This bakery is sooo delicious. I am familiar with their other location and excited to see them expanding ! Same amazing baked good here. I tried the Blat for the first time and it’s soo good. Yummy coconut latte too. It’s great to see great local businesses in a beautiful historical building. Friendly staff!

Today we went to the street breakfast in Santa Ana, it was a great event. When I got my coffee they had cookies from the Blackmarket Bakery. They were so good, some kind of ginger cookie, I was very impressed. It was a 5 star cookie for sure!

Fantastic sandwich with literally everything on it. The Members Only is the best. The bread was perfect, it was built well, and I devoured the entire thing. I wish I could’ve tried the rest of the menu.

I come to this spot often, I work near it so I go for some icy cool caffeinated beverages. I started get their pastries and baked goods. I was so stoked on everything I got there. Sticky buns on point, cinnamon rolls on point, and my favorite is their chocolate chip croissant. I recently started getting their sandwiches and I’m stuck on them. Forgot which one this is called but it’s turkey, ham, bacon, avocado, lettuce, opinions and I get the artichoke pesto on it. Tastes like I made it myself for a picnic. A very stuffed sandwich for sure. The bread is super tasty as well, they bake their own(obviously it’s a bakery). Is recommend this spot to anyone that I know is local to this place. And to boot everyone there has been super nice to me and really cool. That shit goes a long way to me.

I work down the street from here and today was my first time here. I’ll definitely be coming here more often. I ordered the BLAT and it was on point. The croissant was buttery and flakey, cleared made that day. The sandwich had avocado, bacon, lettuce and tomato. I got the eggs on top as well, I think this definitely makes a huge difference flavor wise. All it needed was a bit of salt n pepper, but that’s easily fixed. The place also sells heavy and delicious loafs or brioche, wheat, sweet rolls and more. Also toffees, cakes, pies, crazy cool latte drinks and so much more.

Regarding breakfast, three visits in a row now prior to 10am they have been out of biscuits for the southern comfort! I casually mentioned that I’ve been trying to have that and this was the third fail and they were apologetic and offered up extra bacon in the farmhouse which I declined and later one of the women set down some free cookie coupons… Owner, just make more biscuits dang it Or take it off the regular menu and make it a special. Also, on this most recent trip this morning THEYFORGOTTOMAKEORFOOD. I can bang out a breakfast sandwich with egg, grilled ham, cheese, on griddled toast in under 7 minutes from a cold start at home but they do take longer here, so after sitting at the counter for 15 – 20 minutes my wife walked over and asked if it would be up soon which prompted puzzled looks amongst the staff then a hurried preparation. As it was delivered, another quick«sorry». It was not busy, one other couple at the counter and three seated at tables. No one noticed we hadn’t been fed. I also heard two other apologies to other customers for unknown reasons. All in all the food we have had, sticky buns, twists, cupcake, all the breakfast sandwiches including the southern on brioche were good, but it’s never been the best experience eating in and I think this was the last straw. Unfortunately with the other good breakfasts in the DTSA area that are less frustrating I don’t think we’ll be back.

Super cute place for breakfast, Santa Ana doesn’t look too shabby in the mornings! Had the southern comfort for breakfast, which is a fat biscuit Sammy with eggs, sausage patty and a decent gravy. This thing is huge, so sharing is recommended. Overall great addition to dtsa, will be back!

On my way to work, I saw the sign for Blackmarket opening, so I dropped by for a nice coffee and pastry. I’ve never been to Blackmarket in Costa Mesa, so I didn’t know what to expect. The pastrys all look great, so I started getting choosey. I decided on the almond lavender scone and it was perfect! The lemon drizzle was seriously everything. But then, I hated my dirty chai latte. It was terrible, but maybe it was just a bad cup. Anyways, I still return every week for the lovely lavender scone and sweet croissants ;)

LOVE this bakery! I couldn’t decide on one item so I got three and I’m glad I did bc they were all delicious. The lemon almond lavender scone is def my fav. Never had anything like it. The scone was packed with almonds, the lemon drizzle was perfectly tart and lavender pieces– who would’ve thought?! I also got the blueberry lemon croissant. Fresh blueberries and perfect lemon curd in a crispy yet soft croissant, couldn’t go wrong. The chocolate raspberry tart was divine. Quality chocolate and fresh raspberries, loved every bite. Topped it all off with a mocha latte, and just everything, it was perfect. Cannot wait to go back and try more delicious treats.

