I have been taking my children to this dentist since they were 2yrs old. They are both now 7 and 9 years old. We seem to Love this place. I do have to admit they are always busy and the waiting room just has a TV in it. Most dentist offices have video games but that’s what I like about this office. They basically get the kids in do what need to do and get them out. I have never had issue with the work the provide neither. they always call and remind you that your next visit is due and I love that about them! They young Asian dentist is amazing too.

Oh please please pleassseee save your gas and time and don’t even bother coming here!!! This place is absolutely horrible! I wish I read the reviews before I came in.
I brought my 3 year old brother In for his first ever visit at the dentists (which I’ve mentioned a dozen times to them that it was his first time so he’s scared). His appointment was at 11 and we came at 1045 to fill out paperwork and such. It wasn’t until almost 12 when we finally gotten called to come in the back. Ok. This place is FILTHY. There was dirty walls. The xray chair was covered in dust. Don’t even let me get started on what their examining chairs looked like. Ugh. Any who. We went back and they needed to take xrays of his teeth so I tried to get him on the chair but he wouldn’t sit so I sat on it and tried to get him to sit on my lap. The lady who was going to take the xrays gave me a look so I told her (again) that it was his first time so he was scared. She gave me a blank look then told me if he doesn’t want to she would have to STRAP him to this board. What in the helll. I was horrified. When she saw my reaction she just took me to the examining chair. I had to PIN my brother down so they can clean his teeth which was a grand total of like 3 seconds that she cleaned his teeth. They didn’t even try to trick him or bribe him with candy or stickers or even a new toothbrush like how I remembered my dentist used to to. The whole time they gave me dirty looks (cuz they’re assuming he’s my child since I look so young it happens all the time) and just stared at him. I would never ever take anyone to this place. They’re supposed to be pediatric dentists but they have no idea what they’re doing. I couldn’t run out the door fast enough! !!

Dr. Akhbari is the most rude unprofessional dentist I’ve ever had the experience with. My 7 year old daughter needed an extraction because her permanent tooth was already growing behind the baby one. I took her to get it extracted and Dr. Akhbari even after seeing x ray, he dismissed her without even asking anything. When I told him that she needed to get the tooth pulled, he got very angry and started yelling at me saying «I told you that last time and you said no» I told him that was then, I needed a 2^nd opinion and now I was asking him to please pull it out. He continued arguing with me in front of other patients and my 2 young kids and I asked him if he was refusing service and he said «yes, I am. Take care somewhere else!» Any professional Dr. would had talk to the patient and explain what is going on and ask again what I wanted to do. He assumed because I refused to have my daughter strapped down 6 months ago and go through that experience then. I had already prepared my daughter by letting her know what was going to happened and that I wasn’t going to let them strapped her down. He was holding a grudge because I refused him to pull her tooth the last time. He doesn’t care about the patients, he only sees them as a number with dollar signs!!!

First I’d like to say that if there was an option to select «zero stars» I would, because that’s what this dental office of malpractice is, period!!! They tell u lies just so they can do a bunch of work on your child’s teeth, which is totally not true only because they want a fat check from MediCal. This office of malpractice has no concern what so ever for u or ur loved one, all they car about it traumatizing ur kid and making there money. So before u settle with this ridiculous office, I encourage u to look else where.

I am so hurt today and still in shocked and in pain thinking about the horrible experience my 17 month baby just went through. This is scarred me for life… This is my boy first time visit to this dentist. I was referred by another dentist that this dentist do crowns and fillings. I do have insurance, and my friend’s dentist referred me to them. I have no clued about them, until after that fact…
Walked in, the place is not even kid’s friendly at all. They gave me a form to fill out, havent even finished yet, and was called in right away to take picture. The room is like a small dungeon. The asistant was roughed on my boy. After 1 picture, jumped him over to the next chair to clean his teeth. After 3 minute of cleaning. The doctor came over and told me he needs two crowns. Then the front desk rushed in to give me the prices, next thing my kid is on the chair strapped like he is on a chopping table.
Was so horrible seeing him in it, none of them was even gentle on him at all. Took the clamp, popped his mouth opened,. and the torture begins… There is no words I can express… Just said F me for taking him here.
He starred at me with his eyes bagging to be helped. screaming and exausted from crying so much. While the opened his mouth so wide and drilling the two from teeth.
After 20 mintues, they were done, the baby was so wet and scared to death.
Coming home, I noticed half of his lip was white like it was burnt from the clamped that they open his mouth with.
Just Said this is the worst of the worst dentist ever and my son has to go through. And I will never forgave myself not to research before I go there.
PERIOD!

Don’t take your kids here the dentist sucks looks dirty all the kids are crying. Its just a all around bad dentist.

