Utro’s Cafe

Pretty bad service. 2 tables taken and rest empty yet the host tells u she’s not taking food orders and turns her back at you because its too busy?. Dirty dishes piled up on the counter. Would not recommend. Save urself time and just head elsewhere. Lazy staff.

We were out taking photos on a warm Sunday morning and early afternoon, and decided that we would stop and have lunch. I had passed Utro’s many times but never stopped in until last Sunday.
It was a nice day, so we sat outside and following some of Nicole’s suggestions, ordered tuna melts and fries. I also ordered a Stella, which was nice and cold. Service was prompt and the food came out quickly. Sandwiches were large and really filed with the tuna salad which was very tasty.
I have no doubt that we will be back soon.

Really neat place we just happen to run into … My husband ordered the swordfish burger and I got the turkey sandwich… The fries were fresh and tasty they burger was cooked to perfection and the sand which was made with whole cute turkey which was nice. The beer and wine are serves iced cold! The patio is dog friendly. The walls are covered in local memorabilia and the waitress was nice and friendly and gave tips on where else to eat and what to see and do in. The area. She was so nice!

Cute place, lots of atmosphere and oodles of parking. Had a grilled BLT and a small basket of fries and ice tea. Fries were perfect, had bits if skin, yummy. BLT was the worst… Buttered, but barely grilled so it was soggy. It should hav been a LT sandwich, maybe 2 pieces of bacon at most hard to tell as the biggest piece was prob less than an inch. In my mind this could be a great eatery… But will not be going back… Maybe just for a basket of fries…

I think this is a great place from pizza and salads hanging out with my fiancé and girlfriend on occasion we love it!!!

Just okay. Fries are soggy and grilled cheese dry. Service is mediocre not fast not friendly. Much better places to spend the day in San Pedro.

Great afternoon sitting in the shade (perfect weather) at Utro’s in San Pedro. Great waitstaff, especially Nicole, who sat me with a family at a large table because all the tables were taken. Nice visit with a lovely family that live in San Pedro too! Kind of busy because of Father’s day but Nicole suggested I come back on a Saturday with all the locals. I’m in!

I was here a few weeks ago meeting a Navy protégé of mine and we each had the Divine, which it was.
Last Saturday my bride and I came on picture perfect day to have lunch.
The Mrs. had the hot dog with onions and relish and had the «chili size» which was huge and delicious. We don’t care for the fries and passed them.
We enjoyed a nice day out washed with beer and wine served by Nicole, lovely young daughter of the owner.

Love coming here for beer and burgers. I wish they were open at night!
Today was the first time bringing my dog with me and I can’t wait to come back with him.

Been coming here for years never disappointed.
Great food. Beers are always cold. A great spot to relax great views.

The food was okay. Service could of been a lot better. Don’t go in a big group. Half our group ate while the other waited.

The ratings for this place is too high for what it is. The idea of the little café by the marina is nice but the food isn’t up to par. I like little dives and this one is one but their Burger for what they are known for is nothing fantastic. I’d rather go to In-​N-​out and the fries are horrendous. Best thing is the bottled beer. Does that tell you about this place?

I’ve lived in Pedro awhile and finally went to Utros after hearing how good all the food is. Plus this place has been here awhile and I the love the story of how it came to be. Someone’s dream coming true is pretty cool.
I was so in the mood for the fish and chips and was disappointed in the look and taste of it (see the Fish & Chips picture). It was not your typical flaky, light battered fish. It was hard on the outside and had a dark color to it. Almost tasted like it was frozen and then put into the fryer. Must’ve been a bad day because the fries were not that good as compared to other reviews. My opinion is that the fries needed to be cooked a little longer.
Like I was in the mood for fish and chips my friend was in the mood for a cheeseburger and unfortunately she was disappointed. She said that the meat had no taste at all and wasn’t juicy. And where’s the lettuce? A big chunk of the white part of the lettuce is not what you put on a burger.
We also ordered calamari which had a different look/​texture to it. Most restaurants give you the rings and tentacles but this calamari came in thick bite sized pieces. It was good and I’d order it again.
I say again because I believe in giving a restaurant another visit for all the other good reviews. Hopefully, I can update my review to four or five stars next time.

My only point of consternation is that they have limited hours. I work around that and go when I can. This place isn’t fancy but has its own feel. It is a local joint serving up basic fare but it’s good food.
I typically order the Devine Jr. It’s a hearty burger with great flavor. My go to and reason for going are their fresh cut fries. You’d think getting a great basket of fresh cut fries would be easy but it’s harder than you’d think. Well think again, this place has the best fries hands down. In fact I crave them from time to time. I’ve been told they use a very specific potato. That’s how you know, they know they’re stuff. I recommend giving it a try if you’re ever at The Port of LA.

Decided to bring a friend here after reminiscing about how much we enjoyed Utros in years past. But the optimistic attitude we had quickly disappeared when we walked in the door and we were given a rude attitude by the owners wife/​hostess/​uncheerful greeter. It was as if we were bothering her by just walking in. Try smiling at your customers, try and make them welcome for a starter. It took a long time to place, and then get our order. Divine burger was just ok, fries were greasy and were not cooked with fresh oil. Finally, when we left the old lady who sat us didn’t even bother to look up and thank us for dining with them. Don’t go here unless you are desperate or are a glutton for punishment.

I feel bad for the folks who recently were disappointed with the food and service at Utro’s. They definitely were robbed of what is normally an awesome experience.
Utro’s is one of our favorite lunch spots, and our family thinks their fries are simply the best around. The swordfish sandwich on sourdough is our go-​to meal, and is amazing. So much so that it prevents us from trying much more on the menu! I will say on the rare days they also offer halibut sandwiches, we make the switch and never regret it.
The view, the ambiance, the fact it’s family-​run — these are the other reasons we go back. What other restaurant in town welcomes dogs on the patio, brings them a bowl of fresh water as soon as they trot in, and has a special menu just for them? Cheryl and family (who we *only* know through our patronage and through no other means) have been warm and welcome, always recognizing us and asking about the kids, or reminiscing about when our 100-​pound dog was just a tiny puppy accompanying us. I hate when you go to the same business dozens of times and they don’t even realize you’re a regular or appreciate your repeated decision to support them.
I don’t doubt they have off days now and then (have personally never experienced one, but being local we tend to drop by at non-​peak hours and avoid the rushes). But don’t we all? I wish I could be perfect all the time and never let anyone down, too. But we’re human and things happen. I urge anyone reading this and deciding whether to give Utro’s a try, to consider the whole and not an anomaly. It would be a shame to miss the view, the food and the chit-​chat with the owners who are also serving you and cooking for you in favor of some impersonal chain.

Amazing spot. Just moved to los angeles from New York. This place has amazing seating outside with the breeze comming from the water. Very nice owners. Got the BLT with avocado it was so fresh and delicious. French fries were made to order you can tell they taste like your mom made them. Definitely comming here anytime I’m in San Pedro.

Simple menu and food, but what a cool place. Been there for all time and tons of old pics and «things» hanging from the walls.
Had a big nasty burger with avocado and loved it. Fries where soggy and not great but are hand cut on premises.
Great ladies working there and just a place with tons of character.

If you love mediocre food, a place that smells like feet, and being surrounded by people who decided to stop evolving somewhere around the late ‘60s, this place is for you!
It honestly felt like I was at some dive in the midwest or something.