First off, this is not a review of their baked good, just the breakfast offerings. I have been to the CAMP location for baked goods, and they rock. As for breakfast, meh. I went in and had an egg sandwich on brioche with added avocado. The egg itself was fine, but the bread just was not a good fit. As a lunch sandwich option it might be better, but it just didn’t work for me. The charge for the avocado was pretty steep, but I don’t think I got much in the sandwich. I know the ups and extras are how they make a profit, but this seemed like too much $ for way too little green. The place itself is very comfortable and inviting, and it is certainly someplace I will check out again, just not for breakfast.

I came here for breakfast one morning and my experience was more enjoyable than I could have imagined. I feel like I’ve been to this location before but it was a clothing store a long time ago, but I think a coffee shop suits this place better. They food was delicious. I dove into a large coffee and an amazing egg sandwich with bacon. Yummy! The staff is also so sweet and friendly. I am for sure coming back here and bringing my friends!

I heard about this place from my coworker since she has been cake tasting to figure out what would be a good option for the wedding. Since she is not someone who is big on sweets or desserts I HADTOCHECKITOUT! Came here on a Saturday afternoon and the cake choices has already dwindled to the last 4 inch cake. Luckily I was able to snatch it, but then thought that’s unfortunate. I guess it’s a place you will need to go early morning to get your pick of cakes. So first impression 4 inch cake for $ 12? This better be some magical cake haha But I bought it happily just because I really wanted to try it. Simplistic in design, minimalistic. I appreciated it, nothing too extravagant or fancy. The best part, the cake is covered in buttercream! Note: they have a special sticker that instructs to leave cake at room temperature for an hour or two before enjoying. Since they used real butter. Interesting. So the first slice. Cutting into the cake you can tell it is dense. In the sense that it seems like a rich cake. First bite, it was so decadent. Heaven. Even though the cake was rich, it was not overly sweet. The chocolate that makes up this cake is not too overbearing either, I feel like I can eat the whole cake. Which would NOT be a good idea haha. The cake portion is moist and the cream filling, which seems to be a light chocolate cream gave the cake added body. So delicious. I am now very curious as to how the other cakes would taste. But it being $ 12, I think my splurge will come once in a while or during special occasions. =) I will definitely go back next time, probably in the morning so I can have some options!

I know people love Blackmarket Bakery, but I’m still trying to figure out why… I’ve been to the Costa Mesa location numerous times, and today was my first time visiting the new Santa Ana location. I’ve tried countless baked items from both locations and none have been outstanding or even«A-ok». The closest thing I’ve had to being average is their pecan sticky bun, and even that was a tad dry for me. I’ve had many of their cookies and they never taste as good as they look. The last one I had, the One Toff Cookie, was dry and just crumbled in my hand. Today I ordered the dark chocolate croissant and the Girl Scout bread pudding. The croissant was warmed nicely per request, but then became super greasy. This led me to believe it would have an unbelievable buttery taste, and it did not. It had no flavor whatsoever, and the dark chocolate was just average. It was one of those things where I kept eating it hoping it would taste good because it looked so good, but it never did, and I just put it down. The bread pudding was waaaayyy to moist. I like my bread pudding crispy on the edges and soft and dense in the middle. This was just a square of mush. SOO disappointing. I may come back to try their breakfast sandwiches because they look killer, but I’m done trying the baked items.

Delicious! I got hooked at the location in Costa Mesa, at the Camp, but now that they are closer to home even better! This location seemes to be bigger which means more space for more baked goods and handmade marshmallows. At the entrance of the location they arranged tables for a dine-in while working stations, I think is genius since it gives you the opportunity to come and eat, do some computer work, and stay for a fresh baked good before heading out. I had the tarts(lemon and crème) and the muffins to start off, while sitted one of the girls asked me how was I liking the pastries, I thought that was great customer service. After my muffin was almost done, I order a sandwich to go, they were fast and reminded me to come back with the Unilocal discount, which I most likely will! Best addition to this DTSA breakfast/brunch section!