I wish I could give no stars! We had a horror story experience here and I wish to warn any people who don’t have to, please don’t take your child here. They INSISTED I had to have my dauighters fillings covered with crowns and without letting me take time to call my husband, they said we have to get it done «NOW» «sign:here, here, here, etc.» gave my then 4 year old daughter a shot in the mouth which probably didnt have time to kick in, strapped her down, wouldnt let me in the room, she vomited 2x she was crying so hard (probably because the pain medicine wasnt even taking effect) and then they were done with 2 crowns in a matter of minutes. I even offered to pay any amount for sedation and they said «we don’t do that here».I feel horrible about this incident and wish I would have dragged her out of there when it was happenening. When I went back to get copies of the papers I signed, they refused to give them to me or any x-rays…even when asking for x-​rays to be sent to her new dentist, they resisted. I agree with the other reviewer-​they call nonstop until you tell them you won’t be coming back. I reported them to the medi-​cal and healthy families but seeing that they are one of the only pediatric dentists for medi-​cal, I’m sure they will stay busy. PLEASE PEOPLE, DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE. I applied for kaiser child health plan and got my kids on delta dental-​even if it’s not free its worth paying more for peace of mind.

My daughter is on medi-​cal and gets free dental through Dr. Akhbari. I shouldn’t complain because its free and its better then nothing. But they do make you wait in a small hot room w/​about 50 other low income families for at least an hour before you are seen. And then it takes them about 5 min for xrays and 5 min for cleaning. We are treated like cattle just herding through. No emotional connection what so ever. (And yes I work, 60 hrs a week. I’m not a sponge. Just low income.)

Terrible. Huge, barren waiting room crowded with poor people. I think this must be a Medical business. The receptionists were very nice, but the hygienists were terrible. They scolded my son for gagging on the x-​ray plate (who doesn’t? I’m adult and I do too). Then the hygienist cleaned him so roughly that he started to gag again, and I warned her but she wouldn’t stop, and he threw up in the chair. I wish he had thrown on up on HER. We had to wait an hour for our appointment. This place is a just a mill – they churn through the kids with no patience or care. After two visits I couldn’t take any more and we switched. I wish hadn’t gone even once.

PLEASE PEOPLE BE AWARE THAT IS THE WORST DENTIST ON EARTH!
I was referred to this dentist by some friend!
This is a meat market and all they want is your money, or to use your insurance!
As, you walk in you can tell the place is gross!
It’s dirty, smells, hot, and not catering to children! :(They don’t have any perks for kids like brand new toothbrushes or stuff, they don’t care it’s just businsess!!!
I should have trusted my gut feeling about this place!
The staff is trained to tell parents that your child needs a lot of dental work done, but to my knowledge i just took my child to another dentist, for a second opinion to find he has no dental problems so why would he need dental work now! I was scared that the dentist and the staff would do unnecessary work on kids!!!
Also, they are not kind to your children they just care about doing work on your kids! Also, if you do not reschedule to come in for the follow up treatment or something, the receptionist will harrass you for about a month or so, it has been happening to us, they call sometimes about three times a day !
It’s so unwelcoming and so unprofessional!!!
We now have a great dentist and it’s not this one!!!
*People please always ask to see your child’s x-​rays before any work gets done on your child! This is so scary!!!

Avoid at all costs. one of the most unethical places… while the dentists who were here are nice and kind, they are forced to operate under the iron hand of Dr Akbari… dentists are forced to perform unnecessary treatments on perfectly good teeth. to make more money for Dr Akbari.. State of California is bearing the brunt of all this as he caters to the Dentical crowd…

Yeah I admit it. At one time I was a welfare mom unable to even find a doctor that would accept medi-​cal.
I went to Dr. Akhbari because it was the ONLY place I could find that would see my daughter (she was 3 at the time). I didn’t really care for the office, but the receptionist was very nice. What? They don’t let you go in the back with your child? What? The door to the back is LOCKED so if you hear your child screaming you can’t help them? What? You don’t even meet the person who works on your baby (and no, it’s not Dr. Akhbari). Please, don’t get me started.
The immediatley strap kids down on a papoose board and go to town with them fighting and screaming. You can hear the kids screaming while in the waiting room. Other pediatric dentists do try to work with the kids (so I found out later) before strapping them down. They do their work and then boom, you’re out.
My daughter had a tooth abcess so they pulled the tooth out, which is normal practice. What they didn’t even mention to me was that my daughter should have been given a spacer, to keep that area open for her adult tooth. When her adult tooth came in, one of the teeth came in out of the side gum area because there was no room for it. Want to know how much their not mentioning it is costing me now? $ 6,000 in braces.
While I understand it was ‘free’ and the taxpayers dollars I don’t think that should equate to substandard health care. Within 2 years I had a great job at an internet startup and had my own insurance. I found a wonderful pediatric dentist. The first time I went there I was terrified because of my experience at Dr. Akhbari’s. I CRIED when they were cleaning my daughters teeth because I was so relieved and happy I’d found the new dentist. They were so gentle, took their time and worked with her to keep her calm and relaxed.
I believe (opinion) that Dr. Akhbari’s office preys on people with medi-​cal. With no other options, where else can they go? And no, after 8 years I’m not still bitter. Not at all. I’m too busy paying the monthly payment on her braces.
