A great foods, freshly made, with fresh ingredients & properly was my first time here, but find it very unique.

I’ve seen this restaurant everyday that I’ve been living in San Rafael, and yet, simply because it is located a block away from my daily commute, I’ve never bothered to go here and eat. Much like a neighbor who you see often, but because of distance, you’d rather not shout out ‘Hello!’ to them and cause a scene. Too much trouble. A chance to eat here finally came, and I am pleasantly surprised by the experience. First of all, we came here on a quiet Friday night. My best meals have always been with good company in quiet restaurants where your conversation can be heard only by you, so this night at Signature Thai was already off to a good start. The interior is softly lit, with dark wood walls that feature carved art. It feels calm and relaxed– perfect for groups or solo diners. Our hostess was friendly and patient. Our orders came out hot, and completely wowed us for their richness of flavor. The Crab Won Tons were a perfect balance of crispy and creamy that made it hard to not order seconds for carry out. We chose Tom Yum with Tofu and a fantastic Duck entrée. The hostess even boxed up the leftovers herself for us to take home– great service. All in all, this is a new favorite neighborhood food destination. No trouble at all!

Signature Thai is my favorite Thai place, hands down. I’m not going to tell you everything is outstanding — the green curry was not to my liking, but the things that are great are fantastic! My go-to: pra-ram chicken and red curry chicken. Wonderful! The peanut sauce on the pra-ram is incredibly tasty, sweet and savory at the same time. The broccoli, spinach and cabbage is awesome. The red curry chicken is also wonderful. Good flavor. I love getting it with extra veggies. Mmmm mm.

It was very quick to run in and get take out and they were nice enough to serve me even though it was right near closing. My chicken was green and looked moldy though. I would probably be less upset by this if I didn’t pay so much for molding chicken.

Great food, no wait and the very friendly staff is always willing to customize. Try the chicken green curry with rice noodles, it’s savory and spicy.

I write reviews on Unilocal after an exceptional meal out. Though it happens only about once a year, dinner tonight at Signature Thai was it. Everything was great starting with the ginger tea. We then had the Summer Rolls, the Coconut Seafood Soup, the Penang Salmon and brown rice. The quality is what you can expect to find at top-rated(and expensive) Thai restaurants in Bangkok and New York. But this place is inexpensive.

Some of their appetizers are good, and their soup is delicious. One night, a friend and I ordered a dish that had salmon, and let’s just say the salmon had seen better days. I haven’t been back since. If a restaurant can comfortably try to feed me fish that has turned, then I make no plans to go back… kind of a bummer, since it’s the closest Thai place to my house. I’d rather walk a few more blocks for fresher fish, though!

It seemed like good food until my friend found a hair in the food. That ended dinner for us. 2 stars and not 1 because it was ok food… until the hair.

A hole in the wall Thai restaurant with decent service. Close walk from downtown San Rafael and they always have space — most of the time you’ll be the only one there. You can choose a regular table or take off your shoes and sit on cushions on the raised platform. Prices are pretty reasonable and there’s a good selection. I get the panag curry with chicken every time and it is soooo good! It’s a nice, quiet place to go have dinner with friends. Have a beer or try the Thai iced tea — yum!

My BF and I have eaten here often over the last year and absolutely LOVE the food and ambience! We have never been disappointed and our favs are the vegitarian green curry, beef with red curry, and the deep fried vegi rolls under apetizers. Our experience with the venue and staff has always been pleasant! More diners should eat at the venue and take in the whole experience offered with the unique seating. It seems most people order Take Out due to the restaurant being next to a soup kitchen but that has never detered us from going! Should also say the prices are very reasonable. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

It’s sad when good businesses suffer because of location. This is another one of those businesses. And lets be honest, its because of the Feeding Hall on B street. Too many junkies everywhere. However this restaurant is decent. In most of the restaurant you sit on the ground, which is pretty cool. I ordered the Shrimp curry in red curry sauce. The shrimp were a little on the small side but were still good. As were the mixed vegetables that came with the curry. And for first time, when I ordered Thai spicy I actually received my meal that way. Kudos to that. But honestly, who goes out for Thai food at 1pm when its 103 °F outside??? Can’t say it was one of my brightest ideas.

Despite the location, the food fresh and fabulous, the atmosphere is pleasant and the price is right. I highly reccomend it.