I usually tend to visit the Blackmarket Bakery that’s located in Costa Mesa, but when I found out they opened a new location in Santa Ana, I had to go! Right off the bat this location is HUGE compared to the one in Costa Mesa. This location is actually two stories! The staff here is incredibly sweet and welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing. I usually just go in for the desert and sweets but this time I decided to try one of their sandwiches. I must say this is the only sandwich I ever eaten where the bread was more DELICIOUS than its contents. Definitely recommend going to either location, you will not be disappointed.

Came here after lunch at Fourth Street to get a little sweet treat. It’s a lovely location that is pleasant to be inside and the window was filled with all manner of pastries. It was hard to decide but that’s usually a good thing because if you have a good experience it gives you the motivation to come back and try more. My wife got a peanut butter cookie sandwich. I couldn’t decide between a blueberry muffin and a coconut/chocolate haystack and so I got both. They had run out of chocolate chip cookies which probably means they are excellent. The muffin was good but not quite the experience I thought I was in for. The haystack was delicious. The condensed milk really contributed to the incredible nuanced sweet taste. But it was far too sweet for one sitting despite it’s small size. Overall, mission accomplished in terms of being a pleasant place to come and sit and have a treat when you’re in the area — — but there’s a couple competing places within walking distance and I don’t know if I can necessarily say Blackmarket has overshadowed them.

i’ve been a fan of blackmarket bakery since they first opened doors on sky park circle in irvine but sad to report i’m not a fan of this location. –walked in and wasn’t greeted at all, even though like 3 people were working and there was no one waiting in line. –ordered the pop tart and was charged $ 3.75(rung up as berry poppins) even though it is only $ 2.5 at kean coffee. I asked the employee about the discrepancy in pricing and was told she doesn’t know, it’s just like that? –also ordered a scone, only to find it to be hard and rubbery. I never knew it’d be so hard to cut into a scone with a serrated knife. they probably overmixed the dough. if you are charging almost $ 4 for a scone, please make it right. –jalapeño popper croissant was nothing special but overpriced at $ 4 imo. –located in an area that’s in the process of being gentrified but still sort of sketchy-looking, rather far from the freeway and only has metered parking I definitely don’t think I will return to this location and will stick to getting my fix from kean coffee or the lab location.

I’m glad there’s finally a café with desserts in Santa Ana. I like to go there when I have a couple hours to kill. It gets busy during lunch time and seating is a little tight, so if you want a little more quiet time then go a little after lunch. My only gripe is that I ordered a chai latte and it was so sweet and didn’t taste like chai to me. Lots of milk and sweetener. I’ll have to stick with coffee. Hope they get some outlets soon. There’s only one I found near the bathroom.

This is my second visit, the sandwiches are very tasty but both times the signs for desserts were up and I ordered per the sign only to be informed they didn’t have it that day, very disappointed about that. They are right across the street from my apartment, I guess I will keep trying for the desserts.

Its finally opened!!! We have been waiting for this location to open since summer 2015!!! My BF and I love their Costa Mesa location and pretty much go every chance we get!!! But now we are ecstatic that a new location closer to us has opened! What we love about Blackmarket is their daily fresh baked breads, cookies and scones! Pretty much everything they bake is amazing! I purchased a loaf of their Almond 6 grain bread the other day and took it to a brunch party. It was the talk of the party!!! Everyone was raving about it! The bread is so soft and flavorful and so darn good! They have a great selection of baked breads such as sourdough, dutch crunch, wheat, rye, almond 6 grain, rosemary, cranberry nut, 7 grain. We were lucky to be invited to their free bites and beer tasting this past weekend to sample some new items on their menu. They are now serving craft beers and ciders along with some savory bites. We got to sample some delicious mac n cheese, meatballs, cakes, cookies, sausage, cranberry slaw, caramel popcorn. Everything was super yummy! I especially loved their mac n cheese and their meatballs. They had two types of stouts a milk stout and their peanut butter stout which was out of this world! I couldn’t get enough it. They were so kind to wine and dine us with their samples all night, it was amazing. Now we have a place to go to whenever we want a late delicious dessert and a great beer to wash it down with! The idea is perfect!

