Wasting my time and money!
I went to another law office the day after, and they were really professional, not like Stephanie Chen. So I decided to use another lawyer’s service.
