Beyond thrilled about the work that was done! Elated that the pool is back up and running. Crossing my fingers this will hold us up for a while. The patch was done in a clean, fast and professional manner. The crew left my yard with a minimal mess but nothing to cry about.
Shortly after my initial review, I did receive a phone call from the owner, Dave, reassuring that he wasn’t trying to cheat me out of business, so I felt confident enough to trust in him and his work. His staff was a pleasure to work with.

Allen’s Pool did a complete remodel and convinced us to use fiberglass. Now the fiberglass is delaminating in multiple places, and they are NOT honoring their warranty! They are not ethical nor reliable.

Allen’s pools came highly recommended– I had heard good things, and even had work done by them before with no issues.
However, this time was beyond difficult. We needed a somewhat unique repair done, so I understand some complication, but nowhere near what played out. Essentially, the project needed to be done by April 18^th; as a small member based pool, we had published opening dates. They, including Mr. Allen himself, told me the project should be fine to get done by then, since I called in February. April 30^th, 2015, and still not done.
Here were the issues:
–I was forced to call them for every step of the process. When I had a question, I always received a promise for a call back with an answer… nobody could ever answer my question directly. Two times of the fifteen times (literally) did I actually receive a call back. Yet when I called them to check in, after several days, they had already spoken to the appropriate person about it and just didn’t bother to call me.
— They told me they had to special order a part and would call when it came in, in up to 14 days. This took a month, and sounded like they didn’t order it until I had called to ask why it was taking so long. And once it finally did come in, nobody let me know until I called again.
— I was told once the part was in, they could be out «next week». That came and went, and turned into the following week. The pool had to be drained enough for them to do the repair, so of course this was a huge chore to do twice (had to be refilled for the weekend since we were now open). I spent 5 hours getting the pool to the level I thought was adequate; I asked what was needed for prep and of course they had to call me back about that (and never did).
–Finally, they were coming out– and a phone call first thing in the morning; great! Except that call was to tell me they wouldn’t be out that day after all. I had asked the day before what time they would be out, and if it would be Thursday, and they said yes to Thursday, but wouldn’t commit to any time– just told me to call them at 9 am the next day for that info (because I sit around all day waiting for pool people, so the time they come doesn’t matter until then).
–I requested a phone call from Mr. Allen immediately, to ensure he knew that by not showing up that day, there might not be enough time to let any cement needed set before opening on Saturday (and 6 hours to fill the pool again and balance chemicals). He let out a string of excuses (people were sick, there’s only one guy for that type of job, too many other projects, etc.) so the best he could do was possibly get out as early as 6 AM on Friday, leaving just barely the time for cement to dry. He said he would call me in the morning to confirm the time. I woke up at 5:30 to make sure I didn’t miss it, and he casually called at 10 AM to say they were at the pool waiting to be let in– not at all a confirmation call, and nowhere close to early enough to get the job done.
I finally gave up and told him not to do the work. Two months and many phone calls, I got what would only have been a rushed job that didn’t have enough time to set properly.
I will concede, it’s the busy season for pool work. Mr. Allen did come out to survey as he said he would, and Lucia did get him to call me once even though she protested that he wasn’t in and couldn’t. I understand it was a unique project, and he even cut us a deal on the labor– all great.
That does not justify it taking two months, the broken promises of phone calls, and missed deadlines.

Allen’s Pool out of San Jose was hired on May 3, 2013 to refurbish our pool with a projected completion date of May 24^th, 2013. At the completion of the new plaster and fiberglass installation there were a number of significant leaks, the fiberglass was very rough, uneven, showing exposed plaster where there was no fiberglass, and the new sheer descents fountains were poorly engineered and would not operate at the same time. Ron Allen apologized for the poor installation and stated that he would fix the descent installation at his costs. We were hosting a wedding reception in in our back yard and early June and we were extremely frustrated that the job needed to start over again. The pool was drained a second time on the 24−26^th of June, 2013. The new fiberglass was removed along with the plaster and a second round of plaster and fiberglass was installed. Once the pool was refilled there were numerous leaks. The electrical breaker kept tripping when the sheer descents were turned on. For the next 6 weeks Allen’s Pool returned a number of times during which the pool was drained a third time, to fix these leaks. Allen’s Pool was unsuccessful to repair these leaks. On August 14, 2013 following 3 plus months of incompetent workmanship, Allen’s Pool was fired. In June of 2014 we discovered numerous patches of the topcoat peeling way from the pool. This reinforced our position that Allen’s Pool was not skilled to refurbish our pool. We hired American Leak detectors in the fall of 2013 to assess the ongoing leaks and hired another contractor to fix these leaks.
My recommendations is to select another contractor.

We hired them to refinish our our. The whole thing was stressful. They did not come out the day they said they will. They sure have way too many lame excuses for everything. The whole project was much longer than expected. At the end they said that they will clean up the mess left behind but never see that happened.

We have been an Allen’s customer for more than 10 years. The fiberglass finish is fantastic — always looks like a brand new pool! The Allen’s team shows up on time (or early) and gets the work completed on time. I couldn’t be happier with their product, installation and post installation support.

Allen’s Pool finished my pool with fiberglass. They have been supportive about maintence and the pool looks great.

I go there for all my pool needs. Rather than just trying to sell you chemicals you don’t need, they advise you wisely. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Allen’s has the chemical smell of chlorine, but the lady working there was very nice, getting the door for me with my stroller, answering my questions about pool covers, and showing me a sample of the product. I’m sure we’ll end up buying from them soon.
