Island BBQ

Can’t say anything other than awful not good bbq. Nothing was good. Chicken was greasy, cornbread uncooked, pulled pork was dry, Mac and cheese not seasoned. We arrived with our 3 yr old and asked how long it would take to place an order. We were told. 5 – 10 minutes… a half hour later they were starting to pack our food. We ordered and were charged but when we got home we didn’t receive everything. But the worst part was we witnessed one of the cooks who touched a customers BBQ and licked his fingers after coughing into his hand. Gross.

This restaurant, like so many on the island, can be described as… adequate. It was fuel. It was average. Meh. But the price was not average. It’s like all the restaurants on the island conspired together to be mediocre. Because, hey, you’re stuck on an island. Where you gonna go?
The food is better in Captiva, though it tends to be pricier. It’s also much more scenic up there, especially around Christmas time.

Where do I start? We ordered pulled pork, brisket and ribs. Meats were dry and rubbery. Sauces were heavy ketchup tasting with little variety between them. I think we has three different ones and they all tasted the same to us. Sides were dismal as well — beans were black beans like you would find at a Mexican restaurant not like any baked beans you would typically find at a BBQ joint. Cornbread was very bland. Mac and cheese was ok. Overall very disappointing. They claim to be voted best BBQ on the island. I think they may be the only BBQ on the island. Service was very nice, pleasant.

I eat barbeque every where I go. All I had was a pulled pork sandwich with their smoky sauce. It was without a doubt, and no close second, the best I’ve ever had. If other menu items are half as good, you will be amazed with it. Unfortunately, mainly just a takeout place, but in the south, most of the best barbeque places are just take out. If you like barbeque, try it!

Food was great and not terribly expensive. Pulled pork was good. Macaroni and cheese was excellent. I wish they would have had inside seating but we had no problems with the outside seats.
