We just enjoyed a fantastic performance of San Jose Wind Symphony’s ‘Out in Left Field”, a baseball themed program. It was a fun event the musicians wore baseball uniforms, the event included baseball trivia contest, it was a great way to celebrate America’s favorite past time with wonderful music. My only suggestion would be to offer this program in spring time to coincide with the start of the baseball season. The upcoming concerts look great, we will be sure to check them out.

Horns, Tuba’s, Saxophones, and drums, who knew you could be so distinguished? The arts. Such a necessity that is too often considered a luxury. As listed on their site, «Music makes the world go round.» The San Jose Wind Symphony is a 51 year old treasure that not too many people are privy too, well at least that’s true for me. For those San Jose faithful wanting to get a powerful musical experience without having to travel to SF, LA, or NYC, the SJWS is a great local option. You know me and my soap box about supporting the mom and pop shops, well here I go again. SUPPORTTHEARTS, PEOPLE! Music is truly a force of nature. When it comes to the SJWS, I can only sing it’s praises. It’s comprised of all volunteers that range from engineers, teachers, librarians, a retired fireman, an even a surgeon. All walks of life coming together making beautiful music together… all in my backyard. More often than not, they perform at the McAfee Center in Saratoga. Recently, I headed to this location to attend their«South of the Border» concert. I don’t have a very sophisticated ear, but I hear the acoustics in this venue are wonderful. Even knowing this, I still sit on the side closets to the trombones or saxaphone’s. Hey, I have my reason’s, and no it’s not that I have a crush on a musician. Well, don’t get me started on Manuel Ramos, Mr. «I unbutton my shirt for the ladies.» Their locations can very, but they are still local. The musical director is hysterical. Dressed in his tuxedo and glasses, this man never skips a beat. He cracks jokes, keeps the music coming, and the environment lively. I feel at ease, and NO I don’t ever feel like falling asleep. The music transports you, and you sorta forget you are in San Jose. Providing everything from an ode to Mother Russia or their annual Forth of July Celebration, the SJWS has it all. Sophisticated, charming, and with lots of class, this group of people really knows how to make my ears take notice. Oh yeah, and they are a non profit, so every donation and every CD purchase really does go the arts. Keep them coming SJWS, I’ll be there cheering you on and SCREAMING«Go music man Go!»
