Awesome as always. Super tasty and always comes the way I order it. Thanks again La Palapa, best Mexican food in SLO county.

The food here is outstanding. Try the combo plate with the chicken enchiladas. The staff are so nice and the soda was served in a big mason jar. The restaurant has space for lots of people and is perfect for lunch during the week. They do breakfast and dinner also, you can’t go wrong. The menu is detailed and they have everything from pozole to seafood dishes. Que Bueno!

Not much positive to say here. We were recommended to come here as they do table-side guacamole preparation. We entered an empty restaurant. The guacamole we ordered was not prepared table-side, but came in a dish. No big deal. But, sadly my camarones chile de ajo was not very good. Shrimp were rubbery and over cooked. Her carnitas were just bland and not crispy. And the frijoles… What can I say? A Mexican staple, and a fair medium by which to judge any restaurant of this genre. They were terrible! Not sure how this place has been able to stay afloat so many years. To boot– we had fruit flies buzzing around the salsa. Oh, the salsa was pretty good. We will definitely be heading back to Cinco de Mayo! Where the frijoles are delicious, and, I have been informed, they prepare the chorizo in house. Mm mm!

The first time I came here happened to be lunchtime on Cinco de Mayo. It was totally dead, we ordered our food, and from there everything went downhill. Granted, they did get somewhat busy, but we had ordered long before this happened. The food took forever, the service was super slow, and the server only printed one receipt for me to sign. I needed a receipt for work, and he said he would need to go print it. Why would any place do this? I should automatically be given a copy of my credit card receipt! When I couldn’t wait any longer for the receipt, I finally just took a picture of the signed one with my phone. Amazingly, I was talked into coming here a 2nd time a few days later.(I was here for the week for work.) I had partially blamed the slow service on Cinco de Mayo, and typically I avoid Mexican restaurants on that day. The restaurant was slower, but again service was slow and bad. There were 6 of us, and we all got our food at different times. Half the party had to get Togo containers because the food was scalding hot and they couldn’t eat it in time. We had a different server, but again they only brought me one receipt so that I wouldn’t have a copy. This time I had requested my check the second I got my food, so I was able to wait the 10 minutes it took to get a copy of the receipt printed. Thinking back, I should have just taken the one receipt and let them deal with not having a signed copy.(And essentially no tip!) Although I couldn’t actually do this because I’m not a jerk. The food is only mediocre, definitely not worth putting up with the slow, bad service.

My husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch after some Christmas shopping Sunday. I told him I had gone here with some friends and it was good. We got to this restaurant at12:10pm. We got out drinks, chips and salsa. Then we waited and waited and waited. Finally at 1:20pm our lunch finally came. Only my husband’s drink was refilled not mine. He got what he ordered, I did not. I asked that my tostada have no meat. It did. Chicken. And where was the avocado the menu says my bean tostada was suppose to have? No I did not send it back to the kitchen because who knows when I would have gotten it back. Service… What service? As my husband say, we have been here 2 times. The first and the last! Will never recommend.

Went here for the first time recently and I enjoyed it. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious, the service was very nice and I didn’t really have to wait on anything. I thought the prices were a little excessive for what I got. About $ 15 for two smallish enchiladas with beans and rice and an iced tea.

A toss up between the sushi place and here. Mexican won out today. I wish I could say it was super amazing but it wasn’t. Chips are not homemade but the salsa had good flavor. I ordered chile verde burrito with beans and rice. The burrito was pretty good and the rice was decent but those beans though. Not very good at all. Undercooked and not creamy like I’m used to. More like Taco Bell. Ew. The service is a little slow but wow they are super nice!!! The drinks are served in huge mason jars. I love that! Over all not a bad experience. I’d be willing to try it again but maybe order something different.