Awesome ambiance and food. Service is a little slow but I don’t mind that. If more people visit perhaps they can hire extra staff! I have tried a couple other Thai places in San Rafael and this place leaves them in its dust. Yummy PS: Fun for groups because you can sit on the ground which always somehow makes for a festive environment!

Sooo disappointing as this place used to be one of my all time faves! The ambiance is still nice since it’s fun to sit at the elevated tables with your shoes off & the staff was friendly, but food is my life & that’s where Signature fell short. Pad Thai is colorless as it always has been which I found fun & interesting since my top-of-the-list food is typically red when it is best. Well, it has lost its flavor entirely & the rice noodles were mush. The Green Papaya salad was A-OK(3 stars) as were the fried Spring Rolls(how can you ever go wrong with fried anything?), but I am a round eye who loves Pad Thai & I’ll be going to Thep Lela or Royal Thai or Citrus & Spice or… next time.

I wish I had read the recent reviews(re: change of ownership) before deciding to try a restaurant that friends have recommended in the past. The food was awful. I’m taking a beginner Thai cooking class and the people in my class can cook better Thai food than Signature Thai. What a shame. I went for lunch at about 11:45am and the place was empty and dark. I thought they were closed until someone called out from the kitchen. I had a lunch combo… here are my ratings(0 – 10, with ten being the best): Pad Thai — 3 — tasted like chow mein, and not very good chow mein, either. Spring Roll — 3 — strange, unknown fishy taste, like a bad dream. Chicken Satay — 7 — good peanut sauce, tasty flavor, cooked well. Rice — 6 — how can you mess up rice? It didn’t taste like high-quality rice, but it was cooked properly. Service — 8 — they were quick and helpful. Ambience — 6 — eating in the dark was a strange experience, but I hope it’s because they are helping prevent global warming, rather than because they are trying to scare off customers. I should have asked for my money back.

It was my first time there and the best thing about this experience was the exotic feel of getting to take my shoes off. It ends sharply there. In my party of 6 everyone got their meals several minutes apart. Mine was the last to arrive, more than 10 minutes after the person before me, everyone else was done. The waitress didn’t apologize or offer to comp my meal when I had to ask for it in a doggie bag so we could all go to our next location together. When I tried the leftovers for lunch the next day it was WAY too spicy,(I usually LOVE spicy food). I felt like maybe the waitress thought I was someone else and was just taking some revenge out on me. It was BAD.

I came here for dinner one night when Saigon Village was closed for Vietnamese new year. Signature Thai has an interesting seating area where you can take off your shoes and sit on floor tables. Be advised if you do this to wear thick socks as it is a bit cold this time of year. As far as novelties go, I can’t pass them up, nor could I pass up this chance to walk around in public in my socks. I tried their green curry, which for me is a litmus test of all Thai restaurants I go to. The taste and flavor was good, but the quantity was underwhelming. In fact the more I think about it, the angrier I get. For the price I paid I expect more!

Friends, the rumor is true. This is not our beloved Signature Thai any longer, but a terrible, terrible place run by people who are committed to breaking our hearts. I eschew Signature Thai, and will never return. I curse its name. ****************************************************************************** Previous Review, under Previous Ownership, for the sake of posterity: This is my favorite San Rafael Thai spot. I cannot emphasize enough that the food is SUPERGOOD, the hardworking staff are the definition of good service, and the food is super good. Super good. Silver noodle soup is really good. Much better than you think a brothy soup will be. I like the Signature Salad with beef… cool on a hot day. Save room for dessert. For out of town guests, I strongly urge you to get the Seven Favorite Ingredients appetizer.(Wash your hands first, especially if you just took off your shoes.) A neat little bonus is that they have that fancy sit-in-the-floor setup(remove your shoes), which makes everyone feel like they’re doing something special. It’s a great thing for first dates, out of town guests, and yourself when you feel entitled to a little bit of specialness. They also have regular tables for when you forgot to wear your nice socks. A note to first daters — don’t wear your to-the-knee goth-o-matic boots. You’ll look like a total champ unlacing them for half an hour so you can sit in the special seating, and then you’ll have to relace them when you’re finished. I hope you bring a book for your date, who will not be calling you again(but will be coming back to eat at Signature Thai, since the food is Super Good). The bathroom is clean and nice. Hooray! No changing tables. I love this place at lunch and dinner, with friends, coworkers, family, or alone. I recommend it without reservation.