This place is amazing. I remember the original Irvine location and visiting when I was just in high school. I am so glad that they’re back and that I don’t have to drive all the way down to Costa Mesa. I really missed their delicious tarts especially stab in the dark. I came to their new location on opening day and found that they had almost sold out of tarts. I tried the new Cream Brulé tart and was in heaven. I really love this location and will be coming back soon. Though I sort of miss the quirky decorations from the original Irvine location, what matters most is that their baked goods are just as lovely as I remember them.

We are already fans of this bakery, but when they opened another location in Santa Ana, we had to come out and see. We love the ambiance of the place and the location they are in. The food is still delicious as like with the other location in Costa Mesa. The breakfast is always delicious, but the lunch was amazing. The Hot Chocolate with the marshmallows were to die for. I hate marshmallows but this place, changed my mind.

Well, baking genius Rachel Klemek has expanded her OC mini-baking empire to DTSA, to the great fortune of Santa Ana. In any business, there are people who lag, people who just get by and people who excel. Professionally trained Klemek is in the last group. Everything she does is just a cut(or two) above. All of the baked goods are baked by her team to her strict standards. Black Market is one of the top bakeries in SoCal. Savories. The savories are really good. They combine A+ home baked breads with the best stuff on earth(pork eggs, cheese, etc.). Get a brioche, egg cheese for breakfast. The rest of the day can suck and you’re still ahead of the game. The desserts are off the charts. Shortbread. Cookies. Pastries. I could go on and on. The basque tart is not to be missed. Grab one and have a coffee. It’s a great place to sit for a while(free Wifi). The atmosphere is a combination of California casual and East Village exposed brick. You can feel like a hipster in Williamsburg and surf the web(did I mention the free wifi?) with A+ coffee and pastry A great selection of artisenal chocolate bars and other goodies. Congrats to DTSA.

We’ve been waiting patiently and so happy to finally have Blackmarket open in Santa Ana. Our sandwiches(Spicy Guy and Handsome Italian) were tasty and filling. Turns out they have outlets and wifi so we decided to stay a bit longer… Maybe it was just an excuse to get a delicious crème brûlée tart and coffee, but either way we’re glad we did. Staff was friendly, music was chill, and our beer and ciders(couldn’t help it!) were a perfect way to end the afternoon.

Stopped by over the weekend to see the new location and was pleased to see the space already swarming with happy customers. Our group ordered two Phoenix sandwiches and a Member’s Only. The sandwiches came out quickly and they were delicious! All the ingredients were fresh and the bread was incredible. Other customers must have thought we were in a race with how quickly we all finished the food. We also tried a few of the beers and ciders that they have on tap which made for a very enjoyable lunch. We will definitely be back!

Ordered the«members only» during my lunch hour. Friend that ordered at the same time got their food, and I waited another 20 minutes to get mine, as people who were after me got their food. When I inquired I was very shortly told«there is no favoritism in the order it comes out,» and that I would have to wait 10 more minutes. Food: Took 30 minutes to get it. The«members only» was good but not great. Bread soggy, but bacon crispy. Overall… Wouldn’t go out of my way to go again.

So happy they’re finally here!!! They’re still putting the finishing touches on the fixtures this morning, but the staff already has it down! Ordered an eggwich, the one with all the meats, a hazelnut chocolate twist, coffee and a sparkling water. The eggwich is delicious, the in house naked brioche crumbling beautifully, and the aged cheddar providing the perfect counterpoint to the slightly sweet bread. The chocolate hazelnut twist is exactly as delicious as you’d imagine something called a chocolate hazelnut twist would be! They have beer on tap, and delicious grill cheese! Set to open this Saturday, Jan 9th after much anticipation. First 50 people in line will get a Eggywich which is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had this year! Just like their location at the Camp in Costa Mesa, the baked goods by Chef Rachel are out of this world! Oh, and they have a killer Mac N Cheese for the kids as well!(Got to try it at a media preview) They have a coffee bar and also craft beer on tap. Make sure you try the Nutella Latte! Of course, there are plenty of pre-packaged goods for sale if you are in a rush. I love the shortbread cookies! BlackMarket is located across from C4Deli and parking can be found on the streets or the local garage by Chapter one with additional fee. There are a lots of food places in the Arts District in Santa Ana, this is a welcoming addition for those sugarholics in us!