I placed my order by phone, got there 15 min later like they told me to. Food wasn’t ready for another 10 min! On my 30 min lunch… When it came time to pay the man asked me to pay $ 10 and some change for a BEAN and CHEESE with sour cream and guaq!!! When I told the man that I had just been there and had paid only about $ 5 for a deep fried bean and cheese he got very confrontational asking me who charged me that.(Like I remember lol) He then announced to me that he was the manager my god… I’ve NEVER had a manager treat me with such disrespect. He even called me bad names in Spanish after I left. I will never go back. They are very over priced and the manager is a rude pig.

This is an American style Mexican food restaurant. The burritos were huge. I mean why? The chile relleno fell apart. Batter was not authentic. Yuck.

The carnitas on the nachos are just yummy. Very tender and juicy. I also love the chicken pozole. You don’t have to wait for a chilly day to order this gem. All in all this is a great restaurant with great servers. Plenty of parking as well.

Read the reviews so was a little skeptical but stopped in anyway! Food was amazing I had the fish tacos hubby had 2 taco combo neither one of us had a complaint about the food. The only complaint would be it is a little pricy and lunch menu a little deceiving said 2 fish tacos for $ 10.95 waiter asked if I wanted rice and beans I said yes but he failed to tell me it would be extra charge same on hubby’s taco combo. All in all good experience excellent food just slightly overpriced would definitely go back.

After eating here and reading some of the reviews, I agree with the two stars. The chips came from a bag. The salsa was sugary sweet. The tacos were pre-fried. I tried to order ala carte and was told that it was unavailable after 3pm. The hostess was friendly, but the waitress was cold and unfriendly throughout our stay. The food is overpriced. The decorations were nice. Won’t be back. Oh, and my husband wants to add that his Chile relleno plate should have come with tortillas.

My go-to spot in SLO whenever I’m craving some top quality Mexican food. All be it, their prices are borderline overpriced. but their food is well seasoned, traditionally prepared, and especially tasty. Service is quick and prompt at the restaurant. My favorites have been the carne asada tacos, frijoles, and nachos. Horchata is refreshing and tasty as well. Beats Chipotle by miles.

Wow. This place has *REALLY* fallen off. It definitely had a time where it was good, but tonight when I went there with a friend, the food was downright inedible. Not only were the portions ginormous, they were totally bland. The nachos were soggy and flavorless. The super burrito or special burrito or whatever that my friend ordered was gross. The shredded chicken was very dry and flavorless(and also accounted for like 80−90% of the burrito). Our server embarrassingly inattentive. We each had to get up and walk to the counter to get more drinks throughout our meal. I know we’re in a drought, but really? This was definitely the last time I will ever eat here. Such a waste of time, money, and calories.

I called in for a take-out lunch order of Posole. I have been craving Posole and was happy to see that they make it. All the menu said was Posole with chicken, so that’s all the info I went on. I picked it up, the waiter was VERY helpful and gave me chips and salsa to go with it. The Posole was HOT(temperature, yay!), but it’s Posole verde with chicken, rather than posole rojo. It was OK. There was a small container of salsa as well as 2 lime wedges and some red onion and cilantro. I’m used to Posole Rojo with pork, and I prefer that. It was just OK and a little expensive($ 12 for a large soup), but good phone service and service at the counter

Not good at all. I have 2 stars for the nice staff but my combo plate was bland. Salsa was sub standard. If this is the caliber of Mexican food in SLO, I am going to go in a deep depression.

Stopped by for lunch Sunday afternoon(Kumiko sushi was closed). There was plenty of seating, but many of the tables weren’t bused. Took our waitress a while to come by and take our drink order, same for food. The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa was spicy and pasty — not my cup of tea. Ordered 2 shrimp tacos, which were good. It was like shrimp scampi in a taco! Waitress wasn’t attentive at all. Didn’t refill drinks, didn’t come by to check on us. Maybe she was having a bad day? Not sure, but the food wasn’t good enough to make up for poor service.

Best Mexican in SLO. They have good burritos, good taco salads, good fajitas, great salsa, and good chips. I’ve had great experiences there(twice) and it’s my go-to place for Mexican. Price wise it’s not too bad either.
