As a young singer in her daughter’s children’s choir, I was fortunate enough to receive valuable training from Barbara in my youth before my back problems began to appear. Now in my 20s, I’ve been to see Barbara frequently for back and hip trouble to great success. Her work is primarily teaching-based, and I encourage anyone interested in learning how to manage one’s own pain to read up on the theory behind the Alexander Technique before visiting her. Her website also has some valuable information, and information(both mental and physical) is really key in this. I have been able to put her teaching to work to alleviate not only much of my back pain, but also sore feet! I had no idea that a «side effect» of learning this technique would be reduced foot-soreness when standing or walking for long periods of time, but I swear, learning how to hold myself upright differently makes a serious full-body difference – in the best way. DONOT expect to walk away from each session without«homework.» YOU are responsible for the severity of improved feeling, because only you can practice what you have learned so as to re-habituate your body. This is not massage or chiropractic work, but after each lesson you will feel lighter, more grounded, and probably pretty bouncy and balanced. I encourage you to take a walk around the block(or two – it’s a great neighborhood) before getting in your car to leave. It could make a huge difference. Enjoy, and be well!
