I’ve been eating here every now and then since I moved to SLO. Every sandwich I’ve tried has been really good. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. My favorite is Ben’s Californian and the meatball sandwich is really good too.

Tasty as always! Ben Franklin’s has been in San Luis forever, it is a wonderful place to enjoy the quaint town and a great sandwich. Their ingredients are always fresh and they have a large variety of specialty sandwiches to choose from. The 26 has creamy, rich avocado that complements the crunchy saltiness of the bacon. The Californian is juicy and delicious with the perfect combination of spicy and savory flavors. Make sure the pair your sandwich with a bag of chips for a complete Ben Franklin’s experience.

Ordered #11 Turkey, Roast Beef, Pastrami & Jack Cheese on Rye. The Rye bread was the best thing on the sandwich. The sandwich was lacking flavor. I could only taste pickles. They are heavy on the lettuce. My son had Mac N Cheese, he said it was just right.

Ordered a turkey and salami sandwich, only got salami. Girlfriend payed extra for avocado and got none. I’m a cook so I can understand when wait staff puts an order in wrong, but I literally filled out a checklist of ingredients for them to add in order. Really no reason to see turkey and salami and just think«hey he probably just wants the dry, salty one.» Probably not coming back when Mr. Pickles and High Street can remember more than 5 ingredients.

The sandwiches here are delicious! I ordered food for a large group and would highly recommend using Ben Franklins for any of your catering needs. The lady on the phone was very patient with my order, made a last minute change and everyone in the store was very friendly. Highly recommend!

First time here. Just picked something off the menu and loved it. Cant speak for multiple sandwiches but the one I had was good and the service was quick and courteous.

Very good and filling sandwiches. They were not skimpy on the meats but I feel like they put too much lettuce. I ordered the 14 inch sandwich(definitely placed my order based on my stomach’s wants lol) and was not able to finish it. I ordered a sandwich that had pastrami, pepperoni, and linguica. The sandwich had a good amount of seasoning and condiments. My wife ordered a sandwich that also had pastrami; when she placed her order, they asked her if she wanted her sandwich hot or cold. I wished they would have asked me if I wanted my sandwich hot or cold. My sandwich was cold and I think it would have tasted better hot. Overall, I’d come back here again when I’m craving a sandwich.

Wow!!! Never been here before. Recommended by a co-worker. I got the pastrami sandwich with the works. Huge sandwich for $ 6.99. Taste was great!!! Bring your appetite before you come as this will fill ya up. I found a new place to eat at when I’m in SLO. Small minor criticism is parking is a challenge but I found a spot after circling the block. Super friendly staff that with confidence recommended the pastrami as it is one of his favorites.

This is my nearly daily hangout. Great sandwich at a reasonable price & I have never left hungry. The place is a piece of San Luis Obispo history, opened in the 1970’s, truly not much has changed.

Very good lunch stop. Easy and simple menu. 30 minute lunch break! Easy for two to split a large sandwich. Coming back soon.

Good: The staff was welcoming and friendly. The décor was kitschy enough to be fun. The menu was simple and straightforward. They brew real(and very tasty) iced tea. They have a full selection of meats, cheeses and toppings that you’d expect — and a few you won’t always find(I.e. Sprouts, avocado/cream cheese spread) prices are relatively good. Multiple bread selections that are«fresh»(not sure if purchased or in house). $ 5 t-shirt with purchase of a sandwich is unique(and smart — cheap advertising) The bad: They don’t offer the option to toast bread — and they really, desperately need that option. I wanted to like the place so much — I was already planning to make this a regular stop on trips North. The cold reality — these sandwiches were akin to chewing an old wet rag. Zero textual contrast. Just soft on soft on soft with a side of soft. The overall taste of each sandwich is salt/vinegar with no sweetness/spice there to balance the flavor. The ugly: the bread was so light it was almost a foam. I truly appreciate the effort put forth and you have the building blocks — this just didn’t choice together for me. Improvements needed: a crusty bread would go a long way here. If using the current bread, toast hard on a flat top. Packaged deli meat tastes like salt and nothing else — if you go that route, offer some sauce with a sweetness/spiciness to balance.

The sandwiches here are always well prepared and the bread is FRESH. Please don’t put one of these in Santa Maria, we’ll have no reason to come to San Luis! Great staff.

Looking for something quick before the trip home and this place turned out to be amazing! Definitely recommend trying the Californian! Potato Salad is worth a try as well!

So sandwiches are my favorite food. Not pizza, not burgers, or whatever… sandwiches. So I feel I know a thing or two about them. That being said, these are great. Good bread, nice selection of meats, the portions are decent and they use shredded lettuce which is awesome. The turn around time is pretty quick, though they can get quite busy. I like the inside and it’s a nice place to sit and eat and chat, though again, when it’s packed it can be a pain to maneuver around. The staff are always friendly and happy to chat. This is not my go to spot, but when someone suggests it I won’t say no.

Man! I’m eating my turkey and pepper jack cheese sandwich with the works as I write this review and let me tell you, talk about a dam good sandwhich! Very flavorful, the sourdough bread is fresh and soft, ingredients are fresh, very well portioned and really well priced. The ladies working the counter were also very friendly, the place is clean, my order was made fast, it is a very good place to grab a quick bite to eat. I will be def going back to try some other items while I’m here on vacation.

Came in for lunch. The counter person was very friendly and accommodating. The mister ordered the #1 ham, turkey and cheese $ 6.48 I ordered the #9 Roast Beef and Jack cheese $ 6.48 each sandwich is 7 inches. The shop has plenty of seating and is pretty clean. The parking lot is a little odd to get into but not bad. Our food was delivered very quickly! Blindingly fast! These sandwiches make subway look like amatures! Lots of fillings and locally sourced bread. It was very delicious! The only and I mean it’s a tiny thing– is it would have been nice if it where cut in half. I suppose next time I will know to ask. It’s really not a huge deal.

It’s a pretty basic sub sandwich, totally customizable which I love. They have sub rolls– wheat, sourdough, rye and white. The ingredients are fresh and you really can’t go wrong. It’s not a fancy panini place, but a great hearty sandwich perfect after a long hike.
